If you were an old fart like me, you'd be calling them all DC-9's, too. The whole "MD" thing was to make the people at McDonnel feel good and as a marketing ploy so people would think it was a new design. (If a 737-900 and a 737-100 are both 737's, a DC-9-10 and a MD-90 are both DC-9's.) In terms of Boeing, I think they could have made a lot of money on it had they not feared it would detract from the sales of smaller 737-ng's.
I'm sick and tired of people calling this a "717". I can't stand Delta calling their airplanes "MD-88's" and "MD-90's". Hogwash!!! These are DC-9's, probably the best airplane ever designed. From the original DC-9-10 to the MD-90 and the B-717, they are ALL DC-9's! And I love every one! Designed in 1964 and updated and stretched----beautiful to look at, efficient (esp the 717), IT IS A PITY THAT Boeing discontinued production. I will NEVER forgive Boeing for that!
@TheCannonofMohammed The MD-88, MD-87, MD-90 and MD-95, or 717, are NOT DC-9s. The rest of the MD-80 fleet is a DC-9-80. Hard for Boeing to continue production when they are losing money on the type.
@TheCannonofMohammed u r a dumbass! dc-9s r COMPLETELY different from the md-80s. Thats like saying an a320 is the same as an a330! All the planes r different. They have different engines and cabins. The 717 has a different engine, cabin and a cockpit!
Great vid! What seat is this.
