  • my for some qs if i put a thin layer of tape between the coil layers will it afect it

  • what if i swap the 300v cap for a 600v cap and amp up the power to idk like 4 9vs set up in the way for power?

  • would it be a good idea to juse a some of the 450V 20Amp Capacitors from Electric Heatings?

  • firstly can you use a longer tube and have the pattern of tape, wire, tape repeated and will this make it more powerful. secondly is the tape just a place marker to make the job easier or is it more important than that. thirdly will 1 big capacitor have the same effect as 20 little ones? at the moment i have a 3ft steel pipe, lots of insulated speaker wire and a really big battery but may have access to a super capacitor.

  • im so gonna shoot someone now:)

  • can you use 20 gauge copper wire?

  • When you put all those many caps , you should have put extra chargin circuits , too , to charge fast.I would try to put 6 charging circuits in series powered by a 9v battery

  • Must you use the circuitry from the camera (is it necesary i mean) or can you just use normal capacitor?s

  • were did you get that wire

  • I have a question: the first small coilgun you made with one capacitor can that shoot.

So the one you made with 20 capacitors, was that just you wanting to go bigger or do you need 20????

  • @StayCing the more capacitors means more energy that can be stored and released at once when firing, the more energy the stronger the coil will be. you can do it with only one, but dont expect the projectile to go much of anywhere

  • 3:18

holy sh*t thats a lot of wire!!!!!

  • Hi, I have a 12Kv 60 mA Transformer and like 5 40KV Capasitors, can you help me to make a awesome coilgun?

  • how did you attach the wire to the capacitor?

  • @tedmanliang he probably solderd it

  • how do you get the capacitor to charge, and when fully charged, hold it's charge, instead of releasing it instantly?

  • is the copper wire enemel coated ????

  • @badpaulnadur

no. the wire must not be insulated

  • @EchoNine1 yes is does

  • can it be used camera's?

do the capacitors or the baterie voltage make the gun charge faster?

and how do you connect the charge swith to the circuitboard?

does the barrel need to be iron or can it be PVC?

  • @Azulong94

    pvc. definitely pvc.

  • do we have to put 20 and does an old film camera work for this

  • what would happen if i use more powerful caps? is it still going to charge them to 300V max?

  • think of building this using half of a wherehouse full of capacitators and then the rest of it for the other stuff... and instead of a screw, a cannon ball. or car.

  • say cheese...............WTF my eyes!!

  • will this hert you if you get shocked by it???

  • @Flea5000000000 fuck yes i have been 2 times if feel like some hits you when its charged but it goes away

  • You do not need that pacific gauge wire, but atleast have a 30 gauge.

  • You do not need that pacific gauge wire, but atleast have a 30 gauge.

  • that's how you do a coil gun? gross!

  • Dude, stupid question, is it posible to make it work with 9v? I mean I've got iron toy gun projectiles so I don't thing I'm going to need much.

  • You didn't say where the wire should go on the circuit board? So where should it go? Connected with the battery?

  • i did this exact setup and it's not working. Do you need to use solid uninsulated wire for the coil, and does the coil have to be perfectly aligned/ a certain number of turns? I think that might be where i'm going wrong

  • @charlieDetroit if your cable is insulated, the energy wont get through to the cable. Make sure that it's bare at the ends.

  • @HMInnovations Similar problem as charlieDetroit's. I didn't fully understand your answer. So did you use uninsulated copper wire? And when you wind the coil can you go back on yourself?

  • I'm building one myself, I've got 17 capacitors and with the coment by @charlieDetroit i have my main question answered aswell.

But I have one more. To connect the switch to the capacitor bank, should I use a specific gauge wire? Or, for instance, gauge14 wire used in electric basic instalations will work? Also... What if I use a 12V battery?

  • @IyasuToushirou ive tryed charging a camera circuit with 3 aa's and my circuit from the camera exploded :D

  • Comment removed

  • I've got a bunch of questions so bear with me: how many capacitors did you use and are they in parallel? Is the microswitch on the box for charging or something else? And is one battery enough for twenty capacitors? And when you put the capacitors in the box, did you detach them from the camera circuit boards? Sorry about all the questions, I'm doing a project for AP Physics

  • @charlieDetroit I used 18 capacitors, In Parallel, I used the microswitch on the camera circuit for charging them all together, one battery is enough to charge them for 1 shot, and yes I detached them from the camera circuit boards.

I only left one attached to the camera circuit box, i attached the other capacitors to that one capacitor that was left attached on the camera circuit.

  • @HMInnovations thanks a lot man

  • @HMInnovations hey i did dat u said but still its not workin

  • how do you know which direction the projectile will go?

  • @themasterofalllegos

    use the right hand rule.

  • @DanielLiu888 what does that mean?

  • @themasterofalllegos It goes out towards the coil, so if you have a coil at the right, and you put the projectile on the left, it will go to the right.

If you have the coil on the left, and you put the projectile on the left, it's not going to move. thats why you need a good .5" or 1" on one end to put the projectile in it.

