  • I think the vocals on the Motown version are better. Had they put them with this version of the music, It would have sounded better, Something seemed forced about her delivery on this version whereas on the Motown version they are smooth, I don't know, maybe she went back in and re-recorded them, I do think it makes for interesting conversation, I think Motown was wrong for re-mixing the record but in the end we got to good versions!

  • This is pretty much the only track on Diana where the Motown version is better than the Chic version. The Motown versions were good, but nothing compared to the Chic ones in the main.

  • @jamesmt142 Well said, but the Motown "Now That Your Gone" is superior as well. I think the one Chic version that stands out the most is "Friend to Friend". Leagues above the Motown version for me.

  • LOVELY MUSIC... LOVE D EIGHTIES

  • That art cover photo never gets old.

    Something refreshing about it.

  • what atrack! love the guitars and piano at the end, not as good as the released version....

  • @djblade666 Disagree, as the piano playing at the end of this version is much more prominent and clever than the released version.

  • @EddieAlda Agreed the piano is best on this version, along with the other instruments. But I think the faced pacedness of the released version suits this song best

  • @djblade666 the released version had more 'snap' imo

  • GREAT

  • Nice digital audio.

  • The remarkable Ross with the help of Nile and Bernard put this one at the top. Awesome song. I must say, the piano arrangements were off the chain in this version. However, I do like the the version that is on the original Upside Down CD better. It's a little faster and Ross is more into it. Love this song.

  • love diana! my baby

  • WTF?

    WHY XMAS NUMBER 1?

    I DONT GET IT.

    ITS NOT FUNY?

  • @BigUpBeatz well when u say say it capatalized as if ur yelling its kinda funny lol

  • I know what I ment!!!!!!!

  • diana's version is better.. she knew what she was doing when she changed this.. wish she would have left more of the piano solo at the end though

  • I can just about see Michael Jackson in her face...Love this song though :)

  • @1990Stace4ever no you can see her in MJ's face.. he altered his appearance to look like her for a while there.

  • Her voice definitely sounded bad here. She sounds like she's bored. No urgency, almost sounds intoxicated.

  • Motown vibe still in the air today

  • love this

  • Is that Nile Rodgers who worked with Madonna?

  • @tutgolf

Yes, and with Sister Sledge, David Bowie, Chic, etc.

  • OMG! This is the original studio take where Bernie and Nile told her she was singing flat (and boy, was she ever! OUCH!) That was why she walked out on them. Then she took the masters back to Motown, re-recorded the vocals in tune (thank GOD!), edited out that great piano solo at the end, and voila!

It's interesting to hear her in the creative process before the finished product, but on this recording, she sounded like you-know-what!

  • as a late 80's baby i only knew a few of diana ross' radio singles. i stumbled upon a greatest hits album on vinyl at my grandparents house and now i play it almost daily. this is one of my favorite songs for sure.

  • NO COMMENT.E

  • Sends me back to my days as a child when i use to love going shopping for bargain records and stuff. Friend to friend was the b-side i think. You notice how all the b sides came off the album which i think was pretty mean they should have released non album tracks. I still prefer vinyl and how it was packaged compared to cd.

  • This is one heck of an album. I agree with jcarp413. Every song in this album was really, really good. I was a teenage then. My, how time flies!

  • Bernard Edwards - vocals, bass Nile Rodgers - guitar Tony Thompson - drums Alfa Anderson, Luci Martin - lead vocals The Chic Strings:[4] Karen Milne Marianne Carroll Valerie Haywood Cheryl Hong Karen Karlsrud Gene Orloff Vocals - Fonzi Thornton, Michele Cobbs, Ullanda McCullough, Luther Vandross, Jocelyn Brown Keyboards - Robert Sabino, Andy Schwartz, Raymond Jones, Nathaniel S. Hardy, Jr. Percussion - Sammy Figueroa
  • this 's very buteaful girl

  • This is my favorite Diana Ross album. Every single song was good on this album!!

  • @jcarp413 Mine too. The jam on this album was Tenderness and Have Fun Again. Oh, Now that your Gone and Friend to Friend were awesome slow jams. Let's not forget Give Up, that really showed Diana''s vocal strengths Of course without saying the Theme Upside Down and I'm Coming out spoke for themselves. That's the Duo of Chic that wrote and produced such strong Music.

  • I love this music !!!

  • Wow, the good old days! I wish The Boss could still sing like that.

  • What a great tune, Priceless !!!
