  • Xanax was hell... the worst... I had to go into a nut ward and get put on Librium and detoxed after 14 years of being on it (my mom fed me high doses of that and twice the amount of meds as a kid because I was hyperactive)... I recently was put on a low dose of klonopin for 3 months and I have to taper from that... the insomnia is hitting me and I am wound but it wasn't that terror reaction I got every 2.5 hours or if I tried to taper down one dose by .175 mg i was on 12 mg of that after years..

  • when I say same as SSRIs ..i mean the amount of monies made by evil Big Pharma. The process takes two years. Aston is not altogether right. For example everybody is different BUT there is a lot of common ground as well. I think alot of withdrawers believe they are unique, that no one can possibly be suffering as much as they but it is the hardest withdrawal mentally and the suffering is across the board. I am very lucky to have gotten off of them. I paid, it was worth it!

  • same as SSRI's.,,I have, in my life, been addicted to all drugs, each and every group legal and illegal...I have withdrawn from them all. When I quit benzos I had a narcotics habit as well, I didn't even notice the narcotic withdrawal but I did it. My doctor and other doctors told me I could never quit. I fired him and began the tapering process and I am now free. It has taken two years. I run daily. I take plenty of supplements. I watch what I eat. It can be done.

  • so much money in tranks they just can't resist.

  • this woman deserves a nobel prize. i've talked to several psychiatrists about trying to withdraw. they've ALL dismissed me. once, i had to go to the emergency room because of a very bad reaction to benzos- the doctor prescribed me ativan!! i never did pay that bill...

  • My question is - why are these things legal and pot is not? You don't have to go thru months or years of withdrawal from pot!

  • This is good advice. I'm just getting into benzo's along with taking my prescription opiates. I have such a high tolerance for opiates but with a little bit of benzo's especially xanax, I feel so comfortable and so apathetic about everything in life and it's just great. I suffered a suicide attempt that has pretty much left me sort of crippled along with chronic pain for life. Percocet, Norco's, Vicodin, Xanax, and Trazodone are miracle workers. I don't feel like crap and I feel like I can live.

  • i been on clonazapam i been on .5 MG once aday then i moved my self to 1.5 mg now every month i run out i go into a deep fucked up mood my family dotctor is just as fucked as i am he keeps bumping me up i was put on this drug with cymbalta i was a oxy users for 1 and1/2 years taking 3 80s aday sum times more i thought oxy was thard benzos maybe harder to kick now when i run out i turn to the booZ SORRY FOR MY TYPING IM SMASHEDRIGHT NOW. DONT DO DRUGS OR DRUGS WILL DO YOU

  • Benzo's should be Banned!! What the hell kind of withdraw's are these?

  • And I thought heroin withdrawal was bad. Jesus, just 3 months of taking 1-2 mg of K-pins a day and I'm sick as a dog AND IT WON'T STOP.

  • @CouveTJ h withdrawal is worse it may not be as long but just as if not more painful

  • @SenneffRules I understand where you're coming from, as I myself detoxed from mega doses of Norco, cold turkeyed from Methadone, and later detoxed from Morphine, all for a spinal injury. But I'd take 3 opiate withdrawals over the 6 day taper (near cold turkey) I had after 7 years of high-dose Klonopin, then 8mg Ativan. It's apples & oranges. It was like OD'ing from crank/meth for 6 months before I even noticed a change. The shit doesn't just fuck w/ your body, it actually causes brain damage.

  • if you are not specialist why you write stupid comments Dr Ashton is right almost every thing she says. i have been on benzo K 1mg since 2007 I'm tapering now and if a compare my Dr with her my Dr is an idiot he even didn't know the power between benzos and half life . i don't agree that benzo are worse than heroin benzo are controlled and consider by UN food organisation in 4th place and heroin and others are 1 2 3 .

  • @tedua6 If you were to ask the DEA about whether benzos should be a schedule 1 drug, most in the DEA would say it should be right there w/ heroin, and not a schedule 4, with aspirin. Fucking pot is considered a schedule 1 like heroin, oxy, etc., which is ridiculess.

What's wrong is that psychiatrists are in bed w/ the FDA, and the FDA is in bed with the pharmaceutical companies, and no one has any incentive to stop the monster. Just Google " DEA 100 million benzodiazepines ", and you'll learn.

  • If anyone watching is living the hell of Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Syndrome, please sign the petition at PetitionOnline dot calm. Just type "benzo" into the search box, and the petition will open in a new window. This is one of the few ways we can draw attention to this massive problem.

    Be well.

