I'm absolutely agreed with you on this!! I always missed those classic chars, cool that they appeared on kunio tachi no banka, but still need to appear together the other school gangs
I think there's actually two branches of the Kunio series--the original, more serious one that started with Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Kun/Renegade, and the more comical branch spun from Downtown Nekketsu Monogatary/River City Ransom. How they relate chronologically isn't explained, and aside from Kunio and Riki they focus on different characters.
It was a disappointment anyway, especially compared to how marvelous the 'gameplay' looks in this video.
From this video, people would expect 3D-styled cell shaded graphics, fighting anywhere or everywhere, and fast-paced gameplay. Instead we got bland sprites, narrow character customization, slow gameplay, and quests that frequently play hard-to-get. Also, when I played, two hits killed me. ^.^
Hopefully they'll make some major improvements while the game is offline.

As to the gameplay, given its flaws I'm not sad that Windy/NHN is taking a long time to revise it before release, but it would be nice to at least have reports and pictures released of their progress.

I'm considering developing a new Kunio Online game, but in flash so it's available to play on all OS's.
However, I'm sort of against this, because my programming skill is a bit too shallow to make an online game.
If I can get more developers on board, then I'll totally do it. Otherwise, I'm going to remake Double Dragon with 3D effects in flash. :)
