@222Lightning. [grin] i like all of those things, but your point is well-taken. i was just thinking how much of a glorious addition to life is The Verve. astounding grouping of musicians. have a good evening.
3:53 when the drums pick up............then the vocals kick in at 4:35 bad ass. I remember doing my dishes listening to this 2008 and just stopping in amazement at that part. Some people need sex and money............I just need my night skys and the verve !
My favourite song off the album after 'Love is Noise'. Very different and out of this world in a way. The Verve are too underrated for my liking. Not just a one-hit wonder like most think who have only heard 'Bittersweet Symphony'.
the verve are amazing! the music is so different and original and so good! love this band!! Do Oxegen again!!! love this song and appalachian springs and rather be and judas... love em all! what an album! it competes wit Urban Hymns! just falling short tho... in my opinion!
This is always fighting "Appalachian Springs" for my favorite tune off "Forth." I can't pick.
This song morphs quite a bit; it could've been like three equally amazing songs. It's an abstract tune that slows down with this cool guitar that eventually morphs into a groove by the half of the song, and you're thinking "Woah, what just happened there? I don't know but I like it."
"Fame, A Celebrity Culture, Flashlight, Flashlight. Fame, Bullet-proof bathroom."
"Dying on the inside...dying on the inside"
I love this song. I can't stop listening to the last 4 minutes. To be honest it had to grow on me, but now it's my favourite song on the album. Although, embarrassingly, I can't make out some of the lyrics. But what a great song. Genius album. Richard Ashcroft's voice takes me somewhere I've never been.
fucking brilliant song !! last 3 minutes , please can any one tell me what he says towards the end... after he says dig yourself out of a hole youre stuck , after that if any 1 can try to comprehend what he says , the ending is just amazing!!
i wouldnt mind the verve making their next album just built entirely from jam sessions. i like richards songs and i think he is actually one of the top songwriters today but i think the verve's true greatness is in their harder and groovier side. Too bad chic dub was not included in the album by the way.
yeah i agree with you. rather be, see houses, valium skies (really love nick's guitars in them i might add) are nice but anyone can tell that those are richards songs after a couple of listens. i just wish they were given more time to make more songs like this so it could be on forth.
this is my favorite song on the new album. i know there are fans of the verve who like more of the urban hymn textured songs but i think the verve are more naturally less of urban hymn and more i guess forth textured songs where they have songs built around the sound of pete, nick and si. this is evident in columbo and it really brings to life the genius of the verve.
Fantastic track, especially the last 3 mins or so. I totally love this album, thi band made a great comeback, and i also think they evolved somewhat to other styles of music, and did great if you ask me.
Fantastic track, the first half sounds like can. This track came from the same jam that love is noise came from, you can hear it roughly halfway into the track.
This is my most favourite song an their new album. To me, it sounds so fresh and nothing like they have done before. And that's what makes tis song so wonderful . And I love Richard's voice very uch on it. Sounds sexi.
mmm this song born in the same reahersal of love is noise, the guitar is simmilar, so we can think this is a "continuation" of love is noise, but not, this is another song. similar guitar but is other song
This is fucking brilliant, great, the bass, the singing, the guitar, the mood, the lenght....I seriously don't get why this song is getting so bad reviews, people are saying that is lasts too long and goes nowhere, what the fuck, I don't get it, it's simply a fantastic work from a fantastici and genius banda, bigger than Radiohead, and it says enough!!

I totally agree with u!(though I appreciate Radiohead too and don't find appropriate even to compare the bands just to declare which the best is...)
anyway, I can't stop listenig to this absolutely fantastic song since I've heard it for the 1st time!I'm definitely in love with it!!
I think that so many people don't like songs like this one 'cause they don't sound commercial.quite as many masterpieces by the Mars Volta or Tool...the beauty of such songs is in every sound they're made of <3

their new album isn't as good as some of their old stuff, bittersweet symphony and drugs don't work are classics, their new songs are different to them, they should stick to writing songs of a similar vibe
you have to be a music genius to write such an epic song! brilliant band...

It's funny, but this is one of the tracks that came in for the most stick in the magazine reviews for the album...
...and yet it's my favourite tune on there.
You're right about it being a more "Verve" song than most of Urban Hymns, in that it's a truly band effort, spawning from a jam session.
UH started off as an Ashcroft solo album, with McCabe being the last to join up for the sessions in early 97.
Rather Be, I See Houses, Valium Skies... they're nice, but THIS is music!
