  • He's essentially just said that the old testaments are unreliable, due to the wrong interpretations of those who wrote them. If that's the case, then why don't religions abandon the scriptures and just ask God how they should behave, rather than picking and choosing their moral values from an ancient book cobbled together from accounts written by unknown authors, which aren't even cohesive?

Or better still, take your moral guidance from state law.

  • Yes the Abrahamic religions can co exist as long as they remember that God loves all who do good and forbid evil no matter what they believe! God religious fascism is the worst!

  • good luck, judaism got hijacked by christianity and then muslims hijacked christianity. It's all about being god's favorite religious group, when really I don't think god would really care unless he enjoys watching people fight over his affection. In that case is not worth the time of day to worship.

  • this man is very rational

  • Has any one read Buddhist Warfare by Michael Jerryson or Zen at War by Brian Victoria? Zen at War got a couple of good reviews from a couple of Buddhist authors also.

  • Me:Dear Buddha, are you an atheist?

Buddha: There is an Unborn, Uncreated, Unformed.

    Me:What is this world?

Buddha: The world of the born, the originated, the created, the formed.

Note, Buddha quotes taken from The Eightfold Path

  • I say the three abrahamic religions should band together, share the countries around the holy land and itself, and kick some atheist ass.

  • the truly spiritual members of the 3 Abrahamic faiths are the closest and most peaceful people one can ever meet. As an atheist they are the most respected parts of religion that are good and none of these types of people believe in killing or fighting.

the Abrahamic faiths have since their beginning as the political war aspect of them, have been trying to kill the other 2 off and will until the nonviolent types get respect from most people. As an atheist, humans can choose to get along...

  • if we allow the truly good people of faith to have the spotlight and got rid of all of these scientific Nazi Atheists or beef with the church Atheists who get the spotlight since they seem to be just trying to be #4 in that bitchfest then the world can change.

History proves a point with these 3 faiths and since these fake Atheists are backing the Low Man Jews as well, it solves the greater problem.

we could start by just getting along... it is a choice humans can make and is easy... move on!

  • @MrSpieldose

I love how you get angry because you don't actually have an argument here. Nazi Atheists?

What does history prove with these 3 religions? That they wouldn't be recognizable to present day adherents if it wasn't for the influence of Zoroastrianism on the Pharisees during their stay in Babylon? Here's a fact for you: Buddhism is the only major religion to spread around the world without violence. Guess why...it's not a religion! It's atheistic morality!

  • This video is pathetic.

  • Why? Qualify your statements plz. kthx.

  • First of all, I have no respect for Wright nor the Templeton Foundation. One has a horrible understanding of evolution yet writes books about it and the other pretends to be some sort of catalyst for finding out the universe's big question but is just interested in trying to make science more amiable towards religion.

Secondly, the basic premise of his book is horribly, horribly flawed.

Thirdly, religions of the books do have an eternal unchanging character. It is in the book.

    I can go on.

  • Science is what it is, amiable towards religion or not, I think Wright has more of an issue with new atheists attitude towards religion.

I think he deserves more respect for challenging the new atheists, which is basicly heresy if you are a sceptic today. I think they have had a too easy time just having to debunk ridiculous fundie claims.

  • I think that someone deserves respect when they challenge the status quo only when they do so intelligently.

For instance, I could say that cheese gets mold on it because the gnome that lives in my shoe comes out at night and puts it there.

    You see, heresy.

Also, I disagree with Wright's issue about the "new atheist"'s attitude towards religion. That probably is part of why I dislike him.

  • Why is this even a question? I wont even bother listing the numerous wars that have taken place in history, or the dozens of others happening right now, solely because of the inability of these religions to coexist. I'll look instead, at a simple piece of real estate; Israel. Any secular humanist with half a brain knows the answer when two different groups want the same land - share it, two separate states. But because of religion, that will never happen.

  • This question is important, can we co-exist, find common ground and move forward together or must we turn this into a zero-sum game where we pit atheists vs christians vs islamists etc., a game where it seems to me that we will all loose (because of the increasing destructive technology etc.).

  • Can the Abrahamic religions co-exist?

Some people must keep their heads in the confines of ivory towers...the evidence that they can't is spread across the whole planet.

Just today: Muslims in Pakistan killed Christians over a cleric propagated rumour that a Christian had "desecrated" the Quran. Yep, that's all it takes-a rumour and Muzzies will go on a killing spree.

I wonder if a bunch of atheists would go on a killing spree if someone really took copies of TGD and burned 'em?
