  • Sounds to good to be true, would you ever swap this for Magnum Dynalab's latest and greatest ?

  • @S0lidState It's true! And I don't think I would replace it with anything else. Thanks for your comment!

  • Epale pana!

Saludos!

  • This is one of the best videos on YouTube, by far, in any category.

  • Thank you very much!

  • I too, have a 10b. I also live in San Diego county, in Vista. The sound of the 10b is so nice, and clean, it makes my Sansui TU 717 look sick. Are you a member of audio asylum? Oh, I bought my 10b about 1980 for the princely sum of $25.

  • Yes, I go by the moniker "crooner" at Audio Asylum.

    Great deal on that 10B!

  • Unfortunately I cant find any good stations on my Marantz... all i can find is crappy Rap/Hip Hop and NJ 101.5 which uses horrible compression is just a talk station (On and i have a great antenna too [in fact the entire spectrum is full of stations] its just how NJ is). The AM band is nearly empty too (although im just using the stick antenna at the back that comes with the reciever).

  • You can build your own miniature FM transmitter and relay music and internet radio from your Squeezebox network player for instance...

  • i was on another account (was on a friends without realizing lol) when i said that. The only problem i had with it was the fact that there is no good stations in NJ and the Aux input only gets the right channel sometimes and so I have to turn the selector from and back to it to get the left channel (Which is why I am now using Tape Monitor 1 as my input for my PC). My PC can output 192khz analogue audio with an excellent SNR but i can only find CD quality music on-line.

  • I can't believe how good this sounds even after being converted to digital and uploaded to YouTube. My dad had a 10B decades ago but eventually sold it and replaced it with a Model 150. The 150 was a great tuner but I'm sure nowhere in the ballpark of the 10B. Thanks for the "virtual tour" of the 10B.

  • Thanks for the kind comments. Yes, I was also surprised by how much of the original sonics survived the YouTube compression.

Many 10Bs got traded-in back in the day for solid state gear. But the resale value was very high even then.

  • Just found a 2265B and the quality is great except the volume control is full of dirt and the RCA jacks are quite corroded... looks like it needs some maintenance.

  • Buy a can of Caig Labs Deoxit and clean the RCAs with brasso or a pencil eraser. Good luck!

  • I cleaned the insides with radio-shack spray and now the volume controls work great I figure Ill fix the RCA jacks later since I don't have a cleaner at hand.

  • the audio is great for FM which suffers from the Loudness wars, you should see the quality from a high end FM Transmitter kit lol.

  • Yes, I agree on that. However, the classical and jazz stations use little compression since they are non-profit and do not compete for advertisements.

Do you recommend any particular low power Part 15 FM transmitter worthy of this tuner?

  • Thanks for posting this video! Your 10B is lovely and, even played through my mediocre laptop speakers, sounds darn good. I've had the pleasure of hearing a few 10Bs in good systems, and each time vowed that somehow, some day, I would own one, too. It's funny that, on specs alone, it is not the best performer in any category - even very inexpensive tuners can beat it in one or more parameters - yet, overall, it conveys the heart and soul of music like no other tuner I know. Lucky man! :-)

  • Thanks for your comments. I agree that is one heck of a nice sounding tuner. But the specs are not bad at all. 45 dB stereo separation at 1 kHz for instance. Alternate and adjacent channel selectivity figures are also excellent, in my opinion. But yes, the proof is in the listening and the 10B delivers. Greetings!

  • Phenomenal demonstration of this High End Marantz Tuner which was introduced in late 1964 from my findings in old AUDIO Magazine publications.

    Great Audio Gear Collection!!

  • Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • I have had the dream system (7c, 8b, and 10b) for about a year now. They had been packed away from 1968 to 2005- 37 years. I had brought them back to life for him, and then he passed away and his wife sold me the trio.

Just got through replacing all three of the twist prong can caps yesterday. I replaced 3 of the under chassis electrolytics back in 2005.

Yes, this is a marvelous sounding fm tuner! If you understand RF circuits, it's design is just mind blower.

    Thanks for your video!!

  • Wow! Cool demonstration - thanks for taking the time to do it. Only wish it was out of the rack so you could see all the parts-a-glowing. Looks like you're in a radio market that makes it easier to justify having a 10B - lots of stations, and a little bit of everything. Thanks again!

  • Also, the video could have been clearer, I'm no expert in this area. I did try to get the best audio possible, which is something I do have experience with.

San Diego and LA's radio markets are quite good. You do have your typical clearchannel stuff but also some eclectic choices.

    Thanks for the kind comments!

  • which one is better??this,or the onkyo integra 9090 ??let me know, either way im going to purchase the one you like better

  • Overall, the Marantz is the better tuner, despite the better selectivity of the Onkyo.

If you decide on the Marantz I can give you pointers on what to look for, so you can have a nice reliable unit.

  • so where did you score this baby? and how much did it cost you???

    :)

  • Very well put together video, thanks for posting!

  • You are most welcome!

  • are you using a outdoor antenna to get all those stations or is that how powerful that tuner is?

  • Hi,

Yes, I'm using an outdoor antenna. An APS-9B nine element yagi, about 35 feet above ground. With a regular indoor folded dipole you can receive all the stations in the demo, with slightly less signal strength, except for the fringe stations coming from Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.

A big advantage of the exterior antenna is the ability to reduce multipath significantly by employing the motorized rotator.

    Thanks for your comments!

  • how do you have your indoor dipole antenna set up, can you make a short video of how you set up a dipole antenna, i have a channel master antenna i dont know the model cause its a old vhf antenna but still in good shape with no missing or bent elements that i use for my stereo it pulls in good fm reception

  • I tack mine on the wall (regular cross type folded dipole). You have to experiment with different orientation (or walls) for best results. You are probably better off with that Channel Master even in an attic.

  • Very nice! Great demo.

  • Thank you and Happy New Year!
