..if this would has happened to a black-90-year-old man, he would not has got that job...why so much compassion with these people..I am so happy that Bernie tricked his own people...it is all in the name..!
whats the big deal / good he is back to work ,well done,.....however at his age I would have thought after all his years in buisness ,he should have known there is not such a thing as a free lunch when putting all his bucks into Madoff ..anyone who is not blinded by greed would have worked that out..
This job could have gone to someone in need with a life and family in desperate need. There is no reason for this man to be alive and not in a home. HE LIVED ALREADY. He is just taking up space and wasting a job that could go to someone who not only needs it more but can do it more efficiently. I hate to sound cruel but this is the reality of life. With all other species those who are old burdens are left to die so the next generation can prosper.
Just like Madoff all of these greedy fools wanted EVERYTHING for NOTHING. I have ZERO sympathy for this moron. Before he started working again and actually contributing to society, I would have rather he just die and step aside for people with life. My grandfather is 83. He has millions and still works and donates in order to contribute; not be a leach on backs of people trying to provide for their families. This greedy "victims" lived lavishly without working or giving anything back. KARMA
I am the most angriest person alive. I lost alot of money. I invested my life's saving with that evil man. now I have nothing in the bank. I gave Madoff all my money. I sent that idiot a $250 check to invest, hoping to tripple my investment. Now I have nothing. I'm on welfare. I live in a one room shack. Now I ride my bike to work. I lose my only true friend, my pet fish. Darn it. that Madoff took everything I had.
when obama was elected, congress bailed out GM and Major Banks, how many people got mega-rich on that bail out? when is the government going to bail out these poor people that got ripped off by madoff the scumbag? where is their money? where is their money? why do the banks get bailed out for lending money to people who they knew could never pay it back? and why doesn't the government pay these people back since the government governs NASDAQ ??? because they won't make money, that's why.
off course they dont have time to fell sorry for themselves becauee they fell guilty of been hungry money mf ers like madoff himself nobody is inoent in this case
i have 0 sympathy for the "victims" who are only now crying foul. where were they when they were receiving statements indicating that they were getting 20%-30% increases on their money. They must have known something shady was going on but since they were MAKING money, they didnt make a peep. Wasnt until they began losing money did you hear their crys. Typical jew behavior. Always want to be considered the victim.
really sad ppl dont understand their lifes will end someday, they save and when they get to 70 they didnt lived live they lived a job and then they dont evemn know how to live he was thinkinfg about his future... sounds stupid but it can only by that, maddoff was thinking about now, spending money
oh, schizophrenia is a premature dementia that the younger brain is able to handle. It just causes us to lose cognitive ability. It ends our normal careers and due to its widespread victim range, a lot of people probably just didn't want to accept their new minds and had enough funds to get lawyers and broke their fellows of institutions. It doesn't stop us from being philosophical janitors. Prior to interference, my body was fine, but now I'm weak.
you guys are going to at least let me try these stem cells. All I need is that replacement protein and I'm hoping that a new population of cells will do but I might have to go back. I'll probably never have emotions again, however. At least I have a content feeling. 8 months of brain burning and no feelings. There is nothing worse than that. You guys have found a new form of torture with me and that's about it. Never forgive.
I was trying to get in on thirsty camel by going there all of the time but as usual the watchers fucked that up. Yes, I was damaged but I am still young. Now I'm like uber jacked up. Unless you let me open a stand somewhere, I won't be able to handle work. They won't hire me though because only housewives get to sit in shops, not ugly workers such as myself. You guys have made schizophrenia a disability. It's not. Look at the world's schizophrenics.
at least you're in good health. They wont guilt me unless they plan on fixing me. I've given up due to these stupid arguments several times, and it won't happen again. I'm trying to have stem cells shot up my nose to improve stamina and memory. I might have to go on anti-seizure medication as well because they're bad at night. But part of me thinks they're supposed to be even though I think I'm dying during them.
If I hadn't spent 2 yrs at Merrill getting insulted, belittled, delayed, sent on wild goose chases and runarounds, lied to, criminalized, and even threatenend by people I was trying to help, I might sympathize. There are hordes of qualified, supervised, loyal, honest, educated, studious, clean, caring family oriented people out there just like me that never broke the law and are just trying to make a living that would have been THRILLED to help this man find out the truth about his investments.