  • @HMInnovations ok thanks

  • @sesshomarusmother This one beats the US Navy's one even more. Go to tek-bull dot com/search?q=Rail&x=0&y=0#en

    Now that is a Gun!

  • when he said make the tape a half inch thick, did he mean in diameter or from the straw to the outside? cuz it looks like he did it so its a half inch total...

  • does it have to be a camera or the components its made of, or can it just be a capacitor attached to the coil

  • you could'ov saved the money and bought capacitors separately

  • @LucifersDisciple6 I got them for free if you go by a Walgreens and ask for the used Disposable cameras

  • wat my video 'how to make a 400v charging circuit' it explains how to shrink the circuit down by taking out the four main components and sticking them into a single small circuit, it runs off of 1.5v and you can easily pod multiple circuits together to give a greater current output thus reducing charging time.

  • This seems fun but Dangerous....How Dangerous?

  • @tiger12220 I got shocked by 250v from one capacitor and it gave me a little spark burn and made the muscles in my arm go nuts (I crippled my hand on the edge of my desk because of the reflex). So not deadly lol, but it's scary as shit if you do get shocked.

  • How many layers of copper wire do I need anyway? I have a big flash system from an old film camera and im still assesing the constrution details still.

  • what is the box you put all of the capacitors in and how did you set he capacitors up?

  • Is this just made to make me feel stupid?

  • @austin76674 you need to do the same thing while using large capacitors and more power... just UP everything a strong powerful one takes a lot of explaining to write it out, it's more complicated that this.

  • Could you tell me the details of those compasitors? uf? and so on?

  • COMIC SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANS! Also, do they sell disposable cams anymore?

  • would it help to set the coil farther up the barrel so the projectile more time to speed up??

  • cant you just use the leads from the flash?

  • @thermosinthesis In theory i guess you could

  • @HMInnovations how to make a coil?i mean when you makethe big coil like this, how long to take the wire and, when i overlap the wires on each other like you did,i think that the electromagnetic force will decrease instead of increasing....HELP!

  • lol the pic he put up looks exactly like a project we did 3 years ago in 7th grade :)

  • exacly how strong is this? it didnt look too powerful when u shot it

  • text and talk

  • i used 20 gauge wire does it matter??????

  • What is the point of the duct tape? Is it necessary?

  • how many jaules?

  • Cool video! I had a coil gun myself that i made from a pre existing electromagnet from an electromagnetic stapler. Also it shot bolts with 2 nuts on it about 30 feet. Too bad it had to be plugged in. Ill try this though thanks

  • I got the part with the humming but then it won't let me fire.

  • If you were to charge the capacitor bank with a 9v and solder your connections,as well as using enamel magnet wire, your nail would do serious damage.

  • please help me out i wanna make something liek this but a more advanced 1 using a programming n circuit timing thing.,...so that 1 battery in the end u had, was that 1 battery for the 20 capacitors or did each capacitor have a battery of its own??? and how did u make the coil gun strong? n how do u link all the capacitors?

  • Do you need to coil it perfectly straight? Because I used a thicker gauge wire that was a little hard to coil.

  • חזק ביותר למדדתי מיזה משהו טוב

  • man do we only need the capacitor or the complete circuit............?

  • Why don't u use more driver circuits to Charge up the capacitor.. Would be much faster...

  • can you use enamel wire to make the coil?

  • @Cardfold11 enamled copper wire is THE BEST wire for coilguns.

  • a normal-open push button switch, no i didn't wrap it. would it help?

  • what kind of button switch? and do you need to wrap it in duct tape?

  • what kind of button switch?

  • where u get 22 gauge copper wire from

  • @xtarbob ace true-value radio shack hardware stores electronic store automotive stores

  • no, i have 2 coils from 2 transfo's. There were allredy wraped.

  • How did you wrap the coils, did you just coil all the way to the end and then start going back the opposite way with the coils? or did you do it some other way?

  • doesnt it have to be a metal tube

  • I use 2 coils from 2 diffrend transfo.'s (adaptors 230-12) that i linked parallel.

  • i use a coil from a adaptor and my projectile is a screw.

  • you cant use anything that is attracted yo a magnet and the copper wire has to insulated

  • hey i tried the bttry one it dosed matter because o wat a screw

  • One more question, the tube cannot be a conductor correct?

  • Comment removed

  • The shock from this would not be enough to kill you correct? Just a whole lot of pain? Hahaha

  • @CPrenda probably not because its low amps high volts. but im not sure, don't try it anyway

  • Can you show a video specifically on how to wrap a coil with more than one layer, and also how to assemble the capacitor bank, from linking the capacitors, to what type of circuit board to use if any. Thanks!

  • this may be a stupid question, but i only have a brass rod for a barrel, would this work? if i did use it, would i have to coat it in duct tape or something?

  • Comment removed

  • it doesnt have to be a enamel-coated wire does it? because I have copper wire that is insulated in the plastic

  • could the pipe be a conductor?

  • @dann0313 no

  • That looked like a steel tube you used, i thought it couldn't be a conducter?

  • @NineZeroSix906 is actually not steal, its made out of a composite group of materials, it conducts 0 electricity what so ever. Is made out of led i think lol or maybe cast iron .