  • I had no support when I withdrew using Dr. Ashton's protocol on her website. It was very difficult and seemed impossible. I followed the schedule on her website and have been benzo free for a couple years now. The first 2 times I tried I would always go back to my last dose after 5 days being drug free. The third and final time I halved the pill every week until I couldn't halve it anymore. This prevented the withdrawal symptoms that always seemed to start on the 5th day off of the drug

  • @busybuzzbuzz how have you been over the last couple years? Are you symptom free?

  • They don't mind prescribing anti-psychotics like candy which cause brain damage.

    All these quacks talk BS

  • @AdamAdidas909

That may be true but it doesn't make Benzos any better. All prescription drugs are toxins and have virtually no clinical relevance. Even antibiotics.

  • I have no idea why benzos are prescribed for anyone for any longer than a few weeks.

  • If you really want to help your anxiety get some cannibus sativa and smoke it. IT GROWS IN NATURES PHARMACY AND NOT IN A CHEMICAL PLANT. Wke up people and stay away from doctors because they will most definitely make you crazy. You know your body better than any doctor out there so be your own therapist and get well without the chemical overload which is prescribed for you ., and will cause you great psychological impairment.

  • i like her approach, obviously tons of others do as well bc shes well known. no BS about fitness and vitamins of course that does anybody good.but it doesnt help much with withdrawal like some boneheads claim thats all u need

  • Some of you are wondering why a person who's been taking Xanax for years needs to get off them? Because they cause physical, cognitive, emotional, and memory impairments. It's not much of a life you're left with. You're right, a person can live this way until they die, but have they really lived at all??

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone saying that benzosshould be prescribed have probably never tried getting off of them after being accidentally addicted for more than two years because a doctor said it was okay. I am not going cold turkey either, rather a pretty slow taper, and I can easily say this is the worst time in my life. I was so much more stable before I ever took benzos. To the other poster saying there is nothing wrong with maintaining a stable patient on the drug...why would someone stable need them at all?

  • you're better off using street drugs. Worst withdrawal: Benzos. second:Methadone third:alcohol, third: Heroin

  • Electricity can cook your food or burn your house down- (depending on how it is used/abused.) Does that mean we should ban electricity because some people don't know how to use it? If Xanax doesn't work for you, fine. If you had problems with it, I'm sorry. But don't take your one personal experience and apply it universally to EVERYONE. Again, this is a choice for an individual to make under the care of a medical doctor. Period.

  • Why terrify already terrified people? Think of what your dire posts do to folks who need help! Xanax is legal, regulated, and has a safe track record since it's introduction in 1982. Some people need help with anxiety disorders. I'm sorry if that inconvieniences anyone who wishes to share their tales about Xanax. But, no two people are exactly alike and 'one-size-fits-all' logic is not only detrimental to people, it is insensitive.

  • I am not a Pharm rep. I know firsthand the untold good medications like Xanax and other drugs like it can do. By far and large, most people take it responsibly and as prescribed. Some abuse it and blame the medication/doctor. There is no need for all of this hysteria concerning psychotropic medication. Some people have anxiety disorders that create terrible suffering. Med's like Xanax, can allow a person to live instead of being terrified all the time.

  • I am wondering why you would taper someone who is stable, not abusing, or increasing dosages.

  • @phoenixtimes2 And I am wondering why a doctor would prescribe benzos long term use (now almost universally accepted for 2 to 3 week use in the event of significant situational stress - loss of loved one, home, job, etc.), if all of the patient's stressors have dissipated. The problem is an incredible dependency associated with long-term use. Win the lottery, perfect relationships with all, but leave your Rx at home while on a sea cruise, and you become an edgy, snappy person. That's YU taper!

  • Benzo withdrawal is hell..literally!

When you guys hit tolerance, which you will one day or the other, just come off slowly, don't ask for your Doctor's sympathy, you won't get it!

  • Damn, I've been using Diazepam for maybe 6 months, taking variable dosages and skipping days here and there.

Anyway, I quit a few days ago after decreasing the dose for a few weeks. Withdrawal symptoms are occuring, but not very heavily thank god. I think i quit just in time!

  • I just started a "Benzo Withdrawal" support group on Facebook. 1st for support of this hideous condition doctors help create. Please spread the word!

    Thanks, Scott

  • @laaxe Thats great to hear Scott. That`s my whole reasoning for the posts I`ve made regarding this video. I just want to offer support to people who are as desperate as I used to be not all that long ago. Thanks for your post and God bless!

