@adamc260 ... Mike got it wrong, or was a slip... minimum horsepower set up from the Chrysler V8 in a Jensen Interceptor was 300bhp, eventually rising to 390bhp, most common tune was around 330bhp, which was comparable to the Maserati and Aston V8s of the day.
mike should know by now that if you want to try to get a good deal on a car,you shouldnt be putting the car on a pedestool like the owner has the best car on the planet, you need to make it seem like it needs alot done to it and that for the right price it might be worth it.one of the few things that bothers me about the show

Notice Mike's botox here- his face has less lines than a new born baby's, and his brows are higher than a kite on a windy day. Still, I suppose he has HD to worry about.
Whats with everyone on this show starting motors and revving them right away??? Then turning off. Even Edd does it sometimes and he's a mastermind mechanic.
@twofiftysx because due to the magic of TV they can run them to warm before the segment, and THEN show them turning on and rev them (so they don't have to transition to an already running engine, which would feel strange, or film a whole engine warm up period).
@Fisher387 They can make engines alright, the low output is due to oil crisis and climate hysteria. The original version of this engine is something like 380 hp, but it can easily be tuned to way more. And unlike old British engines, it lasts.
@bmgm3 Yeah unfortunately the old 440 ended up getting bogged down with smog because the EPA started cracking down. Another thing you may notice is the redline is pretty low too, the old American V8s from the factory weren't very good. With some work they could be MUCH better.
@bpowersman5000 I feel cheated. I just always thought that 7.2L would mean and easy 300bhp, if not easily 400bhp +. Even a early 3.5L Rover V8 made 150bhp, hell, even a 998 cc Mini engine made nearly 40 bhp per L in the late fifties. Seems like Mike should have ploughed all that cash into giving it a power hike.
@bmgm3 .. 7.2 aka 440 did have up to 390 horsepoer along high amounts of torque..Much of depended on camshaft, manifold and Carb choice.. I have personally seen then running 89 octane with well over 475 street horsepower..No blowers or turbos...Jenden ordered them for smooth running not tire shredding ...And the Jenson was a very heavy car..Must be a semi good motor of the last of the true British cars "Bristol" and "Gordon Keeble" used them a long time..Bristol still uses Chrysler Motors
@bmgm3 unfortunately the smog controls that went on all the but American engines really choked down power. If all that had been removed I am positive that engine would be more powerful.
The dodge 440 is capable of 500 very reliable hp. with a simple cam , carburetor and muffler change. The bottom end on those 440's is legendary. So no need to mess with rods ,crank ,pistons. Stock heads ,high lift cam, dual mufflers and a carter 1040 carburetor, that motor would double it's HP.
@klassetompa, tell me how on the planet you've found this car ugly? It has a badass and unique shape, amazing sounding engine and it is possibly the first muscle car that to come out of the Europe (I'm talking about the first models). And yes it's rusty because it's enough AGED to be rusted you fuckwit, it's not a fucking Audi but c'mon you don't have to be a total assload to not realize that.
@VOLVORULEZ1995 Nah, its 335HP by 1972, but the older ones from 67-70 had 350 or 375, at least stock out of Chrysler. I don't know what Jensen did with the motors after they got them. My 4200 lb(1905kg) New Yorker would do 0-60 in 7 seconds stock, so it was a powerful engine, except all I did was put gas in the thing.
@Gazdatronik I take it you live in America? Just that the English word for gas is Petrol, I envy the fact that you have one, but in a good way, because you own a car that is really nice.
@VOLVORULEZ1995 It was quite an enjoyable car, unfortunately I had to sell it off 5 years ago, 8-11 MPG was not feasible since I was out of work. I had the chance to buy it back 2 months ago, but I had my fun, and did not want to repeat the same mistake.
To be honest, a very small car or truck appeals to me, like the Bedford Rascal or Suzuki Cappuccino. Of course, they don't sell city cars here in the states, so I may have to settle for a Miata. Still not bad, though.
@VOLVORULEZ1995 Oh yes, very serious. Mine was from 1968, and Gas was so cheap that nobody cared how much it used, and was made up for with a 26 gallon tank, which sounds like a lot, but was empty every 320 miles or so!
