  • Sorry, but Sonny Turner is nowhere near the singer that Tony Williams was. Tony was outstanding!

  • just AWESOME <3

  • Have you figured out GOD/SATAN's DAUGHTER yet or does she still need to stay crucified?

  • This is from a Platters LP from 1969. Lead singer on this record is Sonny Turner. He was the replacement for Tony Williams, and had a few big hits as the lead.."I Love You A Thousand Times", Washed Ashore", "With This Ring (I'll Always Love You" and some lesser ones...they continued to perform in Europe. Tony eventually went out on his own and put on very good show. Saw him in Bermuda in 1979 and many times since in Las Vegas where he still performs regularly. His Platters work Oldies concerts.

  • this is not to slow ... my man has me in his arms on the dance floor ... his breath slow and deep ... is heart pounding hard and low ... he say's "do you" ... this wonderful song gets me there (the 60's) with this great singing voice... )

  • perfection!!!

thank you so much for great music

  • é muito lindo

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! I have always loved this song. And have always loved the Platters. But I do agree with the posts here that mentioned that this is being sung too slow. But they gave it the old college try & it aint bad. Thanks for posting! CHEERS! :-)

  • nadhera!!!!!

  • sory to say but this song is not ment to be draged out it needs to be a bit faster

  • Sorry, but this song belongs to the 1965 Righteous Brothers. This 1990 version by the Platters is boringly slow. Love the Platter BTW.

  • @socal92504 i feel you bro, i like the righteous version too...

  • could have fell many if i came home to something as hot as this or should i say a chic who knew how or what to do with me

  • yes but i was meant to go to war

  • indementicabili platters.

  • Another Guy that I really like to hear sing this song is Johnny Maestro of the Crests and the Brooklyn Bridge....although I like everything that he has done!

  • The original Platters were not around in 1990....shouldn't put up a photo of the original Platters with this date...

All other 'Platters' were just poor imitations...like this one...

    It's bad!

Listen to Tony Williams when he was young...a truly gifted voice....

Sadly, drugs took it's toll on him...

  • @sdi1111 I agree with you. So who were the original Platters and up til when were they together as this wonderful group?

  • @stafylides First there were The Inkspots and then came The Platters...probably the first two black groups to become International recognised, including America... I am not an authority on The Platters history, but as a singer who studied the voice, Tony Williams from the original group was a 'God-given' voice. To see him in his latter years is so sad... to throw away such a gift is an incomprehensible travesty...for very few receive this gift...Original Platters first hit 'Only You' about 1954

  • @sdi1111 Thank you for the info. I agree with you, Tony Williams did have an excellent singing voice. As did that boy, what's his name, Little Anthony? who was also very talented musically and died from drug abuse. What a shame. At least we can enjoy their music on here. The Platters are my fav singing group of all time !!!

  • @stafylides Thanks for your reply... If you enjoy beautiful songs, then I am sure you will appreciate my song on YouTube...go to or paste: 'Roberto Gennari/This Crazy Heart', Feel the power of love and the simple words I wrote..Of course, I am very biased, and I realise with some sadness that there are many out there who have no passion in their hearts..only those who have loved and lost are able to feel the power of this song... I would be interested in your comments. Regards, Roberto

  • @sdi1111 you are right I to do not think they should be singing this

  • The Platters are awesome. The best version of the song Summertime is done by the Platters. They just are totally the best.

  • I always say, I was born in the wrong time period.

  • @lachikachilena57 Me too, me too. Sadly Im a '90s child :/

  • @SuperMrDwayne same here

  • @lachikachilena57

I`m with you there. born Sixty Six and all my musical memories are from early to late Sixties ! How does that work ?

  • @lachikachilena57 yea, me too

  • @lachikachilena57 no yu weren't, yu were born in this era to make things better.;)

  • @lachikachilena57

Making 'the drag' on Proctor Street in Port Arthur in the 50's

    listening to this music.

  • @lachikachilena57 , you must watch Midnight in Paris, in that movie your idea about wrong time of burn is described very well, and in common is very good film about nostalge about the past

  • I love this song wiht The platter..I just love it so mucho...I've always liked it...and Mr.Sandman is lovely too....me encanta mucccho muchoooo...

  • its sad on such a great song about love people still find a way to be complete jerks to each other, really shows how society has changed

  • @bijeleudovice2 Always something new to learn. I listened to Mr. Duncan's version. It was only fair by comparison to the Platters take on it, and I doubt if anyone else would have carried the song forward without the Platters version. Just my opinion. I also learned that since this song was from a prison movie, then time could be related to serving time in prison, instead of, as I also erroneously thought, time spent at sea between meetings of lovers in the US. 6 months would have been normal.