Sir, if you have 700,000 and you're 90 why not just buy treasury bonds and CD's? The first rule is never take more risk than you absolutely have to. Was it greed? And why are you 90 and still have a mortgage? What's the story there? Money without judgement is more useless than shit. At least you can fertilize plants with shit. Sorry guys, I have absolutely no sympathy or respect for this man.
@Bill1275w Well you spread your investments to lower risk and you only invest what you're prepared to lose but you have to have some sympathy for these people because they didn't know they were investing in ponzi scheme
@begood20000 If you knew how many old rich guys told me, "Why listen to you about bonds and China? I grew up with a guy who knows a guy that says he can guarantee (insert number)%. Or better yet, "I'm going to stick with my real estate." Here's another one. " I'm losing my life savings, so I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing." Uhh sir WTF!!! When somebody says "guarantee" in this industry or makes projections over 10% (5% at or near retirement), don't give them your money, call the cops!
That's why you get advice from a registered financial advisor with a firm you've heard of, not your lawyer. Never plan for avg return over 10% /yr. Never work with an advisor that says "I guarantee". I pulled 12 hr days at Merrill for 2 yrs, was recognized for my hard work by my local director and got many meetings, but because I wouldn't lie like others about guarantees and gains, sales were too low. I resigned. Now I'm going into law enforcement where my honesty and charachter counts.
Your quite a inspiration Mr Ian. I applaud you for your courage and determination to get up and continue living life in your advance age. Very few people today will do this. I think I'll have that soup now. :-)
@MaryTheresa1986 I think you are better off giving that money to starving children in third world countries who weren't so stupid as to give their life savings to one man. This guy already lived. Why don't you give your money to someone with a chance and help a country prosper instead of some old bag who is merely taking up space. The fact that you would even make a suggestion like that without considering the more obvious and worthwhile alternative is just pathetic. This man is NOT a victim.
WAS THIS A PONZI SCHEME???? What a shame...God Bless You! My heart goes out to you. I personally know of a criminal who did this to good people like yourself. Prison is where he will go & all evil gets theirs in the end. God will see to that. They have a black soul. You have a good heart. : )
Bernie Madoff is a hero. The rich steal from the poor. He stole from the rich and spent the money himself. Still a hero.........<-- my previous post <-- okay, so this one didn't quite work out like the others. This old man in the video knows the meaning of life and didn't kill himself. Fine, Madoff still taught the others a lesson in greed.
@kingofwaverly You are Wrong !!!! Madoff is a hero. By definition a hero does not necessarily halfto be a person. It could be the act of the person. For example...Alexander the Great is a hero to some and a demon to others yet he is a historical hero never-the-less. Did you know that Alexander was a General and he and his troops KILLED many people? To those he KILLED, they do not think that he is a hero.
@kingofwaverly If or when one day you find yourself without means, money and homeless you will understand why some people regard him as a HERO. I've all been through that myself. The world is much more complex than we all imagine and is is by no means meant to be what we THINK is should be. Just remember my little one.....you should never hate someone because they are a villian or regarded as a villian, there is a reason for his existence just as much as there is a reason for yours.
@joseftran Lately, the reason a lot of people are without means, money, and homeless is because of people like Madoff. And it's not just the "fools" who invested . What do you mean I should never hate someone for being a villain? Should I canonize Ted Bundy for killing all those women? Or Hitler for killing Jews? The only real reason for Bundy or Hitler or Madoff is to show people what NOT to become?
@kingofwaverly I disagree .... ALL people should be respected even Hitler for killing Jews. There is a very good reason why we need men of evil. It is simply because the world is that way and there can be no such thing as good alone. They are the balancers of the world. For every good there must be a counter evil. For example...if you are happy then someone needs to be miserable to make you happy. Think about it... can everyone be masters and no slaves?
@joseftran That is no excuse for Madoff or your defense of him. He is a weak man and a coward for giving in to his baser instinct of greed. The problem with that line of thinking is that some people use it as a carte blanche to live without morals. Madoff might as well be a monkey flinging crap and jacking off in plain view of everyone for all the good he is.
@kingofwaverly You are terribly mistaken. He is like GOD walking the earth. Do you know how hard it is to swindle those rich people? He made it look like 4th grade french ! I admire him soo much. Fantastic ! If only I had a mind of mastery like him. I say set him free so the world can enjoy more of his terrific dramas. I wonder what he'll think of NEXT ! To me he's like any other celebrity. We follow them because it makes life exciting even if they did drugs like Lindsey Lohan !
:))funny..ppl deserve to fuk in usa..they r still sleeping..one day they wake up and they understand what is corruption..system fully corrupt here by jews..
