  • Niesamowita szybkość i siła wyrzutu.

  • As for the technique, Roman Feldman who was his personal coach, and coach of Andrei Abduvaliev ( 92 Olympic Champion, 93 and 95 world champion) and a fellow Ukrainian explained to me that a hammer thrower simply stands up and the end of the throw and everything else is style not technique.

  • Sedykh was seen as a spent force. and we didn't expect this, he got a standing ovation, as did Litvinov.

I never expected that some 26 years later I would not have seen anyone throw farther.

  • I was there in 1984 watching, I thought the scoreboard was faulty and he had thrown 75.34, a good throw, but the mood spread through the crowd of some 10,000 watching in Cork, Ireland's second city.

it was a hushed silence as we digested what the scoreboard read. We then realised we had witnesses something special, he had thrown 86m, two meters beyond the world record, and far beyond his 81.80 best.

  • @leoesharkey so he increased hes own PB with 5 meters?

  • Sedykh actually accelerates more than most throwers, there is no blocking whip action in hammer, that's the other events. The release is the same as the turns before. The reason he appears to stop is because he has transferred so much rotational momentum to the hammer. Great video

  • ofc he accelerates more than most throwers it's only 3 turns xD

  • not a block like jav, disc or shot...but he definately blocks onto the left leg and does not go into a 4th turn. maybe not as agressive in terms of hip rotation...

  • @Flyzguy This comment is 6 months old, but...

Sedych DOES block... As far as I know, the transfer of rotational momentum is what a block is. Polish hammer thrower Szymon Ziólkowski appear to spin in place, but even he blocks for a split second.

  • Nomenclature aside, I think the important thing is that young throwers don't think about the finish as an effort to "block". The finish should come naturally and automatically. Any effort to "block" will be detrimental. Discus and shot terminology rarely is used with hammer because those events involve dragging; just the opposite as hammer.

  • @Flyzguy nah he def blocks

  • Wow, when he later breaks this record again in 1986, I think, he is much more bulky. He is much slimmer. Still does not accelerate, and then, block with his left hip and leg to create a full stop on a dime, turning his arms into just the end of a whip, thereby producing absolutely maximum hammer head speed, as well as my man Litvinov! Sedyikh could have thrown much further! Wow!

  • cool video ! thought I had seen enough of sedykh, but oh no :)