  • @carlorocky Thanks Carlos! My posts from where I was four months ago are about 16 posts below. Your support is very appreciated, and I can only hope to help others who are currently where I initially was after being cut off from my own 11 year GP, as he was afraid of legal issues. Not much better now, but simple contact from people like you has helped immeasurably!

Thanks again, & much peace to you, my friend!

  • @laaxe Good to know! I needed this 1 year ago, but happy to see it is now available for others. Life does get better. The time I spent on Benzos was wasted time. I don't remember much from that period of time.

  • I was on 20-30 blue 10mg tablets a day ,yes that many, sometimes even taking up to 50 10 mg tablets..I was buying them on the street and when i say that i know some people will be skeptical to the stregnth of them but i assure e,one they were full stregnth real deal diazepam/valium...Went to docs when i started feeling very severe withdrawels and st'ed a taper pgm.Tapered mslf fm 90mg a day and itwas HELL.9mths ago i strted and i am now dwn to 3x2mg white diazpm tabs.Thankgod.It is possible

  • @williamblair11 My problem is with Benzos, but when in voluntary detox for Morphine, another patient informed me he was taking 80 mgs of Norco 1000 a day, when my doc said 12 mg a day was on the edge. I belive you bro! The body can tolerate serious abuse, and still bounce back! Amazing, considering the shit they can create! To me, you're a hero, as I'm gettin' my ass kicked from 7 years of high dose prescribed Ativan. Great to know there's a light at the end of the tunnel! Thanx!

  • @laaxe Hope u get thngs sorted my brother,i knw Ativan/lorazepam is a beast when it gets its hooks on u.Just remember if you want off it thrs no need for discomfort at all if you take yer time and come dwn at a rate your comfortable with.Dont let docs push you to come off faster than u can handle.Even if it takes a few years, its a few yrs that ure not stuck in a rut and your always gettin somewhere and when u do get to a lower dosage you feel gr8 about yourself.Keep me posted n hang in brother!

  • @williamblair11 Unfortunately my doc cut me off in May because I went through a voluntary detox for pre/post spinal surgery morphine (Pain Management was unnecessary), but my doc refused to reintroduce Ativan, as he was "not an expert in detox", though he attempted to slow-taper me 2 years earlier. ER wouldn't do it either, though they fully understood. Legal liability issue. Seven years of the stuff, with a six day taper!? Life's been hell since, but doin' what I can to help others. Thanks.

  • It has been nearly two months since I began the tapering process and am happy to say that I no longer take xanax at all! I am currently taking 20mg. valium in the morning and 20mg. at night. Tomorrow I taper down to 18mg. twice daily followed by 16mg. , 14mg., and so on and so forth. This process has been amazingly painless for me! Quiting is not all that hard, please remember to go about this SLOWLY as to minimize any discomfort. I will post again in 30 days, God bless!

  • @carlorocky Left a message for you before I saw this post. Wish I'd had the Valium option before my Dr. dumped me in the cold with no taper, due to his legal concerns. Good luck, and look forward to your next post!

Another "Feral cat on crack in traffic!"

  • @stillmissheath2 DO NOT use suboxone!! Its almost as bad as methadone if taken over 2 weeks! I have been on it 4 yrs and can not get off. The w'ds last months. I have experienced them myself, and I have heard its a worse withdrawal than heroin b/c of how long the w'ds are.Take it from me not a doc who makes money off somenew narcotic to replace. Sub is only used as a drug for long term heroin addicts.I took it, got really really high and loved it. Now I can't get off. Benzos are hard enough.

  • To clarify, I encourage those with serious mental illness to hang on and HOPE for the future. There are people who care about you.

  • I was able to come of Ativan (for anxiety, only 1mg/nightly for 1 yr) without many withdrawal symptoms, but I will tell you all that at about 2 weeks off of it, I woke one morning, got into the shower and experienced the most frightening thing: All of a sudden my mind felt cloudy and noises and voices were running through my head confusing me and making me feel literally INSANE. I thought, oh my God, I've lost my mind, snap out of it, you're going to an institution, it's over, etc...

  • @opinioncentrul It was the most terrifying experience and that feeling wouldn't shake for about 1 hour - as I was begging God to free me of the feeling while driving to work. It hasn't happened since (3 wks). I only reason I went on it was for medium social anxiety. I have no major diagnosis of any kind. I now feel utter empathy for those with schizophrenia, etc. The hell in their head! I'd rather die than experience again what I did that morning. Benzos are more powerful than imagined

  • I must leave this bit of encouragement to humanity. I have been on 6mg. xanax taken all at one sitting for the past 11 years. I had tried to quit on countless occasions without success. Dr. Ashton`s manual has been a God send for me! For the first time I have tapered down to 3.5mg of xanax painlessly in just over one month. I still have a while to go but I am very confident that this endeavor will be a complete success. I will keep you all posted on my progression. Thank you and God bless!

