  • England had The Beatles, America had The Beach Boys..both great gifts to the music world, in my humble opinion..but what do i know ?..i've only been a sound engineer and professional studio and gigging drummer for only 20 yrs.. ;)

  • a guy i used to work with told us he only shows emotion when hes alone and as you may imagine he got a lot of jokes about it and this song came up quite a few times

  • Compared to the frankly dopey and dumb stuff that the Beatles were doing at the time, this song seems even more historic and great.

  • How great is it that yesterday they announced that all of the surviving original Beach Boys, including David Marks, are going to reunite and record and 50th anniversary album, and go on tour. I am so stoked!

  • Just perfect nothing more can be said.

  • Just the best group ever. I don't think this can ever be improved on. Saw them live in the sixtie's in Southampton UK. Just WOW.

  • Happy Feet !!!! In shool music.

  • @galadria44 That was the reason I was looking for this song. Lol.

  • I will never forget when I went to go see The Beach Boys in Tulsa, Oklahoma back in 1996.

  • Everybody has their opinion.....but "In My Room", "Warmth of the Sun"...and "God Only Knows" are probably my three favorite (and arguably best) Beach Boys "ballads".....wow, an awesome three

  • Ugh. Even when I purposely avoid crappy new music and search the internet for oldies, I have to watch some stupid-arse Mary J. Blige ad before I can hear The Beach Boys. What the heck people.

  • How the fuck can Scott Walker just sit there and lie to your face with that straight face of his, what a fuck face!

  • Uh huh, well I only play that game like once a week cos I was pretty good at it I made a video. So yeah, don't just assume that I no life it after 1 vid.

  • Beach Boys are amazing :) love them.

  • doin this for acapella at school

  • @bassthump1111 keepin' the harmony alive

  • Terrible y the hell did my teacher make me listen to this shit??

  • @XxLinguinexXPwnzXx

In an attempt to educate you I would guess.

  • @XxLinguinexXPwnzXx because there is more to music than guitar hero

  • This is such a tune

  • slideshow is too frikkin fast!!!

  • >greatest ballad

except maybe the entire Pet Sounds album.

  • @mothafuckajones666 >2011

    >greentext on youtube

  • @ifhgsfj

because quotation marks are now archaic

  • Kakariko Village?

  • @elysium735

    omg yes!! :O

  • @dylanparker72

I totally agree; it's just magical!

  • I like how the Kakariko Village theme in Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past totally sounds like the opening guitar riff in this song.

  • that harp flourish... very fifties. was it blocked from the rest of the song?

  • Where can I find free piano notes????

  • best thing ever made god

    1. beach boys

    2.muscle cars

    3. the 60s!!!!!1(except vietnam war)

    4. stuiped 2000 no muscle cars all forgin made and slow crap

  • great song ,great harmonies wow factor 11

  • magical

  • I just love the singing in this song!

  • Just a little f.y.i...The Beach Boys Today came out AFTER their Christmas album. Also, you left out The Beach Boys Concert and The Beach Boys Party albums. Aside from all that, great slideshow!

  • Im tired of the "today music´s blablabla¨coments. I love Beatles, Beach Boys, Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, the stones etc. But in the 90´s and 00´s, came up bands like Radiohead, The Mars Volta, Nirvana, MGMT, The Strokes, Keane, Coldplay. Just enjoy music, dont compare it.

  • i would love to see them with their "Children" & "Grand Children"

Now That Would Be A Picture!!

  • First song that actually made me excited about singing in chorus in high school!

Was kinda sissy in those days, BUT, it was a darn good training course to open your ears and mind to the dynamics of harmony! And to actually train the ear (mind) ! And actually, one of the first chords I learned on guitar!

Atfer 40 years of playing, and singing, I still look back at these basics! Nice to hear the GOOD postings here! Thanks!

  • only one member of the group actually surfed, i find that really weird

  • What a group of talented singers to bring this song together ! Perfect.

  • Who also looked this up because of NintendoCapriSun?!

  • WHOOP-WHOOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yep

  • 7 people do not have their own room.

  • lol I am 17 years old and I love the beach boys. All this crap on the radio now is a bunch of untalented wacks.

  • I think 7 people need to go to their room

  • Decorating my room while the song is playing.

  • Spent many a days in my room listening to the Beach Boys Concert album and this song is still my favorite.

  • Thumbs up for Al Jardine subliminal message

  • They don't make songs like they use to. The stuff today is pathetic and filty. This is real music.