Hedge funds are really really risky. It is a shame this guy has to go back to work at this age, but I mean, putting your life savings in a hedge fund? That is a little irrational. I guess no one explained to him the importance of diversification. His investment adviser is just as much at fault as Madoff.
i give this dude 5 years before he drops dead. go on welfare, live in a retirement home and stop crying. your wife is dying go be with your wife. stop going on tv with this nonsense when your greed played a big part of the reason why your money is gone. people get scam on ebay, craigslist, even in the fucking lotto. yet they seem to move on. they took the risk and if got scam so be it. remember people no one put a gun to this old fucks head. this aint the nazis era.
I LOVE THAT GUY...HE CARRIED THOSE MUTHERFUKERS FOR 20YRS..IM GLAD BERNARD TOOK ALL THERE FUKIN MONEY THOSE GREEDY BASTARDS..I CAN AUSRE YOU THAT ALL THOSE GREEDY BASTARDS THAT BERNARD TOOK FROM..THEY WERE ALL SELFISH AND FOR THAT, THATS WHAT THEY GET. GREAT JOB BERNARD
@1:35 - "Tearman says he has little time to dwell on the man responsible for his crisis.. " "i feel sorry for him.." I like that statement... VERY good...."he'll spend no time feeling sorry for himself" ----very very good!
Like I have posted in the past.......this guy is an idiot. He had 700,000 IN CASH and never paid his mortgage off? $700,000 in cash would have been enough money to last him and his wife for the rest of their life at $70,000 per year. Did he think he was going to live forever and needed 12% annually so he could live in extreme comfort till he was 125 years old? What is the life expectancy of a 90 year old anyway.....20 minutes?
@inkey2 my dude and the fuck has to work to pay the bills....exactly these dumb ass shits think they are going to live to see 130 years old. my cat lives longer than these fuck. gave up 700k to get 700 million. jeez. i give madoff credit he pick the right motherfuckers to scams lol i love this dude working at the store lmfaooo
@mrman3810 yeah, I learned my lesson years ago....I had some money invested in a private company a friends family owned. I was getting great interest. A year later the owner just "drops dead" and there was a big family feud over all his money.....i was really sweating it out. Eventually I got my money back....lucky for me. I would rather lose my money very slowly to inflation than immediately to some risky, high yield scam
@inkey2 its a good lesson you learned my friend u are right. i would rather lose my money thru inflation too instead of taking risky high yield scams like this . jeez people stop crying for this 90 year old man who dying wife is already lived the life and they were just greedy who gives up 700k to a madoff finder fund. jeez. there had to be red flags during that time period but they didnt care. victims are so busy about money and not about justice
@inkey2 -- LOL! very good post. Well, i wouldn't have called the guy an idiot.. but i DEFINATELY would have said... he wasn't as wise as he should have been.
@inkey2 - You are absolutely right. Ok, that was their money, legally earned and in a way it's their own business how to use it, save it, and spend it. But there is noe tiny mistake he did. It is called GREED.
Poor old man...I don't give a shit about those people who lost millions and billions of dollars because they were rich idiots who had enough money to waste but I feel sorry for small-time people like this man. Worked and saved his whole life but lost it all in a scheme. For this alone I hope Madoff is in a cold dark prison cell with a big horny black guy. That prick needs to suffer the kind of pain hard-working folks had to suffer when they lost everything.
ian...you gave up 700k to live big no disrespect but no one put a gun to your head. so you will live in the projects and get food stamps and your wife will be on medicare which means she will be dead in a week. but the point is that you gamble the money, madoff was a genius in tricking you to believe that he was going to make billions. so my dude... ask ron your boss to give you a fucking chair. at least they give chairs to those handicapped bitches. pimp your wife she got some big tits.
Thats what you get for trusting your money to a Jew...I make sure that my money is out of their filthy hands...they have proven time and again that they can't be trusted. And we need to start calling a spade a spade. I am pretty sure that that cunt Yenta wife of Bernie's is not working for 10 bucks a day. That fucking cunt made sure that she funneled enough money into offshore bank accounts to make sure that that fucking cunt lives in the lap of luxury for the rest of her life. DON'T TRUST JEWS.
@ttiger5050 Shut your fucking mouth you ignorant fuck. This has absolutely nothing to do with Madoff's religion, race, or background. There are FAR more crooks who have conducted Ponzi schemes that weren't Jewish in comparison to those who are. Keep your mouth shut you fucking anti-semetic piece of shit.
Wow..I wonder how the people that got fucked out of their life's savings feel about you defending the filthy money grubbing usurping Jews. Ironically this is exactly what Hitler tried to warn the rest of the world about. The Jews were doing the same thing to German "Goyim" and he finally mobilized people that were already pissed off that the Jew had raped the German economy and ripped off ordinary citizens with outrageous bank fees and dissolving the middle class. Filthy Jews
