I remember Al DiMeola (Berklee graduate) saying, just out of school (this was back in the '70s), he'd try to play Hendrix or Clapton riffs, but that it just came out sounding kinda like someone playing scales. I say the knowledge is good. Use it, but on some level kinda put it in the back of your brain, otherwise you're gonna play more like a mathematician than an artist.

um, give the kid a break. He's only into what most kids are in their late teens, early 20s. At least he's not just playing "Guitar Hero" or "Rock Band" on a video game. He's got plenty of time to discover the great players and that guitar playing isn't an athletic event. Kid, if you want to learn to play great rock guitar, listen to David Gilmour - the guy NEVER overplays, knows just where and how to tastefully enhance an entire track, and can blow you away with just a few well-played notes!

BTW if you think your equipment is cheap, I currently have a nameless Stagg so cheap that if I barely push down on the tremolo it untunes :( & along with the worlds smallest amp (a Yamaha) but one day ima get me a PRS Santana Multidimensional

as far as the added stuff i didn't know what you meant, so i'm glad you explained to me now. on the recording and also on the lives eddie is using a strat and his tremolo a lot! an epi les paul doesn't have a tremolo so i had to add other stuff to compensate for the missing tremolo... in addition that's a solo and solos are meant to be improvisations!