  • @carlorocky Keep going you will achive your goal I Cold Turkey 2mg of Klonopin was living in hell for 8 months but i'm waaaaaaaaay better know... I have a setback after a year off but its just anxiety and head ache no DP or DR or crazy stuff, you can do it as I did...

  • What if one were to speak without the aid of benzodiazpienes? I ask you that, fellow droogies, that if sustaining oneslef to an addiction to benzxo's is worth even speaking at all (aphonia).

  • does anyone know how to taper from klonopin? I understand there is another benzo you can take simultaneously to migrate to to help the taper since klono doesn't have many dose options.

  • @SuperOxideDimutase I read that Valium is what doctor's prescribe for the transition. It's not a benzo.

  • @opinioncentrul Diazepam (Valium) is indeed a benzo. You cross to Valium, then taper off. Supposedly eases withdrawal, I guess I'll find out :)

  • @SuperOxideDimutase Best of luck to you!

  • @opinioncentrul Valium is most certainly a benzo....do some research. Its a longer lasting half life. To get offf xanax, ativan, and the shorter benzos...

  • @rsohlich1 Thx for the info.

  • @opinioncentrul hope I can help....I have been in rehabs 5 times to get off xanax, ativan, you name it. I was a benzo/opiate addict. Both are hell. Please, just taper if u are on them and do it slowly so ur body can readjust. Hope you have a great day. All my love and support to everyone struggling!!! It will pass!

  • Free online support BenzoWithdrawal co m

  • benzos are poison. First let me say I've been addicted to opiates for a long time and have dealt with opiate withdrawal many times. I thought that was hell. Until I got involved with benzos. Benzos are 10 times worse. With Opiate withdrawal, yeah you feel sick but after a week or 2 you can function alright without them and you're on your way. With benzos it takes weeks and weeks, months and even years. Ive been off over a month and still feel withdrawal, only took it for 2 months! its poison

  • @csplendrig I just hit 5 months (after 6 day BS taper after 7 year high dose use), and as anxious as ever. How are you doing?

  • @laaxe still not doing good. I screwed up and took an ambien a month a go and I feel like that took me back a couple steps...thanks for asking, hope u are doing ok

  • @csplendrig Believe me, I sure don't see this as a "one step at a time" deal! We need to do what ever we have to do to keep our heads on, and get to better days. If I hadn't started taking Trazadone for sleep, I'd still be getting 2 to 3 hrs sleep a night like the first month.

    Hang in there, my friend!

  • @laaxe you're right. I have a lot of experience going through opiate withdrawal and with that you can pretty much count down the days and feel yourself getting normal again. With this, you could have 3 months in a row with absolutely no change at all in getting better

  • Two posts reversed - Today, after exhausting doctor & E.R's unwillingness to now help taper past two days, there was finally closure. I was on my own. MINDLESS RELAXATION/DISTRACTIONS (watching TV, slow deep breaths, dog walks, etc.) helping greatly! Don't beat yourself up now!.

Your brain is repairing its self & you're becoming the old, caring (pre-Benzo) you" that you, & everyone else liked before this Rx mess!

  • HOPE THESE TWO POSTS HELP SOMEONE

I'm 11 days past a 6 day (post spinal surg/volountary/hospital supervised, partially tapered, seven year/high dosage abrupt Benzo/Xanax-like (Ativan brand = lorazepam) Morphine/increasing Alc. detox.

Understandably researching remedies, Benzo history, etc. has (in my case) only increased the mind-racing, agitated, sleepless, hellish days/nights!

  • Just looking at the standard of posted comments for this video, it's clear that many of the people here are fucked up off benzos!

  • @jarradcoombsroxxors here here now thats uncalled for :)

  • @egobraind1 lol!!!

  • I hope someone follows in her shoes, she won't be around forever. I wish I could take her with me to my next doctor appointment, cutting mine by 25 percent a week after 8 years of use.

  • Only short-term never long-term

  • benzos are the best medicine made in the last fifty years they make you difine yourself and make you happy and no stress they also give you direction in your life from negative life media dirived from anything from tv to worry to doomsday or a tragedy like a parent dying with a illness or just to relax it is in my opion the best and only medicine to help anxiety...........................

  • @overlillthomas Wait to you hit tolerance... it can happen anytime at any place.... then you will have to withdrawal! Good Luck, and I do mean good luck, you won't stay on it forever... we all say that until the poison poops out on you!

