  • I knew this song since I was 6..I'm fourteen now and can sing this as beautifully as anyone

  • @LucianaRienne Well, alrighty then! Let's hear it!

  • Hello

    Jack...

'Uncle Lee' would well up with emotional tears of jubilation, enthusiasm and appreciation if he heard your on the mark, and sterling quality rendition of his beloved "Hammer Song". Incidentally,Uncle Lee had always felt that "Amazing Grace" and "House of the Rising Sun" could (and should be) combined into one song (one asking the question, the other being the answer). In one of his letters to me,he had done this very thing on paper. He was clearly inspired from above.

    Pax,

    Max

  • @misterstewball Wow! No kidding? I thought I was the first one to think of combining the two lyrics! I'm assuming you've seen my Amazing Grace In The House of the Rising Sun video. I see HRS as not so much a question as a warning and a resignation to desperation. It's the problem, really, that we all find ourselves in unless we find and receive God's amazing grace. I have another video I call Tragic Grace where I sing only the words to HRS to the traditional tune of Amazing Grace.

  • @guitmartiman

    Hi

    Jack...

I'm just relating to you what Lee had written to me...I tend to agree with your interpretation,my friend. Mr. Hays had taught me about a pair of 'lost' verses not normally performed.. No,I haven't heard your rendition. Since you don't have uploads where I can type in a search for a title,I don't know how to find it. Now that you've intrigued me...would it be too much for you to send my way (at your convenience,of course)? THANKS!

    Pax,

    Max

  • There is a spanish verson for this song, Victor Jara sung it 35 years ago. Hope u can find it somewhere. Si tuviera un martillo.

  • Cool! I'll look for it!

  • His version is called El Martillo. I couldn't find it on You Tube, but I did find it on Amazon dot com in a very expensive collection of all his songs on CD.

  • Have u tried downloading with ares or similar?

You´ll find a lot there for sure.

  • Thanks for the smile. As always, you did a great job.

  • I love making people smile! I wish you could have been at the jam I went to yesterday. That really would have made you smile. There were some really good musicians there. One of them was a lady banjo player who really did a good job on Foggy Mountain Breakdown. Another was a lady fiddle player who backed me up on Wayfaring Stranger and really made it sound awesome!

  • You are so lucky. I hope you had enough fun for the both of us.

  • I don't know if that's really possible, but did have a lot of fun. I took their names and numbers, so I may do some recording with them in the future!

  • That would be fun to see. Have you planned any more songs with Laurie? We haven't seen her in a while.

  • Yeah, there's a bunch I want to do with her, but she's been in South Dakota for the past month, and won't be back until Nov. 4th. She taking a two month personal training course at Black Hills Health and Education Center. She'll be nationally certified when she's finished.

  • Good job brother Jack! I remember hearing Peter Paul and Mary's version of this on the radio back in the day.

  • Back in the day is right! You must be about my age!

  • I've known this song for as long as I can remember as well. Excellent! I almost broke out in dance!

  • Go ahead! No one's watching! And who cares if they are! David didn't! I'm glad you liked it!

  • Nice cover well done 5* A.D. :)

  • Thanks! Do you know of anyone over 30 who hasn't sung this song at least once in their life?

  • Thanks!

  • That's very kind of you to say! Thank You!

  • OMGosh, I used to sing this song when I was little! I sometimes sing it as I'm cleaning. For some reason it strikes me as a housework song! Thank you for singing it, Jack!

  • I remember when I was a little kid going on outings with the Braille Institute in Orange County, California, a totally blind kid named John Mitchell (about a year older than me) used to tear this song up! I remember thinking, man, I wish I could play the guitar like him! About a year or so later I started learning how to play.

  • I may have the first comment here. That rocked man! 5 stars!!!!!11

  • Congratulations! No, really, thanks for commenting! Glad you liked it. I've always loved this song!
