Thank you Marcus! I know you have nightmares about that mission but people like us sleep easy at night because there are men like you who keep us safe! We do appreciate it regardless of the nay sayers and the liberal media. We know who has our backs......!
I had the pleasure of meeting Marcus today at Carmine's in NYC. To say he is a humble man is an understatement. He came over to my table and sat right across from me, and as we were talking he said "I cannot believe that this many people actually want to come eat with me and hang out with me...All I did was my job, what I was supposed to do". It's touching to know that heroes like Marcus do exist...I'd give this guy the shirt off my back.
I've read your book....good stuff. Thank you....you are a great American...That said...I know you....I know your shipmates. Your Fathers....Marcus....speaking engagements? What would Senior say to that, Shipmate?
I bought the book when i visiting the USS Midway in San Diego. Read it with haste and did not miss a single word. I NEVER read. great book. made think about some liberal qualities I have and definitely affirmed my admiration for the SEALs.
as a soldier that has had to lose close friends. i can honestly say that i cried reading his book. when i read the part about Axel. how they found him when they recovered the body. i had to put the book down. thats some tough stuff. hey Marcus, if you ever read this comment. thank you. sorry your fame had to happen because of such messed up business. this guy is from around the same parts i grew up. i might see him someday by chance someday. that would be pretty cool.
Yep, this book made me think....im going to go into the navy to become a seal. It makes you think when you know that you are going to be face to face in situations that demand the most of human condition...conditions that are so sinister that only the peak of the human race can survive to fight. I am going to have shoes bigger than i can imagine to fill when i get there. Scary thought.
@Methadonor1 I am very fortunate to have met Marcus just today. It was really an honor to have shook his hand and he was cool enough to sign my book that I had purchased today as well. I hope to one day be at least 1/4 the man this guy is.
I've finish reading his book "Lone Survivor" at Christmas eve. While reading his book, I was crying and never stop crying all the way to Christmas eve. I didn't know youtube is full of Marcus Luttrell video. To hear him talk on video, has great impact on me. I feel good I can sleep well at night knowing there are men like Marcus who'll give their all to keep me safe. God bless you Marcus, God bless all our men and women in uniform. Thank you very much for your service and for keeping me safe.
Man i feel bad for this guy. Knowing just the basics of Navy SEALS, the bond they form with eachother is more than brotherhood. He would throw away his title as a hero in a heartbeat just to get his men back, and thats what makes SEALs so great.
Thank you Marcus. For what you did over there for us, and for talking about it publicly to keep their memories alive and showing the world the ideals and freedom as Americans proclaim loudly isn't false rhetoric, but a virtue by which our fighting men live.
Notice at the very end when the crowd starts to applaud he immediately places himself in the shadow. That's what is called humility,...All heroes possess that trait, and he is one hell of a hero.
Oh My God.. This Guy is amazing. I have THE most respect for him and his team. Really his hard fought battle with him and his teammates just truly is just... i cant even put it in words. God Bless you and your team...
I completely agree. I just finished the book, and it was by far the greatest peice of writing i've read. On top of that, it's all real. This man and Danny, Axe and Murphy are all heros, including the other fallen SEALs.
If you haven't read his book you need to. It'll make you think twice about complaining about having a "bad day at the office". Mr. Luttrell is a true hero with an unbreakable spirit. Thanks for your service and RIP all fallen SEALs.
you know how people have their heros. Some say it their parents, some say its their fav. team, or player. But for me, its this guy. Marcus Luttrell, Danny Dietz, Matt Axelson, and Michael Murphy and the other 16 KIA in the mountains.
This book has been the best book, eye opening reading I own. This book is a must read.
If you have not read the book Lone Survivor, you are at a loss. This is one of the very FEW books I have read that has given me goose bumps. PS I read a lot of military stuff as well as others.
i know what u mean. i never read, but recently i started reading this book to pass time on a road trip. i got goose bumps several times. it really shows what these guys do for us.
ive never watched a military video on youtube without there being negative comments until now. im glad people are realizing that we have a military doing what needs to be done and that there are still heroes to do it.
I've read their story (Lone Survivor) 5 times. I still cannot stop my grieving. I wasn't there but I feel like I have a connection. I want to drive up to his house and give him an endless hug, but I know he doesn't want that. May God Bless him and his fallen friends. Amen.
Marcus Luttrell is my hero but not just him, Michael Murphy, Matthew Axelson, Danny Dietz, and all the men who have died in the Middle East i'm going into the service myself i love you guys
Marcus Luttrell is an amazing person. His book, "Lone Survivor" is being released again on April 28th on Amazon....mine is already on order and I can't wait to get it!
Wow. I was reading this. And I was almost getting to a part, where I was thinking, how in the hell could it get worse. Get this. This was when Danny was shot in the neck. Thats not even through of half of the terror and hell he went through. Falling of a mountain, being sniped in the leg and falling down a mountain. Not being able to speak because he needed water. Wow this is one of hell of a guy and too meet in person would be amazing.