  • May GOD Bless, Heather, I MEAN THAT!!!!!!!!!

  • i cT valium and i now into my 8 month of withdrawal

  • I tapered very slowly when I got down to 2 mg. in valium...decreased by .5 every two weeks, then at 1 mg., decreased .5 every three weeks. I'm off now and feeling no withdrawal. However, I'm also on an MAOI inhibitor and, at least for my brain chemistry, I think being on it is a factor in that, maybe a huge factor. My concern are the cognitive deficits and memory lapses which my psychiatrist never seemed to tell me would happen. I hope they go away eventually.

  • Long period of taper is key - I tapered off benzo's over a 5 month period and the withdrawal symtoms were very manageable - tried to stop with just a month of taper before and it was absolute hell and I nearly died - It is over 18 months since my last benzo intake - life is now great, anyone can do it, but a slow taper is the key to success - as the Dr says, whats the rush? - slowly, safely and comfortably - give the brain a chance to adjust - search 'half life of benzodiazapine' to learn more.

  • I read some never fully recover, u r lucky.

  • free online group support benzowithdrawal com

  • We need more doctors like her here in the US. Her manual has been incredibly helpful to me as I slowly taper off Klonopin.

  • anyone who feels hopeless, please understand: if dumb ass me can come off them, anyone can! Don't give up hope (even if you think theres is none.) I agree that a gradual process is the only way to go for me. I have tried cold turkey, have gone to detox/rehabs, and ended right back on them. I believe for me willingness and time are the only treatments for this!

  • saving lives

  • I've been prescribed Klonopin since 1999-starting at 1mg-to 6mg's, my latest MD Hounshell, took me off of my meds cold turkey-The insomnia, pshychosis etc, led to Police being called, court cases, actions I would never dream of!!!! Please hold your MD responsible for tapering off your dose!-Suz-Facing 18 mo probation...besides the recent brain hemorrhage and crainiotomy. FAIR? I think not!!!

  • I agree

  • very interesting post! I'm in the process tapering now, and it's going very well. I'm controlling it myself, and I found that in the past 5 months I've only had one very small anxiety attack. Your body has to adjust, as well as your emotional state. I concur with this lady 100%.

  • Michael Jackson & I have one thing in common. Lorazepam! I came off it with great difficulty. I had the convulsions etc. and as my doctors had no idea and no support withdrawal was a nightmare. It took seven years and I am only just back to normal.

Benzo kills! Many of my Benzo friends have died. A slow taper may work but it is not infallible.

In the directions which come with the drug it clearly states that Benzos should never be mixed with other drugs and yet doctors still do this. Criminal!

  • ive been on xanax too long . i started with 0.5mgs than 0.5mgs than i went up to 1mgs over the yrs , now im on bars 2mgs 3 times a day , plus sleeping pills restoril 30mgs for insomnia , from steve

  • im steve and ive been on xanax for 15 yrs now ..im 38 yrs old ..its the only drug that helps my dizzy spells ..plus panic attacks ...hey i say if it works why not use it right ?

  • because anxiety and panic attacks can be easily conquered over a period of just a few months by learning meditation.

benzos on the otherhand, are often a lifelong addiction.

in many (or most?) cases, people need to up their dose because the drug stops working properly.

once ur on a 2 high dose and you feel like u need to up the dose again, u may find that the doctor can not up the dose anymore becoz the dose would be considered 2 dangerous.

soon or later everyone needs to come off eventually

  • I was a meditator before panic disorder... But you are right about the dose adjusment. These drugs are not the way to go.

  • I <3 Ativan.

  • i agree there is no subsitute for benzo

withdrawal this things are worse then

    heroin.

at least heroin addicts have methadone.

  • There is not one thing wrong with maintaing a stable patient on a benzodiazepine or low dose barbiturate.

What is really sad is when overzealous practitioners insist on withdrawing an elderly or middle aged patient that has been stable on a benzo for years, oftentimes placing them on a low dose dangerous "atypical" anti-psychotic that causes diabetes or lets them suffer.

These do-gooder physicians should hve never received their licenses.

  • @ViacomSucks1 As you said, "There is not one thing wrong with maintaing a stable patient on a benzodiazepine or low dose barbiturate", when you are not them, and are not making bank on every visit! When the elderly retire, life slows down, and anxiety drops, there is NO need for such crap, but hey, they've no choice at that point, now do they. Another upper demographic (the elderly) helping YOU make your boat payment. And You are more worthy of a license?Greedy fuck!