  • @bijeleudovice2 I stand corrected then. In my experience, as I said above, this version of the song was the original. Should I have said it was the original song that lay people heard on the radio? I don't think I ever saw the prison film "Unchained" and I don't think I ever heard Todd Duncan sing the vocals for the film soundtrack. I will listen to it if it is on Youtube and see if it provokes anything in my memory. Thanks for correcting me. I don't feel stupid somehow.

  • I love The Platters. They did a lot of great songs. This is not one of them.

  • Essa música é linda de qualquer versão e eu amooooooooo essa original The Platers é simplesmente the best!!!!

  • Elvis Presleys versions the best

  • @TheMagneto187,

    1. Bobby Hatfield - No one comes close, no one.

    2. Roy Orbison - One of the greatest voices of all time nails this song.

    3. Elvis

    4. The Rest

  • I just love them, wish i could listen 2 them live, they where really great band, and made every song there own, just beyond every copying artist/band

  • wasn't this song fron the movie unchained with kirk douglas as crazy legs hirsch? crazy legs (elroy) had a stinted in chino min security prison. im so sure i heard this song then back in the 50's?

  • I feel like kicking these Guys up the ass to get this GREAT Song MOVING! LOL

  • In 1955, Alex North and lyricist Hy Zaret were contracted to write a song as a theme for the obscure prison film Unchained, and their song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody.

With Todd Duncan singing the vocals, the song was nominated for an Oscar in 1955, but the Best-Song award went to the hit song "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing."

  • it's konesewer

  • Without this Platters's version of the song, the original take on this song, there would have been no righteous brothers version, no elvis version, no tom jones version. I like all of them, but this is the original. I was in Sonar school in San Diego and a friend from there, last name CLARY(Hey,dude) brought his new wife to San Diego and introduced me and several of his Sonar buddies to her. This was their song. He played it and it was the first time I had heard it. 1955.

  • It's connaisseur.Pardon my French.I'm Dutch.

  • Nobody is touching The Righteous Brothers, The Platters, And Clay Aiken at this Unchained Melody of Beauty. I am 23 And have been listening to this song by Righteous Brothers for over 9 years. I love oldies and The Platters really nailed this song and made it one of their owns.

  • Fantabulous!!!

  • i love this song,nice.

  • Comment removed

  • Why people feel the need to bring up Rap/Hip hop on these old black generation singers is beyond me. They are two separate genres in my opinion. Just because a certain type of 'black' music doesn't conform to your tastes does NOT give you the right to rant about it LOL

  • FUCK that redneck Elvis. Glad hes dead LOL. The platters rule!

  • @rankingtrevor Go to school..

  • @rankingtrevor wash your mouth out.

  • Jerry Butler did this song some justice too......

  • nice this version!!

  • I have never heard anyone refer to Bobby Hatfield as stupid, and there is probably a good reason for that.

  • Holy shit, this is the real stuff....

  • This man sings from his SOUL

  • Here is one of the most heart touching performances about LOVE

yet the language on this page between folks is a revelation of how far away we are from LOVE

  • This is SOOOO romantique! Love it!!! diana

  • The platters are coming to my village in sicily to sing, can't wait to see them

  • I agree with you, nobody could do this like this fantastic group.

  • I agree 1,000 %, nobody could do this like the Platters...

  • SEE THAT 80TH DISLIKE>>>> THAT WAS ME

  • @lowrideroldies666 Fuck you Asshole, get a fucking life. If you didn't like it, why did you watch it? Go be a cunt somewhere else.

  • @JiggyMonster98 I WATCHED IT CUZ I WAS TRYING TO FIND A SICK VERSION OF THIS, AND ALL I GET IS THIS GAY SHIT, IM VERY DISAPOINTED,,,,,,,, I LOVE THEASE GUYS SONGS BUT THIS WAS GAY

  • @lowrideroldies666 entrylevel jokes

  • @blindmansarrow YOUR MOM HAS ENTRY LEVEL JOKES

  • although this version is done well I think its a slower version of the righteouse brothers wish I like the best only because itsconnected to the movie goast

  • the artists out there today don't have the talent to do this stuff,

  • Why was I born in 2000!? This is absolutely fantastic

  • the best pack. ;)

  • Those album covers -- Notice there's no bling, no 20" rims, no guns, no porn. What the hell happened to America in 50yrs?

  • The older you are the more you will appreciate this, this is a very old version.

  • @15aramis15 I agree and disagree. Us younger folk who recognize what good music is I feel may appreciate it the same if not more because we know its our generations that are f****** it all up. Older people have perhaps gotten to experience this good stuff at least a little while people like myself are left dreaming of a more golden era, wishing that somehow we could get back to real music and real people.

