I watched this concert all my youth in VHS, totally ruining the tape. I'm a big boy now, nearly 30, and still crying at the end of the show. The emotional charge in this concert is phenomenal. My favorite artists/bands paying tribute to, imo, the best frontman ever, for a great cause, with respect and humility. It's humanity at its best.
Releasing the ENTIRE concert in Bluray would be a wonderful gift for all Queen fans.
@NounourSOAD I'm glad you mentioned it - there's a video on my channel where I try to get people to sign a petition to get the whole concert released on Blu-ray Disc. If I can get enough signatures, I'll send it to Brian May or Roger Taylor and wait for their verdict.
Jakob Dylan must've told the Wallflowers he couldn't make it, so they got Bowie to sing his original song that sucks in only his special way. Greta job trying to make him sound good, Wallflowers.:-)
Freddie died the year before I was born but I love his music a lot so I cry every time I watch this concert even though I really only got to know his music the past couple of years. I grew up on David Bowie though, thanks to my wonderful mother, and he is pretty much God to me. IF, IF IF IF!!!!! He ever dies, I honestly don't know what I'd do. I think I'd have to have a sick day and bawl in the fetal position all day long...
I'm not afraid to say that I cried ALOT when I saw this. a perfect song performed by perfect musicians as a perfect tribute for the world's greatest performer. wow, wow and wow again!!!
Well, the music ain't dead yet, I totally agree with the bieber crap and lady gaga.. -.- Although listen to Lykke li or Globus. Not the same type of music, but both very artistic and interesting.
magic freddie was pure magic no one can even come close to him, they all can try and fail im sorry i call it as i hear it no one can ever do as good as freddie rip my friend
THERE'S SOMETHING NONE OF TRUE ROCK FANS WILL EVER SEE AGAIN....BOWIE, ELTON JOHN ,EURYTHMICS,GUNS N ROSES, EXTREME, METALLICA, AND COUNTLESS OTHERS ON THE SAME FUCKING STAGE ...YEAH NEVER AGAIN ! AND THAT..MAKES ME TREMENDOUSLY SAD !
I love songs in the past than the songs in the present. I appreciate this more than the rock songs. I hate how they go dramatic with romantic love when you should not actually be today. Songs in the past mean more than the songs of the present time. I'm a 1990s kid and I want to stay in that time :(
such a generic statement claiming music is crap these days. justin bieber is not a fair representation of todays industry. if anything this is the period of the most diverse and intricate music in history but no-one seems to dig deep enough, it's almost like a lot of people don't want to dig deep enough and are content with having something to moan about saying how theirs were the glory years. LOOK DEEPER THAN WHAT'S IN THE CHARTS!
@1HOLYDIVER1, you are definately right about the incredibly diverse music that is around nowadays. The problem is though - you have to dig to find it. Songs like Heroes, etc, etc were in the charts. That's the main difference. Yes we had some crap chart music and Justin Beibers like Leif Garrett and bad, bad songs like Paloma Blanca. They were bad! As I said, the real difference is we also had the best music in the charts. I'm 48 and remember all this wonderful music well.
@pastst I started out searching "Delilah" by Freddie Mercury, the song about his cat on google, then I ended up here. But man I wish I could've been there!
ATTENTION all Queen fans,On September 5th, Freddie's birthday, we will be watching Bohemian Rhapsody repeatedly all day to boost its view count up to at the least 700,000,000 views. You don’t even have to listen to it. You can just keep playing the video back to back all the way through without sound. We’re doing this to compete with Justin Bieber's garbage music videos & to make Queen be heard across Youtube. Copy& Paste this across all Queen videos. Spread the word!
I saw this on TV and i recordered on a Video 2000 System. This Tribute was more as 6 hours and i had all of my copy. But my mother destroyed this copy. This Tribute was really a Tribute. Excellent musiceans for an excellen performer, singer and genius.
But one lonely question. Give one person which have the full concert on VHS or DVD ????
@TheHaxalot it is our duty to make sure the younger genrations will have the same feelings we do when we hear it. i love music and i check out the new stuff. you have to met them half way. i love emeniem, you have to be willing to check new stuff out to, you might find something you like. i can appreciate all sorts of music. as a singer myself i check out newer stuff. queen songs are featured in the rock band game. music bridges gaps, fills in spaces words can't. rock on!!
@TheHaxalot gaga ain't that bad (she called hereself lady gaga because of radio gaga)and most beautifull music isn't dead, bieber is only important in youtube, few years later people won't remember him
I am convinced that they can do all the Live Aids they want... and all the tribute songs like We Are The World 25.. but nothing can ever live up to this concert.
I wish I had been alive to have seen this concert..
There really is good accessable modern music out there. I did not expect to find my favorite band in my 40s, but Arcade Fire are for me the best live act i have seen and belive me i've sen a lot !
@krazyk1d26 Not that guy?? Go use google or wikipedia or whatever young guy tool you got and look up David Bowie. Like Freddy (and more so) one of the greatest influences in music.
@TheHaxalot Well the sad thing is you look at this stuff on youtube and it gets a few thousand hits and and all the other crap gets 40 million hits. The world has gone crazy.