  • @ViacomSucks1 My doctor at the time who "oversaw" my 30 day taper from Klonopin was a TOTAL MOTHERFUCKING PRICK. HE DID NOT GIVE A FUCK THAT I WAS IN SERIOUS MAJOR WITHDRAWL AND PRACTICALLY TOTALLY INCAPACITATED FOR MONTHS. ARROGANT PRICKHEAD POMPOUS ASSHOLE "DOCTOR" WHO SHOULD NOT BE CARING FOR HOUSEPLANTS, LET ALONE HUMAN BEINGS.

  • @ViacomSucks1 ,,,,,,my grandmother is going threw wut u called overzealous practitioners ...fuckers

  • @ViacomSucks1

Klonopin is addictive and for short term use. It is no more safe than any other drug that you label "atypical"

She is not suggesting other types of drugs as adjuvants. She is referring to replacing drugs like Klonopin with a lesser addictive benzo each time you titrate down. Then you ween off of the adjuvant until you are drug free. If you read her protocol like I did you would know this. She says nothing about substituting with anti-psychotic drugs that I can recall

  • I agree with you. Benzos are safe as long as they are not used for long period of time at a high dosage.

  • I recommend getting the new Benzo-Wise book and using it with the Ashton Manual to come off benzos. That book is awesome! You can find out about it on the Benzo-Wise website. It will save you from getting depressed. I keep reading it over and over again. I love it!

  • I have severe anxiety and klonopin is excellent if you dont abuse it,antidepressants dont kill my anxiety.I an not depressed thank god, just a nervous wreck

  • i know the feeling, i hate ssri's.

  • actually by using the drug you perpetuate the fear cycle. The best way to get off Klonopin for example is to follow a tapering regime together with hypnosis or self-hypnosis sessions. It really works. I am telling you from personal experience.

  • @jakeryan37 Let me tell you the facts! If you continue to use klonopin for your anxiety than you will not only suffer from dependence to this horrific drug but you will suffer brain damage as well. Your concentration and cognitive function will be so impaired that you'll never be the same. Get off of this poison asap and turn to natural homeopathic remedies and not the mind altering poison your doctor prescribed for you. He gets a big bonus from the big pharma everytime he finds a sucker.

  • @jakeryan37 I'm on Klonopin for the same reasons. Benzodiazepine medications aren't for "curing" the underlying problem. They should be viewed as a symptomatic treatment. Antidepressants work differently by gradually Psychotherapy the level of Serotonin in the brain.

  • I'm talking to the people that are having constant anxiety or panic after stopping benzo's. My sister had benzo withdrawls or damage for 5 years untill hyperbaric oxygen, I had benzo withdrawls for 4 years & constant for several years more untill starting Hbot. Please don't give up! There is for real major hope.

  • Anyone dealing with benzo withdrawal should check out a website called Benzo Wise - it is amazing!

  • I wish i could have met this wonderful lady when i stopped benzodiazepine, maybe she could have saved me from a living hell.

  • i am presently weening off, and my shrink said when i'm ddown to zero I won't freak out, i do that now but very minimally, its working, after 28 years. p.s. ambien has a benzo in it.good luck.a 12 step program also support

  • the only thing that will cure a severe panic attack is a benzo like klonopin.NOT ANTIFUCKING DEPRESSANTS

  • Are you speaking as an experienced patient?

  • She makes a good point that stoping taking drugs is not just about being abstinent, its also to do with learning how to live life without the drugs.

  • Most doctors in Manitoba give Benzos out to be used as sleeping pills....you are right they are not for that and they are not to be used on a permenent basis...the side effects are horrible....if they are used not for the right reason.

  • you dont understand what they do. they're not sleeping drugs. there for people with phycological nervous system disorders. Benzo's are the only choice for some individuals who inherit such genetic properties.

  • You don't know what your talking about - they ARE used for insomnia, as well as anxiety disorders. I should know, as I'm a Pharmacist.

  • I am going through benzo withdrawal right now. I was on 1 mg a day for years. It helped me alot when I first went on it...I thought it saved my life. But going through these withdrawals I would GLADLY take back all the help they gave me when I first went on them! They are evil lil pills! And btw I have NEVER abused them!

  • xanax saved mine

  • valium is the drug that saved my life.

    just dont abuse it people.

  • I hope one day doctors will have to take the meds they actually prescribe instead of relying on the FDA's known symptoms...

