  • I have a 12" of this - its so very long since Ive heard it, as I dont have a turntable anymore. Im really glad to have found this youtube version. Many thanks for posting this classic.

  • One of my top ten songs ever!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • great to find this track again

  • GREAT TRACK,,,,VIDEO DONE POST....HE'S ROLLING IN HIZ GRAVE...HIZ VIDEO WOULD HAVE FASTER AND SHARPER EDITS....ONE OV THE KINGS....JOHN ZEWIZZ

  • Excelente video

  • ah,Mr Pickwicks Club, liverpool 1983(?) Can still remember it,good tune for good times..

  • The video makes me want to take a relaxing night drive/walk in the city.

  • LOVE IT TOTAL WEIRD IN A GOOD WAY weird, eccentric, bizarre, odd, creative, interesting, unusual melodic futurepop, awesome

  • @djmusicjac Not futurepop, synthpop. :)

  • @HAL0INREVERSE i know what you mean by synthpop, however synthpop is somewhat smoother in the melodies. When i heard this i did not think synthpop as i heard a bit of melodic industrial in the tune and neither did i want call it that, so i called it melodic futurepop. Saying that futurepop didn't exist then, but i still will call it that

  • @djmusicjac I get you. I do agree it's closer to futurepop than synthpop. Perhaps...'proto-futurepop', ha!

  • @HAL0INREVERSE you have a good point there about proto futurepop, if you listen to many of the tunes that have some elements of new wave or old school ebm but not exactly called that, so where do they fit? neither are they synthpop neither so they could be called proto futurepop. Its a bit like the italodisco and eurodisco and a bit like italodisco and synthpop. The thing is proto sounds a good word to fit sounds that were not invented back then, well done

  • Alway's liked the imagery of this video.

  • can´t stop listenning to it!

  • "Reggae Time" :D

  • This sounds like a mix of Throbbing Gristle and Skinny Puppy.

    ..in other words, "FFFFUUUUUUCK YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"

  • amazing power synths!!!!

  • this song bring out lot of memories

  • @goodvsbad21 : You say so !!! :D

  • Video created by film director Alex Proyas. Sad to think that Frank has been dead 8 years now - and never got the MASSIVE recognition his work deserved. I saw him play live twice back in the 80's, and he was simply awesome - a real force of nature. I miss his idiosyncratic music, another one-off, gone.

  • @brianartillery You know, it truly saddens me to know that I never had the chance to hear his music live...

From his CD music/videos I became quite fond of fad gadget and always knew the talent he possessed, but to find out he was dead 5-6 years before I started listening kills me.

Although music is eternal, I'm glad he will always be with me...

  • 2:34

the devonshire st tunnel at Central tunnel..it looks so cool in this video

  • @nitrovo should say central station

  • Incredible track, way ahead of its time. Loved it then, love it now. Thanks, Frank, you left us a classic.

  • wow mgmt totally ripped of Franks sound....

  • @TheNineinchsnails wuts mgmt?

  • @MushroomBluex MGMT is an 'indie' band.

  • The besttttttttttttttt

  • i'm addicted to this!!!!

  • Great song, great memories. Thanks for posting

  • Much much much better than Depeche Mode.

  • cant get this out of my head , love the look of the video aswell

  • Makes Sydney look so awesome. love it

  • Fad Gadget never got the credit he deserved.

  • Reminds me of a Joy Division early demo song?

  • nope ... last one is mine :-) Brilliant song

  • Brilliant. One of the finest singles ever released on Mute and to think that Mute founder Daniel Miller plays on this too. Rest in peace, Frank.

  • There are no words to describe this!

  • REST IN PEACE !!!

  • Fad Gadget ebm lol you guys are nut

  • everithings that sounds sophisticated is EBm or Industrial to many goths.

  • the last 150 views are mine !:))))

  • Used to robot to this song lol. Quality track

  • fad gadget excellent

  • great track

  • Fad Gadget is a genius

  • This is EBM !!!High Energy Synth Pop singl with Industrial elements.Classic from 1980.

  • @kombikrajsta I never liked EBM as a description for any type of music... but if you like it, hey go nuts. Personally I'd file Fad gadget under darkwave or proto-industrial.

  • Isnt this pretty damn close to being EBM?

  • I saw Fad Gadget about 9 years ago in a tiny venue in London. Awesome! Got the album but it's great to see the short film that goes with the track.

  • This is just Killer...leave it at that.

  • @Fekall

Absolutely, couldn't have said it better. KILLER KICK ASS!

  • Whatever Wave

  • analog wave

  • generic reference to contemporary definitions for sub-genre created by the clueless marketing departments of record distributors.

  • oooh, aren't you so edgy and cynical

  • redundancy!!

  • wave-wave

  • micro-wave

  • hardware wave

  • dark wave

  • strange wave

  • brilliant tune !!

  • Great i have this on 7in :)

  • "Drugy's ass"

  • gosh. sydney. I don't remember fad gadget touring here back then - I guess he must have - this track was popular in Aus at the time... was this the original video, or made later? (or just a you-tube cut-up?)

  • this is actually a short movie directed by alex proyas , yes it was made for the song but it is listed as a short movie, this is what he done befor he became a big time director and bought us the crow and dark city

  • I likeed totaly

  • Never noticed, but seems like the music in Escape from New York uses these exact same synths.

  • Wow good call! It's a similar progression too.

  • Excellent track.

  • A middle point bewteen Synth pop and Minimal Wave(Or electro maybe).

