@EasyEnergy before you log in(or logout if you are already logged in), click the user you want to use, at the bottom there should be a list of window managers(you probably only have GNOME and Xterm in there) click xterm, and login, now you are running in "terminal mode" (to start the graphical ...stuff just write startx and press enter.)
@xSoundUpx Go to ubuntu.com and download Wubi, and run it in Windows. this asks you if you want Windows or Ubuntu when you turn on your computer. It also installs Ubuntu. Windows will always stay there.
@nh7tr I have an xbox and the games come no way near pc games because you have much better hardware to run them in higher graphics and have more control over the games themselves.
Kind of, you have Command Prompt, you need to go to run and type cmd. Some commands are the same or similar but many are not so you'll need to read up on it.
hahahaha... i duno why but that was funy to me sorry if it was assholish of me.. i put a thumb up. :/
i have vista and linux mint 8 and theres no terminal there in vista sir/ma'am LOL.. just command prompt but u cant input those commands for ubuntu into vista theyre different OS. I'm here trying to learn to use Linux Mint cuz i just installed it not long ago. its a cool OS. i like it but i gota learn it as well. :P
It depends, but for the most part, alot of the commands in Linux are fairly universal across the board. However, Ubuntu and Ubuntu based distros have root permissions disabled by default so therefore one needs to type "sudo" commands which gives admin abilities without having to actually login as root. Not all distros do this however.
If you start a company and you don want to pay license fee to your competitor, then you can use open source technologies or in this case linux system.
Some people, including me, like working in a complete open source system where we as users are free to do anything in our system.
Again, dude, It depends on the individual's tastes
cool i dont know why but when i see a terminal like interface in a device i get freaked out just the thought of one little wrong letter messing up the entire system is scary!!!!!
one wrong letter can't mess up the entire system unless you are doing a delicate system process as a superuser.. it's safe unless you're root and you don't know what you're doing
i have been taking a linux class for a good couple of weeks now and this is the first real thing that i have learned about linux. I'm definately subscribing.
dude ledzepking, im getting a 17 inch macbook pro and i will partition it with ubuntu 8.10, i have never tried linux. dont hate on stuff you havent tried
checked out your series(parts of it) great video's and as you go through quite indepth and informative. thank you. i have subscribed and will no doubt use you video's for references..
just because apple was the first personal pc doesn't mean mac copy anything, it means it may have improved, or completely recreated the personal comp. in their own way, if they'd copied anything there'd been a lawsuit beyond belief
im a little more "versed", so i will say this. i can take pretty much any unix peice of software and compile it to run in linux. all unix/linux distro's pretty much use the same stuff, with slight variations.... BSD is no different. ..as for Mach 4. MacOSX uses a "psuedo" mach 4 kernel. not a "true" mach 4 kernel.... therefore MacOSX is monolythic OS, just like unix/linux. where as real Mach4 is actually a microkernel (NewStep - it's origins)
can you say mac snob? mac didn't come up with spaces.
i first saw spaces years and years ago, on a X windows(linux machine). apple does do some innovative things, and i like apple as i own several of their products. they make great stable computers-though this is changing, (i worked for an apple technician.
they are becoming buggier than ever, and are expensive and become out of date quickly, forcing you to buy again.
tehy are corporate whores just like microsoft. i say OPEN SOURCE ALL THE WAY
This all seems needlessly complicated. Yeah... I'm a Mac, but thanks for already knowing that

whats the benefit of using linux??
....i use mac and windows but never had to need for a linux
hellblazer9261 2 years ago 3
the benifit of using linux is that it open source...
you can modify the system in ways not easily done or in some cases even possilbe in win or mac....and 90% of software and the OS itself are FREE