  • Dear Lynn,

If you ever still reading this page maybe you can give me some advice? You were so kind and you help awful lot. How was 'this' fot you? Did you manage from day one without any problems? Have you done it on your own or somebody's help ? Thanks - Dorotaa

  • Oh God - I'm really not coping well. I believe that living on my own and having no family or close friends is a main factor. I'll do anything to come off benzos but unfortunately I pick on time when I've several serious problems to sort out and putting my loniless and problems all together make me only to come back to take higher dosage. Can anyone have had simmilar experience like I do? Can someone give me some advice what shall I do in order to gae out of this mess?

  • anyone heard of "ibogaine" or "ibocaine" used for withdrawl of alcohol and drugs? am unsure of suitability of use for benzodiazapines. research "deborah Mash+ibogaine"

  • I think person who manage to reduce dosage and succed very 1-st time is a hero. I'm trying to do is now. Unfortunately I've some serious problems to sort it now and when 10 pm comes the fear of (???) which I feel is overhelming. As a results I've few 'relapses' and took more pills then need it. I hate myself for it but I never will give up idea of coming off this 'magic pills for ever'. Being on yr own, doing it on yr own without any support is the most awful things of all.

  • benzo's are the worst drugs on the planet legal or illegal. They should be banned PERIOD. I can't think of one good reason why this stuff is legal, unless there's a market for brain damage.

  • Because they help people that aren't you, and the world doesn't revolve around your needs and experiences, however bad they may have been.

How self-absorbed is that mentality? "I had a bad experience with something, therefore it should be illegal for everyone under all circumstances."

  • I work in a rehab center and our worst cases are from benzodiazepine's. All other illegal and legal drugs pale in comparison to the destructive nature on the brain that these drugs cause. If you're ok with the evil's of this drug, I could care less. I care for those who want to get off them. I see a large majority of society who are completely disfunctional for years and have lives completely obliterated from benzo's, it is a chemical labotomy plain and simple.

  • I just detoxed from 8mg per day xanax to nothing in 12 days in an inpatient facility against my will. I was prescribed >4mg Xanax / Alprazolam for FOUR years.... This is my 2nd day on nothing - they used phenobarbitol and librium to control seizures and discharged me for refusing to attend AA meetings (i dont drink). I wish I had had this video earlier - i think im going to go insane.

  • This video should be sent to all UK GPs. I am tapering off Valium (now 3.5mgs p.n) but have to go abroad for help. Turned away by 2 GPs who don't accept 'benzo' patients. Another would only take me as a patient if I followed their fast, inappropriate withdrawal. Finally found a GP who will have me as a patient as long as they don't have to write the prescription. I have fibromyalgia and severe insomnia & taper down 1/2mg every 4 months, which I can cope with. How can I contact Dr Ashton?

  • i was put on Benzos by a Dr from the Priory and I didnt even have anxiety! so its not a case of learning to control your anxiety its a case of the Drs learning about the drugs they prescribe.

Dr Ashton, I believe is not practising any longer, but a lady called Pam Armstrong who started the charity CITA in Liverpool is my angel - she helped me come off Benzos safely, but it was still hell!!!

  • Dear One - can you help me and quide to this lady who helps you so much? - I'll so grateful- Thank you very much

  • Sorry my message was sent to lynnparryjones. Thanks

  • Hi,

Pam Armstrong can be contacted via the website cita - dont know the website address but im sure you can google it - pam has written an excellent book with everything you ned to know.

Good luck and contact me if you have a problem finding the address - I will have a another look or call pam myself.

Much love, keep going you will get there!

    Kind regards Lynn

  • Thank you very much Lynn - my biggest dream now is 2 come off this 'magic pills' who now lead and ruin my life. Additionally they are not available in UK and my trips to Europe cost me not only money but nerves as well. Anyway I'll try my best to goggle this lady website address - and if I'll not succesfull I turn to you for your help.Thank you for being so kind - best wishes - Dorota

  • Hi Dorota,

Are you in the UK? and what medication are you on.

    Kind regards Lynn

  • Hi Lynn - yes I live in UK but I'm on benzo not av here - Bromazepamum and sometimes Tetrazepam(not Temazepam). In 2001 I went through several traumas and as results I've developed AWFULLY painful muscular spassm in my back, legs, hands and neck. 4 3 years I've been suffering of sciatica, back pain, awful migraine. I was going from doc 2 doc : took unlimited ammount of painkillers, antiinflammatory, antimigraines pills and ahd been offered antidepressants which they never have wotked 4 me