  • @foreverinchrist1 you are so right! it's sad but at least we have some bands to thank for giving us great music.

  • @phoenixstarr512 So true my friend.

  • @phoenixstarr512 As a musician myself I hate what has happened to our society. There was a time when music ment something. Now all our society want is this flity music that protrays violence and drugs, and we think that is hip! Pitty! My band records on an independent label because it is hard to get your music heard by the established record companies. If I was doing filty music I could easily get a contract.

  • Thank you SO much for not including Summer in Paradise. That album is absolutely terrible.

  • evry time i listen to this song i cry!

  • the greatest american band ever.

  • My mom likes this song.

    I like it a bit. ;)

  • wonderful harmonies!!! And say what you like, but Backstreet Boys have the same singing skills as these guys did.

    tac

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • Best Coast's version is so much cooler

  • @somekidfromtexas haha not really

  • Awesome video, timeless music from America's greatest band....thanks for posting!!!

  • Aw man, I feel stupid. I thought this was first sung on Happy Feet. I obviously need more exposure.

  • What heartless soul couldn't like this song, 7 people are sad and lonely souls

  • Do my masterbating in my room

  • WASN'T BRIAN WILSON REALLY DEPRESSED WHEN HE WROTE THIS SONG,IT GOES TO SHOW THAT EVEN MONEY AND FAME CAN'T ALWAYS MAKE US HAPPY!

  • @sullivan884

Yes he had a lot of emotinal problems and demons but through his music recorded so many beautiful harmonies and melodies.

  • @Purple1984Rain Brian Wilson had manic depressive. Alot of his songs were the result of the mood swings and the angst of being a lover and a sensitive soul in a sometimes heartless world. This song still strikes the heart strings in alot of young people and older people (like me...mid 50s)

  • 6 people were locked in their room.

  • WOW! I was 15 in 1963 when I first heard this song. I immediately bought the disc, my first one of The Beach Boys. Nearly 50 years later I'm still in love with it and The Beach Boys of course. They will never be replaced. They are unique. Greetings from Switzerland to all my American friends. Thanks a lot for posting this. I wish I could go back to the 60s.

  • @ForEverGilda

    so do I.....so do I

  • @ForEverGilda there were no disks in the 60's......

  • @liamrocksmysockstm

You're perfectly right. I meant "record" of course.

  • Whichever room, in whichever Country you spent/spend alone in.....this is dedicated to YOU, peace

  • one of my favorite songs by them ! ... I was lucky enough to see Brian sing this with Jimmy Buffet at Irvine Meadows in the 90's ... AMAZING

  • What a ballad, it doesn't get any better!!!!!!

  • @danhofstra I'm sure Glen Cambell began touring as a Beach Boy in '64 - '65. He recorded "Wichita Lineman" in '66 which was RE-released in '68(?) after "Gentle On My Mind" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" established Glen as a solid star. '69 saw "The Glen Cambell Goodtime Hour" with the iconic, high pitched "Howdy I'm Glen Cambell" starting the show. Brian retreated more into the studio - then into his room.

  • LVHS, YES!! 1977 the Daughter Grad ,2011 I Knew it Tim,DJV. Call Me,

  • brian go in your room andhave a long talk with yourself and decide how u will get rid of your ugly slimmy sneaky money hungrey wife.cmon Bri shes been using u for your money long enough.

  • @danhofstra Where was Al Jardine during this? If I remember my "Beach Boys Myths" correctly, wasn't this song signalling the beginning of Brian Wilson's meltdown and self exile? I seem to remember Glen Cambell replacing Brian for at least one tour around this time. This song and "I Can Hear Music" are my two most favorite songs in the universe!!!! Thank-you!!!!

  • @burkeshaw I don't think Al joined until later in 1963 or early 1964. As for Brian's meltdown and self-exile, that was 1967.

  • This music is fucking awesome!

    =D

  • wow, finally a Beach Boys song in HQ.... Thanks..

  • guess whos in their room:) me!

  • played my brothers "all summer long" album ........ all freakin summer long ..... oh, spring, summer and winter too. the good old days are long gone. hope the kids today can get their act together and salvage some good old days for them to reminisce. cross your fingers!

  • The harmonies...they're like a "sonic hug".

  • swampy!

  • Laugh at yesterday!

  • Great song, but the slides in this clip are fading in and out too fast for my taste!

