Heard this track on the movie called "Sliver" with Sharon Stone and William Baldwin. Bought the cassette once I found out who the artist were and enjoyed it immensely. Recommended audio experience. Good post and will purchase another CD because of it. My tape was stolen during a house party. Bummer.
got this album when i was 15 for 4 bucks on the FYE sales rack..and it became the sountrack to my first weedsmokin' experience a couple days later. still love it
Tomorrow night...smoking a few joints, drinking a beer and cranking this album up on my CD player. Turning off the lights, closing the blinds...it's going to be just magic.
Never get tired of this. Can't really say I like their newer stuff but at least I have this to fall back on. They have become a big influence on a lot of other younger bands.
An astonishing opening for an album that has really shaped me.
The Verve's "shoegazer era" was definitely their best moment. I don't mean britpop stuff is bad, in fact, it is terrific but... guys.... this is soooo bad-ass.
Nick Mccabe.... what a piece of guitarist! A great Kevin Shield's "musical child".
I remember hearing them for the first time on Lollapalooza's second stage back in 94 I think. I kept hearing this amazing music and had to find it. It was cool to be only one of about 30 people entranced by them live on this little stage in the middle of a field.
listen to the lyrics as they melt into the riffs man it speaks to your sould when your on acid it expands your euphoria to another level of postiveness lets do it .... ill see you on the other side cheeers

read an article about McCabe's "go to" equipment that gets us up there in the clouds.A vintage Watkins "Copicat" echo & Stratocaster & ES series Gibson. You can find a guy on YT that gives a fair demo of the "Copicat".in action.
This album changed the way I played guitar forever. A masterpiece. How Richard Ashcroft can realease the smouldering turd that he did recently is unbelievable when you hear what he used to be part of! Bring on the Black Ships
@MercuryClock Didn't they breakup just prior to it's release & then reform w/ out McCabe for a tour ? No doubt a combination of urging by the" suits" at their label & Ashcroft's withdrawl pains.Anyway you are so right-ironic isn't it?They had to gear down (Symphony) to gain some radio play in the States.Amazing .that song was probably in the "round file" with the coffee grounds.
Man, does this take me back to some high flying nights in college, may have been the best album i owned back then and still a stellar listen, i swear you can soar on it......
This record is pure beauty....the intuitive shamans of mellifluous chaos and incorporeal turbulent travelogues open the gates and the Cosmos becomes a wonderful mess...the universe...the stars...beyond electric storms....thank you The Verve
this album came out of the shoegaze scene and there's plenty of those bands around but none as groovy as this unfortunately! You could try Slowive's early stuff, ride and sway: 'millia pink & green ep'
@kalaikus: have a listen to Kitchens of Distinction's '3rd time we opened the capsule'. It's not exactly the same as the verve; but every great band is unique.
wish i could have seen the verve back then. Never got bored of this album either, every song is incredible. mccabes guitar work on this is no less than perfect.
@dooney07brown i can go somewhere no one else has gone to this shit man you can too if you just let a sticker bend the mind a bit it will take you to happy space in your life trust me . cheers
Its something the likes of which reminds me one night I was laying down in a park under the stars staring at the stars watching the multi-colored acid induced patterns play with stars and moon, this song is unparalleled.

This song always influences my state of mind. It´s like a big discharge of energy, sometimes good and sometimes bad energy....
Listening to this song and closing my eyes, I empty my head.
It´s a magic sound for me since the first time I enjoyed this track...

You might like Spacemen 3, as this album was heavily inspired by their music. Other than that I can't really say, this is a pretty unique album.

And McCabe's shimmering guitar textures, along with the booming rhythm sections and Richard's voice, sends me on a voyage....