  • I went 2 every sinle alternative therapy centre - I've 3-4 osteopath's deep tissues massages etc. Nothing has helped. I went 4 holiday 2 my country 2 Back Pain Centre. Neurologist DIDN'T ASKED ME AT ALL about my mental state and put me on this 'magic benzos'as muscle relaxers'. I was 'cured' in 24 hrs. I felt good. I always get supply of it - till now. I've developed high tolerance

with time - it was worse few years ago - now I'm only taking them at night but still very high dosage. Thanks Lynn

  • Hi Lynn - of course I meant about having 3-4 alternative therapy treatments A WEEK 4 3 YEARS living in agony. Yes I was very upset about everything what has happenned in my life. But now I feel more alert, better day or 2 without them, I feel they are poizoinig me!!!. But still I'm scare to bones of withdrawal but at the same time would love go 'cold turkey'. I'm mentally exausted of being on this 'magic pills but also terrified that if I stop taking them all painful spasms will return xx-Dorota

  • Hi dorota

DO NOT GO COLDTURKEY it never works the brain cannot take and will not adjust...it has to be gradual with expert help. Have you found Pam's contact details yet? Have not heard of the pills you are but I suspect they are a Benzo from the names???

Try to contact Pam she will guide you. There is no way round withdrawal you just have to go through it - but believe me it is SO woth it - physically, mentally, its liek shedding an old skin.

  • Hi Lynn - thank you very much for your reply.

Ive manage google info about CITA but have no idea how do you contact Pam herself. Maybe you will be able to help me please? And - yes - Bromazepamum and Tetrazepamum are benzos - unfortunately - kind regards - Dorota

  • Hello Lynn - only 1 week later I would like to thank you very much for your help and guidelines. I did contact CITA, they put me in touch with Pam Armstrong who has JUST called me and we have our 1-st consultation.

So I began my coming off regime - which I'm scared a bit but I'll do it. I've never heard about CITA before , I was wondering what shall I do and getting more stressed.

Lynn !!! Thank you very, very much one more time again

    Best wishes

    Dorota

  • hi Dorota,

what fab news! I know its hard not to panic but please be assured you are in the best hands possible - Pam Armstrong is the best - I call her my Angel Armstrong she will get you there, it wont be easy but nothing worth having is, and what you get in the end is happiness and freedom - keep in touch much love Lynn x

  • Hi Lynn - thank you very much and I obviously will kep in touch. Now I've new obstacle on my way - I've got hooked on Bromazepam which I always get it from doc from my country and which is not av in UK. In my country U r coming off benzos which you hooked on; in UK you have to always switch 4 Valium. My GP dasn't know about my problem. I sense I'll benzos-free bankcrupt if I'll get Valium from on-line pharmacies. May I know which benzos U were on and how long did it take U 2 come off? - xxDorota

  • Hi Dorota,

Zopiclone, a sleeper still the same action, Lorazepam and Valium took me 11 months. total 20mg.

My understanding of benzo's is that they all have the same action on the brain regardless of what they are called bu the manufacturer. But Pam will put you right, she will negotiate with your dr if necessary, don't worry!!! You are at the start of something GOOD, eventhough it does'nt seem it. Listen to Pam and e mail me if you need to - good luck!!!

    love lynn xx

  • These things are evil. I almost had cardiac arrest the other day, because my body has built tolerance to my current dose of Ativan. It's like withdrawl symptoms on steroids. Almost jumped off a bridge out of desperation. Good luck to anyone on this stuff, and those that aren't should heed the warning.

  • I was in a detox for 45 days ......they need seperate place for people on Benzos it is NO JOKE!

  • Hey idiot, most of us that are addicted to "boring benzos" are addicted because we were put on the drugs by doctors during treatment without properly being informed as to their addictive nature, not because we wanted to have an "interesting" and "fun" time using chemicals to fuck with our brains as you apparently do. Retard.

  • whoa.. relax, it wasnt meant as an insult, although looking back i can see how it may have been taken in the wrong way .. however i do guess that if you managed your anxiety issues properly you wouldnt have needed the meds to begin with. but everyone blames the GP.. you should have read the warnings before getting addicted.. good luck whiner

  • i use clonazepam 2mg diary fucking hell.... but be strong!

  • clonazepam does jack shit - thats a crap drug

  • im steve ive been on xanax for 13 yrs now ...it started with dizzyspells than i went to a doctor and he gave me prozac than it didnt work so they tried paxil and that didnt work so they started me on a benzo which is xanax i started with half tablet of a 0.5mgs 3 times a day it helped me now im on 2mgs a dose 3 times a day xanbar 2mgs plus im on somas 350mgs plus oxycodone 10/325mgs 4 times a day im only 36 until nov 29th lol thats my birthday steve from cali