  • @HMInnovations Will pvc work?

  • @NineZeroSix906 yes, a pen tube works best.

  • @NineZeroSix906 no im 90% sure it wont

  • @yodoshow It wont conduct? Sorry i dont understand what your answering?

  • @HMInnovations both lead and cast iron conduct electricity, if my 6th grade science teacher is not a liar.

  • @HMInnovations

Dose the outer shape of your "barrel" matter? would a pen tube with a six side (sextigon) shape on the outer side work?

  • @NineZeroSix906 you know nothing about electro magnets. when the current is induced in the copper wire, it will make the tube magnetised. Then the item inside it because there was change in flux will have emf induced which means the item inside will get magnetised as well. therefore then you press the switch the item inside will repel the tube and will fire out of one end

  • How much volts can hold one capacitor? And where can I buy that, and how expensive is that?

  • When I made it and tried to fire the switch just sparked but it did not fire the I ditched the switch for just connecting the 2 wires but when I touched the 2 wires together they sparked but it did not fire

  • what makes a coil gun strong?

    the volt or uF?

    and how does that work?

  • @thecustomart11 visit the link in our description it has all the answers you need.

  • how do you connect all those capacitors from cameras together??

also, why we need to take off the battery before firing?

  • @bionicle38 visit the link in our description it has all the answers you need.

  • So the flash of electricity Mage a massive magnetic spike which pulls the ball forward but lasts so shorly it doesn't pull it back? And say not to use your finger

  • @1zacster yup

  • does it matter if it is a button switch

  • @lockpick234 no

  • sould i use striped wire or lightly insolated wire?

  • @MrStemkilla enamel coated wire / slightly insulated

  • also dont use a conductive tube (especialy ferrous) a soda straw works great

  • just to help you guys out dont use regular coper wire or it wont work. use mgnet wire, its copper wire thats coated in varnish and can be found in motors and transformers make sure to sand the varnish of the leads

  • do we have to use duck tape or can we use gafa tape

  • how would i hook up more than one capacitor to the flash board, do i just hook them up in sequence and re-solder them to where it was originally?

  • ok one more question: does the pipe have to be non-conducting?

  • is it possible to put thee battery straight into the capacitor without the camera circuit?

  • @lambodb9 if you don't use the camera circuit you will ruin your capacitor; I found out the hard way trying to make a taser.

    :(

  • @cbkraft no you wont, visit the link in our description you will find the answers you need.

  • @cbkraft I got some help from a friend and said u dont need the camera chip.

Itested this out an it worked a charm :P

  • when i buy a button switch, will it come with the covered wires for the connections?

  • @spieagentl yes

  • @spieagentl i use light switch

  • HOLY SHIT when discharged the capacitor it must have been at full charge because it blasted sparks 6 inches in the air and put some black on my Letherman

  • how i test the copper coil and tube is right???

  • i got shocked even after the battery was taken out. is that possible?

  • @theTicklemehellmo Yes, capacitors hold a charge even after the battery has been removed. Careful

  • bet this guy hasent even made one yet...

  • If you used more than one AA cell (I use one cell per charger, hooked up as they were, three chargers/seven caps) it'll charge much more quickly.

  • how many turns did you have on the coil? roughly or length of wire used

  • can u show or give a link how to make a stronder one cul how do u connect the stuff

  • @macdude3585 Soldering iron.

  • does the wire have to be coiled once or multiple times

  • @terminator0405 Multiple times

  • Comment removed

  • Does it have to be 6 in. and what is the barrel made out of? will plastic work? can I make it with three barrels?

  • @terminator0405 no it doesnt have to, it's made out of plastic, and yes you can

  • Is there a way to make it more powerful? may be strong enough to break the paper?

  • @terminator0405 yes, and i guess we could remove the piece of steel behind the paper lol but you can add stronger capacitors

  • what type of barrel did you use?

  • can i use a light switch instead of a button switch?

  • @HMInnovations cool

  • could i use an old digital camera in stead of a disposable?

  • @ziggyzaggy7 it be cheaper to use a disposable cam, that way if it breaks it wont hurt your pocket to much :)

  • Can you please upload a schematic with all the different components?

  • its too weak . . . , no use of that :(

  • hi! iw made one aw got 30 caps connected it and did the stuff and charged it.... but after iw fired it the next time i could not fire.....soo iw checked the whole thing and saw that my switch is burnt then i changed it to a 16amp switch and it burnt agine.

    what should i do?

  • I've done exactly what you guys have done on this video but the capacitors won't charge, any possible reasons why?

  • @F1aShGL0 batteries messed up, upside down, or shitty capacitor :P

  • Comment removed

  • @xBeyondInsane You can get the switches and project boxes in the back of a Radio Shack, in the organizers that have all of that. The camera brand shouldn't matter, and go around to a few camera places, or Walmart, and ask politely what they do with disposable cameras once the film is developed, and talk them into letting you have them. Thats what I did. They may say no and that they recycle them, so go to another place afterwards.

  • does the button matter? the button to charge up the flash?

  • Does it matter if they are in series or parallel?