i am not a reader but when i picked up this book yesterday i couldnt put it down. i read 150 pages yesterday and this book is so detailed and so emotional. God bless you marcus and rip matt axelson, michael murphy, and danny dietz.
This book is the only one to ever make me cry. America needs more people like Marcus, Danny, Ax, and Mikey. Keep doing what you do Marcus. You have served your country proudly.
yep, i read up on it a few weeks ago, it should be out summer/fall of 2009. from what ive heard the movie is a go but the navy does have the authority to terminate it if the film company does a bad job
Best book i have ever read and i have read them all, think blackhawk down by mark bowden then multiply it 100 times.
I also heard they might be making a film about Roberts Ridge the battle for Takur Ghar during Operation Anaconda when Navy seal Neil Roberts fell out of a chinook into the hands of Al queda and the rescue attempts after it which claimed 7 more lives.
Another highly recomended book "Roberts Ridge" by Malcom MacPherson.
the book is a awsome story about 4 heros who faced 150 shit heads and thats almost 35 shit heads to 1 seal and they kicked some ass. marcus is a hero!!!!!
i read the book and was blown away, makes me wish i was a american instead of english!
the part about all the people turning up to suuport his family when he was MIA was amazing, we never get any thing like than over here, and thats why this country is going down the toilet.
thank you for your brilliant commentary. CINC made the rules of engagement - and for these guys, ROE wasn't the problem - obtuse statements like yours disparage what these guys were fighting for. (17 years Navy, 13 in NSW - still serving)
I just finished the book. I sat still for 5 hours to finish it, it had my eyes welled up and my heart aching. The guys of operation redwing are all heroes
What an amazing man. U r in my prayers daily since I read Lone Survivor. A quote that will go down in history.."I won't ever quit...u see someone fight that hard, makes life seem pretty easy."
Prayers out to Marcus and all surviving family members and friends of SEAL Team 10. Thank you for giving the ultimate sacrifice for our country! "When you see someone fight that hard...makes life seem pretty easy." A quote to go down in the history books in my opinion!
This guy is incredible. I would be curious to know how he escaped when he was being held hostage by the enemies. It's unbelievable how he still alive and well with all the shit he's being through, of course i'm really glad that he's fine. He really is a hero and a badass cause Navy Seals are fucking tough.
he never 'quit' the SEALs and explicitly states that he never quit anything. He stayed active in the SEALs for the rest of his service length even while he still had lower back problems from a broken back and wrist problems from being tortured
I dont think he quit because in his book he talks about going on another mission and his brother was with him on the ending mission. But i'm almost %100 sure he didnt retire right away.
I have an interview in my profile and he says to the reporter that it wasn't his choice to leave the military. Not sure the reason he never mentions why but he makes it clear it wasn't his choice to get out.
It's hart to explain what I'd felt reading your book and finally seeing you for real. As I was reading suffering with you the whole thing, I'd have to stop for seeing your picture, because it's really a miracle all that you passed thrue and still you are alive.
sometimes God give us missions beyond our understanding and in another field different from that one we choosed. Don't be sad Marcus, your dead friends are fine and thankful to you for telling us this valuable and brave real story.GBY
I just finished reading the book last night. What an amazing story of amazing Men. If you get the book, just make sure that when you get to about page 210, don't have any place to go, because you will NOT be able to put the book down until it's finished.
Marcus along with his fellow warriors of team Ten that perished are True American Heroes and should be placed in the history books for young people to admire and aspire. Thanl you Team Ten!
I`m from holland and recalled the day when I heard about the loss of the seal team where Marcus belonged to. I just noticed that Marcus` book came out. So I ordered the book and I`m reading it wright now. I`m amazed about the down to earth kind of way Marcus writes his book.
Marcus last remark wil stay with me all my life i think.
"to fight somebody faght so hard, it makes life seem pretty easy!"
Marcus I feel what you mean, all the way over here in Holland
Matt axleson was my friends mother best friend...I live in the town he lived in and the shut down our whole city for his funeral very sad...Book is very good suggest you should pick it up
If he really is your cousin (you know how some people like to claim to be something they're not) but I just got done reading Marcus' book, and Mike Murphy was as brave as they come. What a badass. Sorry to hear of his loss..
Thank you Marcus! I know you have nightmares about that mission but people like us sleep easy at night because there are men like you who keep us safe! We do appreciate it regardless of the nay sayers and the liberal media. We know who has our backs......!

he never 'quit' the SEALs and explicitly states that he never quit anything. He stayed active in the SEALs for the rest of his service length even while he still had lower back problems from a broken back and wrist problems from being tortured
but he never quit
scarface333666 3 years ago 2
I dont think he quit because in his book he talks about going on another mission and his brother was with him on the ending mission. But i'm almost %100 sure he didnt retire right away.

is he still an active navy seal?

God Bless the Navy SEALS.

Thank God for Marcus because he is telling my cousin story, Mike Murphy. God bless you Marcus and Mike. From Thomas McGarvey.

If he really is your cousin (you know how some people like to claim to be something they're not) but I just got done reading Marcus' book, and Mike Murphy was as brave as they come. What a badass. Sorry to hear of his loss..