All of the major ponzi schemes were run by Jews..EVERY SINGLE ONE. Now your fucking "tribe" has rolled out the fucking hooknose scheme of all ripoffs. Carbon offsets..what a godamn crock of shit! And it is just another system of fucking the Goyim and get people to invest more money on fictitious value that is completely fabricated. Just like they artificially inflate the price of diamonds and they don't tell the world they are no longer rare stones..and they use salve labor!!
@ttiger5050 Funny you mention this. I have been telling people for 20 years that diamonds are the biggest scam going. There are so many diamonds (still under the ground and easily accessable.....not like drilling for oil) that they are virtually worthless. When I got engaged/married I bought my wife the cheapest crap diamond ring I could find....I wasn't falling for that shit....we put the money into a house instead
Financial advisors, stock markets, blah blah blah. Whatever happened to save your money and live within your means? My parents raised a family and they didn't have to go to any financial advisors. They simply worked and saved. Perhaps such a simple solution is too mind boggling for most people.
@PungiFungi : one of the reasons that financial advisors are far more important today than many years ago is because people are living much longer today. It is not unusual at all now for people to "out live their savings and income". When social security was instituted during President Rosevelts administration they were not expected to live much longer than 65
thiermanns, you are a the true americans..even tough what happened to you, you can still smile. thats the spriti and thats why your nation once was the wonderful place it used to be.
what bugs me is, how on earth such a wealthy nation tolerates having their senior citizens being put into that strain. ?
As the way of all things, what effect do you suppose its question, knowledge, understanding and application by billions of persons will have on the state of global economics, science, the humanities, education, government and business?
.
The underlying law of nature is the most important subject any person can investigate and learn about, can proceed to understand, and can then come to personally apply in life.
One fraudster is better than 13 000 of'em. The average money they gave to this convex headed bastard is 5million$ each- based on 65blln/nine zeros/
Sou you tell me they had 5 million to give it to 'bestbrokeronwallstreet" I should deplore them cos they have to rake the leaves in the garden, e? They have big loss sure! I'd be pissed off too. But! None of'em is starvin I tell ya.Madoff is a criminal, but at least didn'shoot someone for 20 bucks. He just stole from thiefs!
@berkowitz38 N0,The moral of th story is to not invest in the stock market, keep your money in a pillowcase and buy gold and silver to preserve your wealth.THe stock market is the biggest scam on earth. If you or i sold something that we didn't own we'd be put in jail. The fatcat crimals on Wall st (JIM CRAMER) do it all the time and name it futures contacts. Their ittle sham is over, more and more people are waking up
@freebird0147 Here is the problem.......for many, many years the only way to make enough interest on your savings (money market funds) to survive through your elderly years was the stock market. ....BUT.....now that is all history. People are (and should) learn from this to keep much of their cash in safe hard assets and "live way below your means"
So sad, but how wonderful is it that the grocery store owner created a job for him!! Treat others well throughout your life, and you never know who will help you when you REALLY Need it!
There's a couple of very valuable lessons to learn from this .. build your wealth slowly over time ( spend some of it too incase you die early ! ) & the last lesson
MASSIVE DIVERSIFICATION
I'll repeat that incase anyone missed it
MASSIVE DIVERSIFICATION !
Split that money up into many different pockets , stocks , savings , home , wine , business etc etc etc
They need to stip that yenta cunt Ruth Madoff and stip her down to her fucking underwear to pay people like this man and other innocent investors that have lost everything. And then they should strap her fucking flabby Jew ass into a godamn rocking chair and let this guy whale on her until her fucking false teeth shatter and she shits her depends. If it was my family that they reipped off (Cmon Ruth knew exactly what the fuck was going on) I would have served them my own form of justice.assholes
filthy old guy has been rich forever. It's time he does real work instead of trading with other people's labor. When you look into the abyss is when you find your character or something like that.
@Microglia1 rich guy??? wtf is wrong with you he saved 700k over a lifetime, thats hardly rich, hes worked hard to get that money, most people who do have money work for it. its the super rich that barely do squat but destroy economies, this guy is upper middle class.
I agree with you. However, You have to consider that although this man is very diligent and determined, it was entirely foolish and greedy to invest his life saving with one person. People are aware that it is a risk even if they are naive and completely unaware that ponzi schemes exist. In that respect It is hard to feel sympathy for him. On the other hand, watching a 90 year old man work breaks my heart.