  • all you are GAGO because righteous brothers are the right to sing this song.they are so great. Take note : they are so great and nothing ca compare

  • Elvis can't sing better than the Platters. Please.

  • Nothing can touch the original. Elvis, Righteous brothers, The Platters is the best version.

  • @DondiBiz The original?? That was released in 1955; it featured in the movie 'Unchained'. First recorded by Al Hibbler and Les Baxter.

  • @jimincairns The 1st person to record this Beautiful song was Todd Duncan in 1955..The recording was made for the soundtrack of the obscure prison film "Unchained."

  • robinandthe7hoods - well said. Maybe for many of today's artists its due to the lack of love and attention from loving parents that breeds contempt for anything including oneself. Or maybe shock value is king now, nothing is pure or respected anymore.

  • cuando bailabamos con esta melodia cuantas palabras nos ahorravamos .,solo silencio yyyy......nada solo silencio.

  • iv been listening to this its making me sleepy so it must be great, and iv been in line with that drummer at every beat i would have played it no other way..

  • I like The Platters, and their version here, but, no...sorry...does not, ABSOLUTELY does NOT compare to Elvis' version! Elvis' perfect rendition can nearly make me well-up w emotion.

  • once upon a time..............

  • This is so good.

  • I really liked this version

  • Such an emotional version!!I LOVE IT!!!

  • its ok but i like the vito and the salutations version. more upbeat

  • These people have no clue. Go back to your fifty dollar a nite clubs. I know they try, but it just ain't working.

  • This is the song I proposed to my wife with. We have been married 17-years.

  • I love this song no matter who sing it but righteous brothers Rock it.

  • This song has been performed by many artists. In my opinion, only LeAnn Rimes can equal this.

  • This song must have the record, for a song covered by so many different singers and groups.

  • you know an amazng song when: its like 50 years old and still sounds so amazing, also when it is s beautiful and millions of people love it

  • listen tothis guy sing....Fu*kin BALLS!!!!

  • @chuck31872 This generation of kids just don't know any better music. I'm glad my kids listened to my music 'back in the' as they say.

    but they like it all.

  • @chuck31872 This generation of kids just don't know any better music. I'm glad my kids listened to my music 'back in the day' as they say.

    but they like it all.

  • baby makein music right here lol

  • This is soooo sensuous, but I prefer the Righteous Bros version...so forlorn sounding....

  • @rosita62 Yeah, I need a fan and some cold water...whew!

  • still the best one

  • The original, and best, lead singer of the Platters was Tony Williams. But even when he left they were still one of the greatest singing groups of all time.

THIS is beautiful music and RAP is crap or some guy who can't sing chanting a load of garbage.

  • Original is WAAAY better

  • Does anybody know who is the singer? Paul Robi or David Lynch?

  • Is this original one?

  • @TheChinnko yep 100% the original (hehe i have the platters on vinyl) the best ( :

  • thumbs up to this version, this is my first time hearing it.

  • 70 people are deaf

  • es mucho mejor esta version, righteus brothers la copio de esta version asi como el ejemplo de PERCY SLEDGER dio la pauta de como cantar "when a man like a woman" y vino ELTON JOHN a copiar a percy

  • First time that I've heard this version.

What can I say ? It's fine but so are other versions.

    Thumbs up!!!

  • WHAT is the point of making a comment that does \NOT appear....... fingers out please

  • Oh My God! That would have to be the best. Only the Best. It is as @lackofriposte says "This is hands-downs the best version of this song" It is beautiful. Thank you. Thank you. Words cannot express my appreciation. xxx <3 xxx

  • Everything the Platters did was outstanding, all solid voices. But no one ever mentions the great rendition of this song by Al Hibbler, right back to the early 50's.

  • @excop820 I like most versions but I always go back to Al Hibbler, from the 1955 movie "Unchained".

  • @excop820 I like most versions but I always go back to Al Hibbler's version.

  • WOW ....IVE NEVER HEARD THIS VERSION BEFORE

  • BEATIFUL MELODY_TAHANK'S GOD!!GOD BLES YOU MY FRIEND_FOREVER!!

  • Espetáculo, músicas inesquecíveis, já não se faz\ cantores como antes. A interpretação de The Platters é linda demais. Melodia que noz faz bem a alma.

    Parabéns pelo vídeo. Maravilhoso.

    Um abraço.

    RRMarchalek

  • buttfuck you

  • a 100 times better than every singer thats out right now

  • 66 butt-wipes don't recognize good music when they hear it! <3

  • In my estimation, Pat Boone's rendition is the best.

