With PlayStation Emulator Cheater i could only find the basic addresses, but this address for modify the enemies to fight, i couldn't find it, even the address for don't have random battles couldn't find it too. But well, i think some day i will study assembly and do that! One thing for avoid that attack of the snake and lose the character for the rest of the battle, you didn't tried to find the value for the characters on the battle slots and then freeze it for having always a character?

The story is kind of obvious from its name. MIDGAR zolom. It was in shinra HQ but escaped while you where there and retreated into the swamps

I always wondered why I had to fight the "Midgar Zolom" in the swamps far away from "Midgar", it appears that it was originally intended to be a monster created by Hojo and I'm guessing that it would've been a rare and extremely difficult standard enemy while climbing the Shinra building.

Random trivia, the Midgar Zolom is a reference to Jormungand in Norse mythology.

From what I've heard, the reason Midgar Zolom showed up in Shinra HQ is 'cause it was meant to be a semi-"guardian" in the Beta version but I dunno myself.

@GarlandTheGreat You sir are an evil man, that snake took the effort to come out of it's natural environment, through a desolate slum full of degenerate thieves and opportunist muggers, it then proceeded through several shinra security functions to even get close to the shinra hq. fFom there it had to sneak into the back enterance, go up 14 flights of stairs (picking up the elixer on the way) until it finally met you, AND YOU OVERKILLED IT! No wonder jenova's out to get you, YOU'RE EVIL!