@BeethovenIsGod ya but more than that, the idea that this man had merited punishment from a lifetime of making other people do his work is completely rediculous. microglia1 had said he "has been rich forever" and trading on peoples labor, the old dog lived through the depression and worked his ass off his whole life, ok the dood put all his eggs in 1 basket bad idea, but i stand by what i said, hes an old school, work hard to get what you want, kinda guy, and thats a good dood in my book.
This was not a man from old money. This was a man who had 700,000 dollars invested with Madoff. That is HARDLY considered "rich" for a lifetime of hard work!!! Not to mention the 700,00 he "lost" may have been his much smaller initial investment, let's say like 350,000 plus what he had thought he had gained by dealing with Madoff... totaling up to 700 grand. Either way, he seems like a nice guy, and I am sorry this happened to him :( Those who blame the victims are heartless!
I understand what you are saying but the problem with your comment is that you ASSUME he knew his money was with Madoff which may not be the case. Watch the clip again and you will hear him say that he had a FINANCIAL ADVISOR.
OH MAN! ....i am laying down here..watching all these Madoff videos. & they are all so sad it took this one to make me cry..I hope Ruth Madoff has heart enough to see something like this and donate not a lot but all of what million dollars she owns. That is the only right and fair thing I can think of.
Well said babakn25. Money isn't everything but 90 year old men should never work to pay for medication.
As for the people who killed themselves... wow. All life is to these greedy people is money. They should sell their stupid shit and get a job. Eat sleep and have sex. Find some friends and enjoy time with their family...... you know... LIVE! Try to find a purpose for their sad, meaningless life other than commercial goods and lazy lifestyles. Get a hobby. Fucking A.
@babakn25 , you have a point, come to think of it, this guy is 90. What is the chance he will make it to 100? He can't live for the rest of his life on $700,000? It never ceases to amaze me that when people have money they need to have a financial advisor!
I feel very sorry for all these innocent people who lost all their money to that asshole madoff. Never ever invest, that's my motto. Think of it like the Holocaust, NEVER AGAIN! You just have to be happy with what you have and you shouldn't invest hoping for more cause you never always know what the future means.
Not all lost their money,he gave a 12% return on their inital investment per year, which means in 9 years he basically gave the initial investment back, only the people who had less than 9 years with madoff lost anything.
if it wasn't for investing in the stock market, a whole lot of people on this planet would not have the job they have today.
I guess for some people it's preferable that they see other people live "hand to mouth" instead of working at a company that was able to exist and/or expand because of the stock market.
Word of advise. Don't trust anyone, not even stockbrokers.
My father invested $50k in stocks and he trusted a stock broker. But lose everything at the end. there are many ways of making money. But greedy is not one of them.
Jews don't want anti-semitism, yet a far higher ratio of Jews than in other faiths destroy people financially, like this old man and his wife. It's been the same throughout history, and why through the ages no country has wanted the Jews. Hitler, admittedly nuts, still sold is case to remove them from the planet completely. Why instead can't Jews fundamentally change and do to others what they'd have done to themselves, those now out there that seek to steal from others.
Could SOMEBODY explain to me WHY someone would NOT invest all their money ONLY in guaranteed-interest Certificates of Deposit from a bank?
I admit (so you won't call me a hypocrite later) that I had a lot of my money tied up in Mutual Funds. But, that was back when my parents were still alive and I was living with them. But, after they died, I knew by then to yank ALL my money out of ANYthing that is NOT guaranteed, even if it makes only 2% yield.
to ecordy75: apparantly there are very few people like us anymore. I know, as I am certain you do as well, that money is so hard to accumulate yet so easy to lose. I would rather lose it very, very, slowly to inflation than immediately to the stock market. I am with you....certificates of deposit and U S Govt Treasury Bills all the way
Thank you, inkey2. In the 1990s, my father (and I, probably) believed that mutual funds WERE a way of NOT putting all of one's eggs into one basket, since the money was spread over the entire market. I remember going from $33,000 to $16,000 - losing slightly more than half my investment - some time from 2000 to 2001.
Question now is: should I not even trust banks and their FDIC to insure my money up to $200,000? (I have about 3/4 of that.)
Thats nothing, this other woman had $2.3 MILLION invested with Madoff, so she could RETIRE on 25% interest !!!! $2.3 MILLION!!!GREEDY JEW !!! Man i would be lucky to retire with $1 million.
No1 told him to hand over all his money to madeoff,Its a shame hes broke yea but he was lucky he had money like that to give someone in the 1st place.
"he was lucky he had money like that to give someone in the 1st place."
You make it sound like he just had $700,000 lying around and said, "Here." 1. This is money he probably spent decades saving. 2. He didn't just give Madoff a lump sum. He invested his money little by little.
Yes, he shouldn't have put all his eggs in one basket, but that was what his investment advisor should have told him since he was getting paid to what? Advise.
Sorry. I meant "wonderful gracious couple!!".

