R-L-R-R-L-KKR-L-R-R-L-KKR-L-R-R-L-KK... and then after that I kind of play by feel.
So, you play the hands as 16th notes, and the two kick drum notes as 32nd notes.
The first R-L-R-R-L-KK is played (S for snare, H for hi-hat) S-S-S-S-H-KK, then (T for floor tom) T-S-S-S-H-KK, then for the final part back to S-S-S-S-H-KK. Hope that makes sense.
@Mart1nwalker Nope, was using my Zoom Q3 - although it features two condenser's set up in an X/Y pattern, so kind of like overheads without actually being 'overhead' haha! I'm putting together a small recording setup at the moment... it will have two overhead mics, along with a kick and snare mic.
How did you get that fill down? That's pretty sick! I already know the fill as well, but apparently I misread the transcription by Terry Branam. You are a major help in my drumming. (Now I can finally record the song at some point as a cover.) Thank you for this video. Oh yeah, the rest was good too. I personally don't do as much "open hi hat" during the 5/8 ride pattern only because I'm just following the exact song drumming, but this way, you spawn new ideas of how to play certain patterns.
@13KHiHats I practiced the sticking of the fill very slowly until I felt comfortable with it, then tried fitting it into the song. Once you get it into your 'muscle memory' it doesn't even take that much effort to play.
Most of the time when I'm playing these covers I normally just try and get the general feel of the beats and patterns, so often you find I won't play the parts exactly as they are in the songs.

As for the bells, they were cut from old cracked ZBT crashes, I think one 14" and one 16".

Let me know if it needs more explanation. :)

In Google, type in "fear of a blank planet fill" and then go on the first link (askgavin harrison).
There the fill is transcripted.

I would marry you, if you could explain the sticking of said "Gavin fill"...
And what are these bells, that you use? They sound really smooth and harmonic. Great :)

Where do you get your partitions ?
qiqiqo4 1 year ago
@qiqiqo4 Not sure what you mean by partitions? If you are talking about how I overlaid the video of my feet, I used Sony Vegas.
