Since Tchaikovsky used the Russian Orthodox hymn "God Preserve Thy People" at the beginning, Russian folk songs throughout, and "God Save the Czar" at the end, it is only natural that a version with chorus should be used (Very effectively I might add).

@mm1232akaknight Yes it is. It was actually included in the piece by Tschaikovsky himself. The ouverture celebrates the defense of Moscow by the French invasion of the Napoleonic troups. You hear the charge of the French through the Marseillaise and the Russian counterstrike through the final cannon shots and the march.