  • new wave

  • cold wave

  • this songs fuckin awesome XD

  • Ah the video was made by Alex Proyas from Australia who went on to do Hollywood films such as 'I Robot'.

  • This dude knew how to create dark atmospheric music with analogue electronics long before everyone had access to MIDI and loops.

  • i agree, but there was loops way befor midi.

with Analog tape and analog sequencer. :)

  • Yeah Moroder used loops too, appregiators very similar to what Tovey would have used. Before that King Tubby used cut audio tape. But I hear what you're saying.

  • I didn't even know there was a video for this

  • Melancolic song but lovely!!!

  • Heard this for the first time when I was in the 6th grade, I'm 40yrs old now, still awesome!

  • he was a weird one but a geat artist none the less R.I.P Frank

  • I saw Fad Gadget 6 months before he tragically died at the Depeche Mode Exciter tour in Manchester 2003. I must admit i'd never heard any of his stuff before but when opened with this song, i was blown away!

    Damn shame:(

  • Correction, i meant 2001 and he didnt open with this song it was state of the nation. Still a good show though!

  • loved Fad Gadget how did he die?

  • Heart attack

  • Ah, a young Salik Silverstein at work( director of Trojan Warrior, producer of Dead End).

  • Rest In Peace F.G.

  • Great song by a great artist!

  • Ah, a young Alex Proyas at work (director of Dark City and I, Robot).

  • My favorite Fadgadget song is "Ladyshave", but I quite like this song (the drill sound is genius) and this video, in my opinion, is better than 90% of videos today. Sorry to hear Frank passed; he was a unique force in music.

  • Fad Gadget: Synthesizer, voice, tapes, Black and Decker V8 double speed electric drill

Frank was a legend - saw him 3 months before he died, supporting Depeche Mode at Wembley. RIP Frank.

  • This song has been lost with time it's such a shame the radios dont play any of this stuff anymore because its dated and wouldnt connect with the new generation according to them. In fact the new genetation is listening to stuff like this again! This song should have been a huge hit along with Back To Nature and the Fireside Favourites album.

  • Love this song do you know where i can download this video and others from fad gadget.

    Ranger.

  • forget the radio! :-)

  • the guy Im in an industrial band is doin his best with his radioshow, he plays a ton of fad gadget, chrome, residents, pwei, stuff like that... but i agree, we bemoan the same tragedy... but we Cover this song, and theres a good video online... try looking up Adaptive Reaction, thats us... just trying to spread the Tovey influence, Cheers!

  • Nice 2 hear someone is keeping his spirit alive, great stuff u do, keep it up!

  • This is one of the best songs we used to dance on in the Domino dancing in Antwerp.

    Unforgettable!

  • RBIRO77 i agree indeed.

  • Awesome song, and a great video by Alex Proyas. I recommand the early short film by Proyas called "Groping", very similar atmosphere like "ricky's hand" video, but even more dark, sick, gloomy and strange.

  • DEPECHE MODE'S "Photographic" comes to mind.

  • Mode cribbed this

  • agree indeed.

  • BRITISH HAM!!!

  • so good

  • our band covers this...adaptive reaction

  • Cool, its kinda funny my name is Ricky Hand lol

    btw rip frank :(

  • RIP

(luv this song, one of their best!!)

  • RIP Frank...

  • reminds me of the film, Escape from New York".

  • Most musicians are only followers.

And very rarely, you see unique innovators like Fad Gadgets.

    R.I.P. Frank~

  • AH the joys of Neu!

He so rocked - now if I can only find "King of the Flies".

  • love that song!!

  • exelant brillant cool the best

  • thank you sooo much for posting this. aaahhh the memories !

  • I LOVE you guys for reminding me of this - don't know why but the song came back to me today and I just looked it up on youtube - I sang along with all the words and ended up blubbing for half an hour ahhhhh nostalgia - now I feel old. I had original 10" in 1981 when I was just a tiny tot and everyone thought I was really odd for liking Fad .............. Happy days.......

  • Anyone remember FIRE SIDE FAVOURITES LP

  • Sure do, got it tucked away somewhere =)

  • brilliant

  • ...I still remember that September 2001 when Fad Gadget played live on stage during Depeche Mode's Exciter tour. It was in Hamburg, pouring rain, ass cold...and during Ricky's Hand that Frank threw his blood-soaked rubber hand into the crowd and fucking hit me...I looked like having had an accident...it felt good and the rest of the evening was brilliant knowing Ricky's Hand was in my pocket...

  • Frank Tovey R.I.P.

  • styggt!

  • loOove !!

  • la mano de ricky de flema

  • I just Luuuuuvv IT! xD Go Go; Fad!!

  • Where would Trent Reznor be without Frank Tovey

  • I'm tired of all the bullshit music and music videos. I like this.

  • I agree! No one wants to be creative and different in fear of not being considered "hip."

  • Most of it is definitely Sydney, so probably all of it is.

  • Hi,does anyone know where this video was taken as the roads look familiar but i can't think where, thanks.

  • Alex Proyas directed a Fad Gadgets video? Didn't knew that!

  • not the most original concept for a video, but the directors have an exquisite touch with composition and editing that make it haunting. Song is one of gadgets finest, too.

  • what i like about his music, videos, and live acts is the satire and just plain bizarreness of it. music needs to become bizarre again.

  • Does anyone have footage of "Untitled"?

  • yes!

  • Superb macabre track.

  • Fad Gadget is so badass!

    Long Live Frank!