  • I need my Room :)

  • Has anyone else been able to equal not only the vocal quality overall - with EVERY voice complimenting, but also the lyrics - everyday thoughts and feelings that all young people had and still have! Also you realize this is done without the new fangled instrumentation - this was REAL!!! Gypsy girl

  • great song pick and pics but they were going back a little to fast to be able to get a good look at them.

  • The quintessential teenager song.

  • @deedeelight5 well maybe a teenager song for the 60s, now it's a song for 20somethings and maybe even 30 somethings who knows

  • Love it!

  • get that porno out from under your mattress

  • I'd get laid to this. xD

  • how can it be stolen from manson this was years years before he came into dennis wilson life

  • one of my many favs

  • Written by Brian Wilson(of course) and Gary Usher. What a beautiful and UNIVERSAL teen angst song.

  • This, my friends, is good music from the music Lord himself. All who listen is hereby blessed and therefore closer to His love and happiness. In other words, this music kick your and my ass and we all love it. Haha! Enjoy.

  • I like to think as this as the Beach Boy's "Yesterday"

  • @beef4uandme

well, i don't think it sounds sad enough for yesterday.

but it's one of my favorites of them.

what the beatles in my life is for me is the beach boys god only knows also for me.

  • Jesus... this is truly a beautiful piece of music...

  • These guys were my favorite band even before I turned one year old. My mom and dad always told me that my first words were "Ba, ba, ba ba, ba, ba" as I was trying to sing Barbara Ann.

  • These guys make me proud to be a californian

  • Just spent the past 10 days songwriting in preparation for studio. In emerging from that cognitive constipation, this song came to me for some reason.

  • I suddenly understand all the songs from these guys reading Brians Autobiography :)

  • I was 13. 'Nuff said.

  • This is from the era when music groups could actually write and sing and play.

  • @iamtoothewalrus there's plenty of groups today that can "actually write and sing and play." jesus.

  • @MegaMytube99 ,, not even close

  • @iamtoothewalrus The sadest thing is that there are still musucally talented people and bands out there but the music industry has become a corperate money making machine that creates celebrities out of relatively talentless hacks and gives no support to the true talents that are out there.

  • @Stiletos One interesting fact is there are NO music executives left who actually have a background in music! All music executives are finance people, not artists - this was noted in an article a few years ago discussing the downfall of modern music.

The same thing happened at General Motors in the early 1960s, executives use to be ex-car designers, but in the early 60's, executive started coming from the accounting dept.

  • @iamtoothewalrus That does not surprise me but it is so freaking sad. The movie "Josey and the Pussycats" is a little known film that captures the idiocy of todays media perfectly.

  • *generic comment about listening to this over and over in my room*

  • These guys are the best, hands down!!!

  • I'm singing this as a balade For my singing dance group in my high school

  • i have always thought that dennis was not only super talented, but dashing. may he rest in peace <3

  • Oh, Dennis and Carl... =(

  • OMG I thought this song was about wanking off.

  • My favorite Beach Boys song, followed by Wouldn't it Be Nice and God only Knows. So beautiful and relate-able to me :)

  • Excellent!!!!

  • easily the best song to listen to when youre feeling insular & lonely. brian wilson is the greatest song writer of all time. the beatles may be the best band. but brian is the best song writer. no one comes close in my opinion

  • @BonzaiBillie1

Brian and Lennon/McCartney, nobody else ever reached those levels.

But Mike's charming and 'hip' lyrics where also good for their early stuff, and we shouldn't forget who had the idea for the good vibrations chorus, mike had something going on in him for music, but he's just such a dick.

  • @BonzaiBillie1 Brian was mostly the arrangement composer, not the lyricist. That was Mike for most of the early years, Tony Asher during Pet Sounds and Van Dyke Parks during the Smile era.

  • This song is about jerking off in your bedroom.

  • I love everything and anything Beach Boys

  • On family road trips it was Motown and the Beach Boys. Inexplicable

  • Teenage angst at it's best. No one could do t like the inimitable Brian Wilson!

  • @jimidee33 i think kurt cobain did teen angst a little better...

  • @theseer27 Different era, different values.

  • @jimidee33 differant is putting it mildly , . . .

  • whos @1:24??

  • @kimmiewimmietimmie That's Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar, who were members from 1972-1973, contributing to "Carl & The Passions", "Holland" and "The Beach Boys In Concert"

  • @danhofstra okay. thanks(:

  • Acapella version is the best, willl track it down

  • Sweet Harmony!!

