Gigliola lungamente in tensione.
This is a song that "Evergreen" means. It´s crazy (or wunderful?), but it needs YT to listen to this song again after so many, many years. Very good job, thank´s for posting and ...keep it save. Dave"
I checked all winners of all the years of eurovision and this is the best, this song and Cinquetti performance will be heard for many years frmo now in fact I hear a new version by other artists recently.
There are not many Eurovision songs or winners that I can't remember but this one I will remember for all time as it is my fav' I was 21 at the time and I fell in love with her, In them days every one was glued to the TV as soon as I heard it I knew that she was a winner and of course so did everybody else, If I remember right the English translation of this title was This Is My Prayer another singer also did this song in English and that was it's English title, is the b-side Go?
Other than Abba, this has to be the only other winner from outside UK which has stood the test of time and people remember. I was 10 at the time and still remember it.3 years later, my first boyfriend just loved her - all I can remember about him!
This song is so magical - hypnotizing. I feel captivated. I don't understand Italian, I'm Norwegian - and I find this soooo beautiful! One of my favorite entries in Eurovision ever. <3
I think it's scandallous that the original recording of this Contest is not available. Does anyone know if there has actually been ANY sort of concerted effort by ALL the broadcasters who transmitted the Contest at the time, to look through their archives? With 16 songs in the Contest - therefore at least 16 broadcasters - at least ONE of them should have kept a copy of footage they transmitted.
Or is it just that DR (Denmark) didn't record it and no-one has looked further?
@ilovecollecting Not heard this story at all, he or she should admit to having a copy. All fans of the Eurovision are desperate to see this, especially me, apart from the 1956 eurovision, this is the only one I have not seen.
The very young, gorgeous, talented ,innocent ,radiant Gigliola Cinquetti with her most beautiful song and voice ,that made her beautiful country so proud. This is a remarkable video.Thank you for sharing this beauty.
the EUROVISION SONG COMPETITION way back then was really awesome! the judges surely had a hard time judging! i can't say the same way now. this song in 1964 was really DESERVING of the grand prize! i've read somewhere that the performer was just 14 years old when she sang this.
Very happy to see this, first memory of Eurovison, everything seemed more innocent then, was on11 at the time, but thought see had a unique voice. Had heard it for over 20years until I found it here, exellent restoration, thank you
I wonder if anyone knows if this reprise footage actually used in the television broadcast? There's something slightly amateurish about it and the angle's a little odd. Perhaps that was just the style back in those days!
@gottagothatsme My impression is that the footage is originally from a film camera(s) which was subsequently transferred to video. Sadly, all the TV broadcast video tapes of the entire 1964 contest are thought to have been lost or destroyed.
@1947dave So you don't believe that this piece of material was used at all in the broadcast? If so, I wonder what purpose it was filmed for (a news programme, perhaps)?
It's hard to believe that absolutely nothing exists of this contest. I can understand there being so little of the first contest but this was 8 years later! Every so often there's always reports of a load of lost footage being found. I bet ESC 1964 is hiding somewhere! Hopefully whoever finds it will donate it to the EBU.
@1947dave Actually, I've just noticed that to the right of the conductor at the start you can actually see a television screen showing what would have been shown the viewers at home. So I suppose there is some of the original footage remaining, it just happens to be about 3 seconds long and 2 inches big!
@gottagothatsme You are right, it is the reprise performance footage. You can see that people are leaving the stage as Gigiola starts to sing. Parts of the reprise performance is the only thing that exists. The word is that the rest of the contest footage was lost in a fire at DR (Danmarks Radio) in the seventies.
I was 10 years old at that time. I thougt most of the TV broadcast came from the frontal view as I only remember the face of the singer and the glittering background.
Thank you so much for such history detail and the lyrics of this great singer and song . So well done for putting this together in this way. Not an easy task !!. Thank you again.
A Eurovision that has still to be beaten for its beauty. How ironic its the only one of which no full footage exists. Couldn't they have taped over 1984's winner instead?
Yes indeed, you did a great job getting this together............. such a pity the original recording / film was lost at the Contest................... well done again............ she is superb !!
¡Bravooooooo Gigliola! Esta bellísima canción siempre está mezclada con mis recuerdos de la infancia. Era el año 1964 y el mundo era mejor. I heard this song on the radio in the early 1960s in Hong Kong and it was very popular on the chart then. I still remember the funny pronunciation of the name of the song and her name though I had never found out the spellings.
It is quite amazing to hear this lovely song again after almost half of a century. Thank you very much for bringing back my childhood memory.
This is breathtaking footage. If by chance somehow one day you can piece it all together in my opinion it should be priceless and should have the most hits you tube has ever known.
a voz é boa a artista é linda e a canção é daquelas raras que se fazem com bom gosto sobretudo na musica e desmo mesmo ano da nossa oração cantada por Antonio Calvario ESTAVAMOS EM 1964
How did I live 45 years without ever hearing this beautiful song? Back in 1964, the year I was born--when it wasn't such a bad thing to be an American--one thing we missed out on in the USA was this. I've listened to it every day since I discovered it last week. Thanks for doing a wonderful job of piecing together this performance with what has survived.
Over this weekend, I did some work on the extra bits that I have, there are still several problems to solve to make it work and look OK with the existing footage, but I am definitely making progress.
I'm still working on it, it's tricky due to differing brightness contrast and sharpness levels... and not all the gaps are filled. I need a few quiet days and nights to finish it!
