Lyrics are posted below. Sorry, the youtube system wouldn't accept the HTML code which would have allowed it to format in verse form. Someone mentioned downloading. The Firefox browser has a "plug-in" called Download Helper which allows you to download youtube videos as *.FLV files. You can then use another program like MPEG streamclip to convert to mp4. (You can thank me at my "Jamaican in China" blog. Search on google.)
She said that she was sorry things weren't going right and that my neighbor's dog was disturbing me at night that I didn't get the raise of pay I've been wanting from the other day but if there was a possibility she'd gladly swap her place with me "Can you...swim on any beach you want to?" she asked again. "Can you...stay out late at night, when you want to? Are there no signs in town, saying "We want no Blacks around"? You must be living next to paradise!"
So obsessed was I with the trivial things I wanted, my very liberty I've taken for granted But when I heard from my friend out yonder I had to stop and wonder her words came back to haunt me, when she asked... "Can you...swim on any beach you want to? Can you...stay out late at night, when you want to? Are there no signs around 'We want no Blacks in town'? You must be living in paradise!"
Remember this from back in the day but couldn't remember the name, been searchin for this for ages, whicked piece from the golden duo. Personally I'd say the best they ever did, lyrics, voice the lot. First heard it on a stone love tape if i remember right. Big up Mikige, you done it again.
Man I haven't been able to find this cut anywhere! Not even YouTube! At least unttil now. Classic! Now if I could figure out to record from YouTube or at least download, I'd be cool.
Yea, the lyrics may not seem "as relevant" to some but a person with an ear can plainly hear that the song wasn't only about Apartheid. The story was about African blight, a correspondence between two people from two different countries. Let's not forget that the continent as a whole is still being exploited and excluded today. The 2007 World Book Encyclopedia bills Africa to be the word's leader in food exportation. Yet millions there have died from starvation! Yea, very STILL RELEVANT.
This song is not so relevant these days because of the fall of Aparthied, but when it came out in the early nineties the world had not seen a more appropriate song to speak of the issues........................wonderful song
love the slow mellow ones people thought gregs sounded awfull when he started on his dwn hill spiral i think he sounded better lol specially when he made cool dwn the pace xx
Was one of my favorite tunes from the first time I heard it many years ago. Not many people still play it but it gets regular rotation in the selection of must play tunes.