I was really hoping to hear this song in the Acapella version.. I heard it once on the radio decades ago and can't find it anywhere... :-(

  • I use to clean and organize my disastrous room to this song. It made me appreciate my room and mom a lot more once everything wassparkling clean. Everything got real quiet...no more nagging!

  • @xynzee50 That's rather a nice memory to share ^_^

  • I love this song! It is so relaxing, and it relates to me right now. I am a teenager and this song just takes me away from relationships, pressure, and takes me to relaxation. If all teenagers listened to this song we would have a much better society.

  • @Frankiew91 i completely agree with you. i was a teenager in the 70's. long time ago wish i could go back love the beach boys especially brian wilson. but u r right more teenagers should get into this music. have a good day. take life easy. fran

  • @Frankiew91 I agree, mate. Im now 34, and i still feel the same way. Your a cool cool kid, and I wish you well, now and always.xx

  • @Frankiew91 Wish my rebellious 16 year old daughter would take a liking to the Beach Boys. They are always played in my car in remembrance of my dad who died in 2007. He raised me on them....Brian Wilson certainly gives a true respective of what life should be like.

  • I blaze up in my room!!

  • HAPPY FEET~:)

  • One of my early teen memories is The Beach Boys lip-syncing this song on The Red Skelton Show in 1964(?). As the middle child between 2 sisters and no brothers...this became a special song for me.

  • i love this song !!! its sooo good

  • I used to listen to this 45 RPM in my room, over and over. My mom was very abusive and listning to the Beach Boys song would help me deal with the abuse. Thanks guys for knowing what it felt like.

  • @charmindarlin WOW! I'm sorry to hear that. My room is where I go to get some "me" time and tell my secrets to.

  • @charmindarlin so sorry......music helps us through just about anything hope you are ok now

  • @charmindarlin

been there, lived that, all the best to you.

    Higher Power got me thru.

  • @charmindarlin that is so beautiful! I am so glad you found solace in the beach boys. I am only 18 years old but the Beach Boys are my favorite band.

  • @JackAustinFilms Thanks for the lovely words. There were so many Beach Boys songs that have a special meaning to just about everyone.

  • @charmindarlin That's deep and moving how you said that.

  • @charmindarlin I'm old now I still havent found the love of my life. Recently went through the emotional, financial meltdowns that is sometimes called misfortune, and others call it FATE. I am a musician...this song is all I have now. Playing this song sometimes at 3am in the morning. In ones deep despair sometimes these songs take on a life of their own. I winded up moving back home. My dad is still very abusive and well this song has been there all along. hope things get better

  • @batfroman You have the world. You are a speck of dust in the universe. But right now, you're alive, somehow. Inexplicably. Live. Do what makes you and others happy.

  • It's eerie to listen to this song knowing that a few years later, Brian Wilson would slip into depression...alone in his room using drugs...

  • @Cath0deRayTube Its just my opinion, but thats what makes it so special. Its real.

  • dan,

Thank you for posting a great audio quality for a very underrated Beach Boys song.

  • fuck isnt Carl just the daggiest fat putz,,,,got better with age ,,and just for the record Wild Man Fischer's version is far better....

  • This song made Liszt, Beethoven and Pergolesi jealous.

  • Lesson #1 on how to sing harmonies: LISTEN!!!!!!!

  • my favorite beach boys song

  • I've asked for this to be my funeral song, as it's gave me such strength in many ways when I feel like giving up!

  • To My Three Little Sweeties: What would Dad think of what you're doing? You don't want to hang out In Your Room do you? This song reminds me of when you were little and misbehaved. I used to say this was your favorite song! REMEMBER??? I love you, Dad XO

  • ZZZZZZZZZ

  • 5 guys prefer Justin Bieber

  • Wow....Brian must have known that the opening chords would be a cliche....I would guess it was his homage to the doo wop sounds of the 50's to early 60's.....then when the melody and harmonies kicks in--holy shit....you know that this is something unique and special.

  • So true - : )

  • Yeah, I agree; that LP was great. I bought it along with a couple 1-2 anthologies, cause it's got some gems on it, and in the context of the whole LP and it's time era in their lives. I love the guitar on this too, it's not ( ei chuck berry shuffle) rock, it's more pop/soul with those gentle arpeggios doing a gentle harmony background under their fantastic vocal arrangement! It suites the ballad genre and feel o fthe song. Nice still photos of Brian. Thx ,man. :)

  • QUE GRANDES ERAIS , SEGUIREIS SIENDO LOS MEJORES SIEMPRE

  • Brian looks gorgeous at 2:03

  • great just perfect lol