  • CHAVITA ARTEAGA LUGO DE QUERETARO........TE AMO CON TODA MI ALMA GRACIAS POR EXISTIR Y DARLE SENTIDO A MI VIDA TE AMO...ETERNAMENTE!!!!

  • i like the version with the platters brothers

  • so much much love ,,,,

  • This is by far the best version and I have heard them all.

  • DAVE LENNARD - UNCHAINED MELODY - FANTASTIC CHECK IT OUT!!!!

  • This is hands-down the best version of this song. I don't care what anyone says, the Elvis versions and the stupid Righteous Brothers versions may also be well executed, but they just can't compare to the emotion in this version. I can feel the pain and longing of this singer. This is an amazingly well done song.

  • @lackofriposte I'm a platters fan, but the Righteous Brothers killed this song...

  • @lackofriposte

Check out Mickey Newbury's very different, but brilliant version!

  • @lackofriposte Stupid Righteous Brothers version? Bobby Hatfield owns this song and always will. I agree that the Platters did this very well. But they are still on second place. Way ahead of anyone else I've heard do it, but Hatfield is still #1 and will be forever.

  • @lackofriposte God. The Righteous Brothers made this song. They all show the emotion, just a different way of presenting it. Get over yourself.

  • @lackofriposte stupid righteous brothers version? you sound like a fanboy, this music is for connosseurs, not ignorants.

  • @pauloesnegro This music is for people who like it. Ignorance is bliss ;P

  • Try listening to the George Benson version - it is pretty powerful

  • @pauloesnegro

hey sorry can't help but to correct you there

it is actually 'connoisseur' and not 'connosseur'

funny how you'd think you are one yet you can't spell...

  • @yoyorollyo "cant help but to correct you there"... yeah that shows you are superior. I bet you hardly speak anything but English. I also bet I'm better than you in this language and i know you are going to base your counter on the fact that I missed the "i" key once. I bet you that I am not going to reply to whatever you might write.

  • @pauloesnegro i couldnt agree more!

  • @pauloesnegro And you sound like a bully. People are entitled to their own tastes, and the Righteous Brothers version is the one I prefer, probably because it's the version I grew up with. I love the Platters work in general, but this track is a little too polished for my taste. Needs a bit more passion.

  • @MrSwanley are you like an elementary school teacher or something? you sound gay... just sayin...

  • Comment removed

  • @pauloesnegro Ah, sorry, my mistake. I mistook you for someone capable of more than schoolyard abuse.

  • @MrSwanley schoolyard "abuse"?? are you seriously not like a teacher or something? you really sound like a principal or a soccer mom. Anyways fuck you, also, im dying to meet you so i can show you real abuse faggot.

  • @lackofriposte this version is good but i kinda like tha righteous brothers version better cause tha tempo or is a lil bit faster. this one is a lil bit of a drag..

  • @lackofriposte Watch this again I'd say it's a close call. How can you say the righteous brothers are stupid?! That's not right. Pick a favorite but don't HATE. I love the Platters and all their songs but I'd never say they're stupid even though I think the Righteous Brothers' version is 10x better

  • @lackofriposte You're high on drugs. This version good... very good, but better than the Righteous Brothers? No Way. Not in this universe no way. That being said, I like this version very much - a very talented group.

  • @MrDarkShadow64 Decidedly better than the Righteous Brothers'. In fact, there's even a better The Platters recording that beats either of those two

  • @lackofriposte thats just your opinion. in my mind the best version ist from the righteous brothers

  • @lackofriposte I agree

  • @lackofriposte I agree with you somewhat, but that doesn't mean you should disrespect other artists. Well at least Elvis. haha. ;)

  • @lackofriposte this is to slow and dragged out for me.. and i didnt feel any emotion at all.. i didnt like the elvis version also.. but the righteous brothers took this song to another level.. bobby hatfields voice is well suited for this song..

to many haters on youtube really.. just enjoy the music

  • so good

  • hunger for your touch

  • my favorite song... thank you very much!!!! all the songs of platters are so lovely. its help me a lot while im doing my masterpiece. visit my website gpabsky.com

  • gottdamn this man can sing

  • this song was written for a film made in 1955 called unchained and was sung by a Todd Duncan ,then Al Hibbler went to no1 on british charts and no 3 on american charts and then Jimmy young released his version also going to no1 . it was then recorded by various artists including Harry Belafonte ,Gene vincent, Perry Como ,Cliff Townshend and Phil Spectre, and Bobby Hatfield which was incorectlycredited to the Righeteous brothers although they sang solo

  • this song just remind me of my brother inlaw and my cousin,sometimes it happened what we less expect,but it's part of life i hope they both have peace of mind;