we usually do crimes when we first start out because we have an aggressive change of personality, so they can just use that to justify our positions.

oh, schizophrenia is a premature dementia that the younger brain is able to handle. It just causes us to lose cognitive ability. It ends our normal careers and due to its widespread victim range, a lot of people probably just didn't want to accept their new minds and had enough funds to get lawyers and broke their fellows of institutions. It doesn't stop us from being philosophical janitors. Prior to interference, my body was fine, but now I'm weak.
returnoftheramble3 11 months ago
you guys are going to at least let me try these stem cells.

It's not. Look at the world's schizophrenics.
returnoftheramble3 11 months ago
at least you're in good health.

Bill1275w 1 year ago
Sir, if you have 700,000 and you're 90 why not just buy treasury bonds and CD's? The first rule is never take more risk than you absolutely have to. Was it greed? And why are you 90 and still have a mortgage? What's the story there? Money without judgement is more useless than shit. At least you can fertilize plants with shit. Sorry guys, I have absolutely no sympathy or respect for this man.
Bill1275w 1 year ago
@Bill1275w Well you spread your investments to lower risk and you only invest what you're prepared to lose but you have to have some sympathy for these people because they didn't know they were investing in ponzi scheme
begood20000 1 year ago
@begood20000 If you knew how many old rich guys told me, "Why listen to you about bonds and China? I grew up with a guy who knows a guy that says he can guarantee (insert number)%. Or better yet, "I'm going to stick with my real estate." Here's another one. " I'm losing my life savings, so I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing." Uhh sir WTF!!! When somebody says "guarantee" in this industry or makes projections over 10% (5% at or near retirement), don't give them your money, call the cops!
Bill1275w 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
That's why you get advice from a registered financial advisor with a firm you've heard of, not your lawyer.

