it took them just over 24 hours to crack this DRM and release pirated versions. That means it takes torrent sites longer to release them, but its still not a significant length of time, so DRM is therefore worthless

Look in the Support folder in your root installation folder and theres a game updater folder that will get you patched to the latest 1.2 patch. Everything about this game stinks really except the graphics, which along with the modding community are the only 2 things that keeps me playing. I am also an avid SH3 fan which blows this out the water so to speak in terms of gameplay.
I really don't see the point in DRM. The people who normally pirate games have cracked the DRM anyway, so it's just the honest people who suffer - who didn't even do anything to begin with.

Steam has this for ten bucks right now... I was thinking about getting it, but seeing how many negative comments it's been getting coupled with the DRM nonsense, I think I'll pass. It's a shame, Silent Hunter II and III were fantastic games; this looks like Silent Hunter IV transported from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean.

Why is it that a 5 year old game has no problems running on hardware (and an operation system 2 generations newer) then it was designed for when this game is released in 2010 with so many compatibility issues that you have to uninstall the .net framework just to get into the menu. Which crashes anyway.

Hi Ubisoft, the game looks great. seems its aimed at simulating being a Captain of a sub more than just the sub sim we had in the past. I own almost every silent hunter game there is except the first one and have been a fan for a long time. I will not be able to use this one because of the internet connection aspect of the game. I wish you wouldn't have done that. I guess that is all i can do or say. good luck with the game.
My Major Gripe with this game is it is internet connection based, which is absolutely horrendous in a PC game.. The idea of intalling a game on your computer, just so you can run it over the internet when you have a good connection is a terrible way to do business. It's one thing to register online, but man, If I get a game, I want to be able to use it whether I have an internet connection or not.

You have fantastic detail and realism but when I'm standing on the deck, I want to see the environment in 3D (With 3D glasses - Even the simple red/blue glasses). This would create an amazing view, not to mention judging the distance of the aircraft attacking me. It would give you the feeling of being there. Create the patch and watch your product sell !. It's an untapped resource.

As the consumers, we own the market, so if we refuse to buy products that use immoral systems like this, they will be forced to remove it. @gevelegian Graphics have nothing to do with Ubisoft, actually I think the game engine is fantastic, I have no vis bugs. What Ubisoft are responsible for is removing half the game content before release to sell it to us later as 'DLC', as much as the programmers hate this, Ubisoft has the funds so they call the shots; they also pushed an early release so are responsible for bugs in that sense. We lose out, the good guys who made the game lose out, Ubisoft get new cars. Bad business ethos.

They industry invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in DRM and similar copy-protection technologies, and to what avail? It gets cracked barely before it's even hit the stores. And what about those who -do- buy it legally? They get to bother with the buggy copy-protection anyways. Those same people who used to buy games in the stores, online or physical, are now the ones who's passing up titles that's been fucked up by it.
*sigh*... will the industry ever learn? Personally, I don't think so.

UBI Soft should be spanked for releasing the game in this state to begin with.
It was unbeliveably buggy. Graphics were screwed up, interaction with the U-Boat was bad to say the least.
Comparing SH 5 with the previous versions made me sad.
So, instead of downloading a pirated version.

@Monopoly907 Why would they make it with crappier graphics? The PS3 is vastly inferior to the average gamer PC these days in terms of both graphics and processing power. Also, you can get a very nice joypad for the PC these days (Logitech Chillstream to name one) so that's not even a viable excuse anymore.
Let's put it this way: What calculations your PS3 can do in 6½ hours, a Geforce 8800 Ultra can do in roughly 2 hours. And the Geforce 8800 Ultra is more than 2 years old :-/

Hi Ubisoft, the game looks great. seems its aimed at simulating being a Captain of a sub more than just the sub sim we had in the past. I own almost every silent hunter game there is except the first one and have been a fan for a long time. I will not be able to use this one because of the internet connection aspect of the game. I wish you wouldn't have done that. I guess that is all i can do or say. good luck with the game.

My Major Gripe with this game is it is internet connection based, which is absolutely horrendous in a PC game.. The idea of intalling a game on your computer, just so you can run it over the internet when you have a good connection is a terrible way to do business. It's one thing to register online, but man, If I get a game, I want to be able to use it whether I have an internet connection or not.

i enjoy the fact you can walk around but would be nice to have control of more systems i do miss the crew managment that you had spot on in SH4 and not having the ability to talk to your crew through the interface is a bit annoying
but on the other hand i still have the compass ruler potractor and all the other bits which make it simmy.
i think UBI need to realise that this game is not intended to be arcade its for the die hard simmers like me. SH6????????

Nice... but your 'MISSING ONE THING'... True 3D. You messed up with DRM. I don't want that. You have fantastic detail and realism but when I'm standing on the deck, I want to see the environment in 3D (With 3D glasses - Even the simple red/blue glasses). This would create an amazing view, not to mention judging the distance of the aircraft attacking me. It would give you the feeling of being there. Create the patch and watch your product sell !. It's an untapped resource.

I dont know what they been doing when they programmed SH5 but they seem to have been constantly high on LSD cus the game is totally unplayable, if youre under attack you cant even make any manuevers to get out, cus the rudder only allow you to turn 1 degree, amazingly stupid, silent hunter 3 is the best in the series and it only seems to get worse from there,

As the consumers, we own the market, so if we refuse to buy products that use immoral systems like this, they will be forced to remove it. There is a working torrent of this on the PirateBay that only requires some simple edit to fix, if you like it send a donation straight to the Romanian devs.

Hey Ubisoft....this game has a lot of potential to make some good money. But you fucked it all up by not only including DRM, but not knowing how to keep it from being full of goofy bugs. Sure it's runable and able to do missions, but not without a bunch of weird crap going on. @gevelegian Graphics have nothing to do with Ubisoft, actually I think the game engine is fantastic, I have no vis bugs. What Ubisoft are responsible for is removing half the game content before release to sell it to us later as 'DLC', as much as the programmers hate this, Ubisoft has the funds so they call the shots; they also pushed an early release so are responsible for bugs in that sense. We lose out, the good guys who made the game lose out, Ubisoft get new cars. Bad business ethos.
