'Oz: The Great and Powerful' To Feature Black & White Opening

I heard on GBTV a while ago that The Wizard of Oz was actually a Politcal statement and not just a movie. This seems interesting, Directors keep making Remakes of old movies. Whats next? Titanic? :I. I dont mind it just seems a little extravagant

This movie will obviously have nods to the film (ala the opening being black & white), but it will be more based on the books. This is apparent due to the fact that Joey King is playing "China Girl" which was in the books and not the original film. Sam Raimi (Spider-Man series) is directing, so I have a lot of faith in the film and am for one excited to see how it comes out.

There has already been sequels and prequels to Wizard of Oz, just only one of them 'offical'. I think the cenematic effect of B/W to color is the only way to go with an official prequel or sequel for it though.

@Yrpffx21234 'Wicked' was in a sense a prequel, but this film will focus on how the Wizard came to Oz and his relationship with the witches. Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz will be playing the other 2 witches.

sounds like an awful idea, i mean, I believe in the 'Wicked' universe now and Disney is soon to release that, i like that idea of a deeper story behind all the characters and i think this prequel is just a cheap idea, like all those crappy straight to dvd movies that no one hears about. if this movie comes out in cinemas, i will no see it. i'm waiting for Wicked and defying gravity

Is this really needed? Surley one sequel (Wicked) is enough?! If there was to be a Wicked movie in the works, this will definatley set it back a while as they wont wanna release it so close together! This happened when i was excited for a 'The Looking Glass Wars' movie, then Tim Burton decided to make his average attempt at an Alice in Wonderland, making it harder for a more worthy movie to be made. IMO

They could make this into a trilogy because they could make this prequel then they could remake The Wizard Of OZ then they could remake The Return To OZ but they could put a much bigger story behind them and make them fit together you could really make a bigger franchise with it and have the story all full told.

@syafiqjabar I think he meant making another Oz movie after the perfect 30s one is a bad idea. Dark Knight was great because it revived a dead franchise. Star Wars is possibly the best sci-fi franchise, Indi is possibly the best adventure movies, Matrix was awesome (*AHEM #2 &3....).