Why don't you give your money to someone with a chance and help a country prosper instead of some old bag who is merely taking up space. The fact that you would even make a suggestion like that without considering the more obvious and worthwhile alternative is just pathetic. This man is NOT a victim.

Bernie Madoff is a hero. The rich steal from the poor. He stole from the rich and spent the money himself. Still a hero.........<-- my previous post <-- okay, so this one didn't quite work out like the others. This old man in the video knows the meaning of life and didn't kill himself. Fine, Madoff still taught the others a lesson in greed.
joseftran 1 year ago
@joseftran Madoff was a rich man who stole from the rich- and those who weren't rich. Which automatically disqualifies him as a hero.
kingofwaverly 1 year ago
@kingofwaverly You are Wrong !!!! Madoff is a hero. By definition a hero does not necessarily halfto be a person. It could be the act of the person. For example...Alexander the Great is a hero to some and a demon to others yet he is a historical hero never-the-less. Did you know that Alexander was a General and he and his troops KILLED many people? To those he KILLED, they do not think that he is a hero.
joseftran 1 year ago
@joseftran The people such as yourself who regard Madoff as a hero are FAR OUTNUMBERED by those who regard him as a villain.
kingofwaverly 1 year ago
@kingofwaverly If or when one day you find yourself without means, money and homeless you will understand why some people regard him as a HERO. I've all been through that myself. The world is much more complex than we all imagine and is is by no means meant to be what we THINK is should be. Just remember my little one.....you should never hate someone because they are a villian or regarded as a villian, there is a reason for his existence just as much as there is a reason for yours.
joseftran 1 year ago
@joseftran Lately, the reason a lot of people are without means, money, and homeless is because of people like Madoff. And it's not just the "fools" who invested . What do you mean I should never hate someone for being a villain? Should I canonize Ted Bundy for killing all those women? Or Hitler for killing Jews? The only real reason for Bundy or Hitler or Madoff is to show people what NOT to become?
kingofwaverly 1 year ago
@kingofwaverly I disagree .... ALL people should be respected even Hitler for killing Jews. There is a very good reason why we need men of evil. It is simply because the world is that way and there can be no such thing as good alone. They are the balancers of the world. For every good there must be a counter evil. For example...if you are happy then someone needs to be miserable to make you happy. Think about it... can everyone be masters and no slaves?
joseftran 1 year ago
@joseftran That is no excuse for Madoff or your defense of him. He is a weak man and a coward for giving in to his baser instinct of greed. The problem with that line of thinking is that some people use it as a carte blanche to live without morals. Madoff might as well be a monkey flinging crap and jacking off in plain view of everyone for all the good he is.
kingofwaverly 1 year ago
@kingofwaverly You are terribly mistaken. He is like GOD walking the earth. Do you know how hard it is to swindle those rich people? He made it look like 4th grade french ! I admire him soo much. Fantastic ! If only I had a mind of mastery like him. I say set him free so the world can enjoy more of his terrific dramas. I wonder what he'll think of NEXT ! To me he's like any other celebrity. I would rather lose my money very slowly to inflation than immediately to some risky, high yield scam

PungiFungi 1 year ago
@PungiFungi : one of the reasons that financial advisors are far more important today than many years ago is because people are living much longer today. It is not unusual at all now for people to "out live their savings and income". THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION OF ALL:
.
What is the underlying law of nature.
.
As the way of all things, what effect do you suppose its question, knowledge, understanding and application by billions of persons will have on the state of global economics, science, the humanities, education, government and business?
.
The underlying law of nature is the most important subject any person can investigate and learn about, can proceed to understand, and can then come to personally apply in life.

locriansrevenge 2 years ago 2
I agree with you. However, You have to consider that although this man is very diligent and determined, it was entirely foolish and greedy to invest his life saving with one person. People are aware that it is a risk even if they are naive and completely unaware that ponzi schemes exist. In that respect It is hard to feel sympathy for him. On the other hand, watching a 90 year old man work breaks my heart.
BeethovenIsGod 2 years ago
@BeethovenIsGod ya but more than that, the idea that this man had merited punishment from a lifetime of making other people do his work is completely rediculous. microglia1 had said he "has been rich forever" and trading on peoples labor, the old dog lived through the depression and worked his ass off his whole life, ok the dood put all his eggs in 1 basket bad idea, but i stand by what i said, hes an old school, work hard to get what you want, kinda guy, and thats a good dood in my book.
locriansrevenge 2 years ago
This was not a man from old money. This was a man who had 700,000 dollars invested with Madoff. That is HARDLY considered "rich" for a lifetime of hard work!!! Not to mention the 700,00 he "lost" may have been his much smaller initial investment, let's say like 350,000 plus what he had thought he had gained by dealing with Madoff... totaling up to 700 grand. Either way, he seems like a nice guy, and I am sorry this happened to him :( Those who blame the victims are heartless!

You just have to be happy with what you have and you shouldn't invest hoping for more cause you never always know what the future means.

@gropro890

That's my term.

Greed and stupidity. Pure & simple.

to ecordy75: apparantly there are very few people like us anymore. I know, as I am certain you do as well, that money is so hard to accumulate yet so easy to lose. I would rather lose it very, very, slowly to inflation than immediately to the stock market. I am with you....certificates of deposit and U S Govt Treasury Bills all the way
inkey2 2 years ago
Thank you, inkey2. In the 1990s, my father (and I, probably) believed that mutual funds WERE a way of NOT putting all of one's eggs into one basket, since the money was spread over the entire market. I remember going from $33,000 to $16,000 - losing slightly more than half my investment - some time from 2000 to 2001.
Question now is: should I not even trust banks and their FDIC to insure my money up to $200,000? (I have about 3/4 of that.)

Advise.
