WHY DONT YOU USE THAT PIECE FOR A MOULD AND YOU PUT PUTTY ON IT. THEN YOU COLORED. DONT WASTE TIME. Or trim a mould and with a hammer you can get the same result.
Awesome piece of art. Thanks for sharing. I cut mine in squares and put them on my kitchen wall as a back splash.I used about 65 cans, painted them with alcohol inks. They came out gorgeous. Thank you for the great ideas.
@usaearthling FANTASTIC! - as my art partner would say: "SOMEONE GETS IT!" (& puts the recycled cans into good use!).
We would LOVE to see a photos of your work & project! Could you visit our web site at lord-youngmiller.weebly.com & leave us a message? (we can share emails that way).
@penguinYT1 Thank you!... it may be a while yet, but we'll try to get at least a couple make-'em-yourself videos done in the future!... the tools are a hoot! - you'll be scrounging thru drawers "looking for parts"! LOL
@beatakrejcova Thank you so much!... aside from our regular art, there will soon be many other items utilizing this type of metal work - and recycled glass... It can be seen at lord-youngmiller.weebly.com
@exit30sc You are RIGHT! - though we usually use cat food can art for inlays and jewelry (check our web site: lord-youngmiller.weebly.com), we do have a couple (furniture) projects pending with AZ tea can art! LOL
LOL!... no, not intended for a commercial - not really a tutorial, either... just a couple older artists having TOO much fun playing with red cans at Christmas!
Funny thing, tho - the local distributor for Coke seemed almost offended by this bit of fun!
Oh my! - you've got us on THAT question!... depending on the amount of detail, (our guess is) it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours... when making things, we never really pay attention to time! LOL
On the plus side, working with aluminum pop cans is MUCH easier than our work with cat food cans, though what we make with THEM turns out looking like aged silver & produces a beautiful end product! - You can see some cat food can art on our web site: lord-youngmiller.weebly.com
More about the time involved with making one of these ornaments... we are a bit SLOW (at times) creating the metal work due to health issues. With severe visual impairment, serious arthritis and MS (multiple sclerosis), we're second guessing that some of the ornaments actually took much longer than originally posted.
NOT posted in complaint (LOL), these are just a few obstacles we work around. Thanks be to God, we may be SLOW (sometimes) but the joy in creating things never stops!
@LordandYoungMiller LOL yes I guess it is easier to just immerse in this awesome art at once then trying to finish LATER. I would recommend these to my highschool fellows. Thank you ^^ Catfood can art are cool too!
@7272rh Thanks for your comments! - and by all means share the ideas! You can do many things with the metal art, aside from Christmas ornaments... let your imagination run wild!

@Littlina Oh my! - lol! - that's an idea! We may try to do a video (when time allows) showing the basics of making ornaments; we could even possibly do a SERIES of videos (hmmm - THAT would be FUN!). Costing next to nothing for supplies, even the tools for doing the work are homemade... Thank you!
@pheenix42 Thanks for your encouragement, pheenix42!... aside from our art involving desert woods & plants, we currently have a couple other unique (& awesome!) projects underway - HOWEVER! - convinced we WILL get 'em done - lol -we're already "mentally drafting" video ideas to help people get started with can art.
The cans were embossed with homemade tools - example: one item we use (to the right of the mat) is actually a wooden chop stick! LOL... By experimenting with different shaped tips (wood & metal), we keep the ones we like and embed them into handles for easy use...

LOL! Go, pheenix 42, go! What an idea! Let us know if it works - and if it does, could you sent pics? Cool idea!...
Almost jealous!- I was fascinated by spirograph!... had one 40+ years ago (and wished I still had it! LOL).

Really pretty! Thanks for sharing.
What do you do with the sharp edges after cutting to prevent injuries! ?
Teresarose101 1 month ago
@Teresarose101 Thank you for your kind comments!
Amazingly enough, they are NOT overly sharp! - we've had many people pick them up & handle them & all were astounded by the smoothness of the edges.
(That's NOT to say you COULDN'T get cut!...LOL - if you took one & started sawing away with it like a knife, you'd eventually get hurt!).
Two MAIN "rules":
1. make SMOOTH cuts
2. keep everything rounded/ no corners or points
Lightly sand with fine manicure pad when done ;)
