02:17 "... 708 hidden power points..." LOL! 708!? How about 5, 10 or even 35 if you want to put up a really big number. But no, 708! Kenshiro admits if you even give him a toe nail, your head will somehow explode.
@theshooter2000 True, Goku would already be dead when he lands the first attack. The only person that can even stand a chance against Kenshiro is Mr. Satan.
wow, the hokuto no ken anime really softened the violence. the manga version of this scene has 0% censoring: the masked guy's head getting cut off is shown completely, spade's arms rip and tear and blood spews out instead of just bending, all the blood is shown when spade explodes, etc.
@Neonwinkles I'm glad to see that other people understand that HnK is primarily a comedy with a little bit of drama thrown in, not the other way around.
@dark7element I wouldn't say that. True it is funny as hell especially if you understand Japanese, but most of the show from the 2nd season onward is high in drama. Practically the entire Souther arc and just about all of HnK2 is drama filled. The Shin arc is top notch comedy though.
@theshooter2000 I don't know about that. Perhaps they're a bit more serious, but both Souther and Raoh had tons of goofy-looking and acting villains-of-the-week serving them. Remember Souther's minion whose tongue was always hanging out? Or Raoh's minion whose martial art was centered around BATHING FREQUENTLY? Or the guy in plate armor who shouts "I'm already dead!" in a ridiculous voice as he explodes? The latter half of the series had no shortage of comical villains who died hilariously.
@dark7element I don't remember Souther's minion, but yes I do remember Raoh's bathing guy, but even that one was somewhat drama filled (sorry I just watched the entire series for the 5th time in about a month so my memory is blurred). Pretty much when Ken goes underground w/Shu til the end of the arc, it's serious. The underlings are funny, but nowhere near the comedy of the Shin arc where damn near every episode had funny dialogue. I thought most of Shura was serious, but Gento had fun moments.
Perhaps you and I have a different view of humor, which makes this argument pointless as it is totally subjective. Even Buronson has said in an interview that the story is downright sad, which I agree with 100%.
@InwardChaos93 No they're not bullet holes but I can see why you'd think that. Look for a clip of Kenshiro fighting Shin. That was the first great rival of the series. Those are scars from finger stabs. Don't wanna ruin it for you, but Shin's style is the opposite of Kenshiro. Instead of hitting pressure points and damaging from the inside out, he stabs and slashes with his hands & feet from the outside.
he even says it a few times, haha. there's a guy who's about to blow up and he's like "help, don't kill me!" and kenshiro is like "i'm sure that's exactly what all the people you killed said before they died" or something to that effect. at first i thought it was a ridiculous, over-the-top, goofy show (and it still is to a degree), but i fell in love with it pretty quickly because kenshiro has absolutely no mercy.
yeah, for some things! these guys are killing whole villages of people and nothing else is going to stop them. there's no legal system, and nobody else is strong enough to take them on, so i say more power to him for wanting to make the world a better place, no matter how he has to do it. they never show remorse for their ways anyway.
well, he does other stuff. one time these guys were making villagers cut off other villagers heads or be killed, and then ken came and killed all but the last guy, who he buried and let the villagers do what they wanted to the guy. and another time this guy was bullying people into giving him food, so ken ruined his muscles so he'd have to work like everyone else. it's not often but he does mix it up sometimes.
@hulkmeister23 Are you fucking kidding me? There's a scene where a fat guy makes an old man get on his hands and knees and drink water off the ground like a dog. The old man hasn't had water in days and if he doesn't drink the water, the fat guy will execute him. Are you telling me Kenshiro is WRONG for killing the bastard? There is no legal system and none of these guys stop their evil ways unless killed. Might makes right in this show.
@theshooter2000 And I agree with you, but there has got to be standards. If we treat the scum of the earth the same way they treat others, then really we're no better than they. In a world so corrupt there has to be those with a moral compass, to prove that we can be better than our enemies, like wut Goku and Superman teach us. Sure he deserved to die, but not like that, because its dangerously walking a line between being an anti hero to becoming a bloodthirsty warlord just like him.
@hulkmeister23 Goku and Superman did not live in a nuclear wasteland. In debates I often tell people Goku wouldn't last in Ken's world even at his level of power because in Ken's world, everyone fights to kill. Ken has a moral compass, he doesn't kill people that don't deserve it. Often he waits til after witnessing a murder to condemn the criminals to hell. Only those that kill innocents. Ken is called the Savior so in a sense he is the moral compass of the world. Cross his laws and you die.
@theshooter2000 Look at the Scorpion King, he lived in a similar society not unlike Ken's world and he went from being an anti-hero to a giant scorpion monster that had to be killed by Brendan Frasier. Cruelty begets cruelty, it corrupts good ppl who think they are doing good. I'm sorry, but though Ken is doing good by killing his foes sometimes it seems he enjoys it; should you enjoy killing anyone, even if they're evil? It'll warp your soul. I say kill em quick and be done with it.
@mooseymoo Back then it was harder to draw cartoons. Maybe its there to bring variety to his talking loop (so they wont have to make him move or change the perspective as he speaks) or then his mouth movement can't be looped straight so they had to put those close ups inbetween.
You know Ken did all that axe kicking and pulling just because he was bored. He could have yanked both guys into each other and blown them up, or spun them into the stratoshpere. He just wanted to be really bad ass by killing a guy by ridirecting a flying axe (which would be so horrendously difficult).
Ken only ever uses any of this crap because he doesn't like repeating any moves. And just liquifying everyone with his super strength gets boring.
This makes no sense. If it took 7 seconds for Spade to die, why does the "clock" (that strangely only shows up in the early episodes of Hokuto no Ken) start counting from 63, really REALLY fast?
Please pardon my comment. I didn't mean to say that anime has gone completely soft, just to the point where the only real violent animes are usually underground, and I don't like scavenging for them.
