Freddie was C 4 and E 6 passing four octaves when he sang and Bb4 in falsetto. (he could go up to 5-6 octaves while screaming in songs like M.O.T.B.Q. and Fairy King live when he was young.

Plant couldn't sing that high but he's conisdered good because he had a unique voice (and cheap studio effects that make people think he could sing high)

There's a major difference between live performances and studio recordings. First off, Studio versions you can redo over and over till you get it right. Live you get one shot and that's pretty much it.

Also, Freddie's voice became better suited for Innuendo when he took a break from touring. I believe around that time he also stopped smoking, which also helped.

He was in a great deal of pain but he did hit those notes.

When i listen to the two modern rock stations in my city, I hear Soundgarden and Audioslave DAILY. I've not heard a Coverdale tune in the past three months. Cornell has stood the test of time.