@TheHaxalot There is less grounds to break now, but good music is still made. Instead of complaning about the state of music today, you should be happy that you can enjoy the old heroes while experiencing some of the new artists that do make great music.
(On another note; Lady Gaga is not that far from Bowie actually, being a very visual artist with a good sense of pop melodies. And no! I am not saying Lady Gaga is as good as Bowie or is the Bowie of our time. She is talented though).
watched the dvd the other day for 1st time in ages, and this was the best non queen song performed, the start when mick and roger set up the song just gets me all the time!
@TheHaxalot i don't totaly agree whit u on lady gaga, but what is worst(in Romania)cause thats where i am from is that all the good music from todays artists is not being played at the radio.Almost all the radio stations in my country play the shitiest house music from the shitiest DJs.I think there are good artists today and personally i think lady gaga is one of them, but everybody wants to listen to house music which is worst than watching Twilight but thats how it is.
@TheHaxalot - There was PLENTY of crap back then too...which was a huge part of what made stuff like David Bowie so great in the first place. A real songwriter and personality among a bunch of tasteless, middle of the road crap will stick out like a sore thumb.
@PortugalFreaks - He is using an E-Bow (makes the strings sustain when you hold it above them, kind of like bowing an orchestral string instrument). It was probably the most practical way for him to mimic what Robert Fripp did on the studio version of the song.
hot tramp! i love you sooo! and panic in detroit, just a couple of my favorites. and wasn't it bavid bowie who said, " this aint rock and roll, this is genacide!! on the diamond dogs album!!
Big names singing there: David Bowie, Elton John, George Michael, Guns 'n' Roses.. a long list.. Yet they don't compensate one Freddie Mercury.. How great a loss it is for music :(
Bowie was born with blueish eyes. In 1962, he got into a fight with his longtime school friend George Underwood (over George's girlfriend), and a punch from Underwood damaged Bowie's left eye. His pupil was paralyzed, becoming unable to dilate or contract according to the ambient light.
As a result, Bowie's left eye now appears to be a different colour to his right eye, appearing either brown or green depending on the ambient light.
Its a real shame you cant buy this concert - There is a DVD, but its only the second half (Queen performing with the others) - But the first part was still great - Guns & Roses, Extreme, Paul Young desperately (and failing it has to be said ) to match anywhere close to Freddies pitch. A class concert. 19 years old now....god thats depressing lol
@SuperMattley - Interesting comment about 'Sounds like violin or cello' because Mick Ronson wanted first to be a cello player, but it's a big intrument for a little kid, so they gave him a violin first....THEN he heard Duane Eddy, and it was GEEEE-TAR, here I come! RIP Mick.
This is edited. If you listen and watch the live recording the guitar player screws up BIG time and Bowie isn't pleased to say the least. He even forgets his own lyrics. They edited that whole section.
Brian also screwed up all his solo's during this entire concert. Must be the sorrow from Freddy's passing. Al the "Bad" solo's where ALL edited and corrected for album and video release.
I was at this concert. As a teenager, I didn't really appreciate how momentous this performance was at the time, but have come to appreciate it so much more over time.
Agreed, so much - Was my first ever concert - I was 19, and thought all concerts were this magical....they wernt. Still the best concert I ever went to, and Bowie was the absolute highlight for me :-) Just didnt realise how massive this was at the time.
I'm from Hull and once there was a memorial stage built in his honour in Hull, dont know if it is sill there but there should have been a fucking great 20 foot bronze statute of him in the town centre in the act of strumming that Les Paul Black Beauty. The late great Mick Ronson
@CourierSeraphim it's called an e-bow, it's kind of a big magnets that interacts with the pick-ups in a way. Google will give you a much better description than me
@SuperOxideDimutase - Mick died exactly a year after this concert. On April 29th, 1993...what a sad loss. If you compare how Mick looked in say, 1990, he is really thin and wasting away here, but "boy, could he play guitar...."
Awesome line up!Can't believe it's been that long ago. Besides Concert For New York version by Bowie, plus the truly heartfelt emotion in each, Has to be my two faves. John D. is KILLER on bassline, Mick Ronson....no need....it's all been said. All of those Legends there for Freddie.....Just Magnificent! R.I.P. Freddie....R.I.P. Mick.
I remember I was stunned to see this on MTV when it aired in the early 90`s. Mick Ronson E-bowing his telecaster getting a killer crying sound that ran with emotion and fit the mood perfectly. This whole concert was one of the greatest moments in rock history. Long live Freddie Mercury and Mick Ronson.
Wow what a crowd! I have seen many songs from this concert, and they are all great!
I really wish with all my heart that Freddie would still be with us,and he was and is loved by so many people. He truly was the greatest singer in the world.R.I.P Freddie!
i'm get this concert on dvd thumbs up if you too!!

Hands down, the best part of the concert. Was a magical day. First concert I ever went to, and still the best.

@brunus: it's E-bow. A magnetic bow for guitar, used to make guitar souds like violn or cello, making the notes playing for infinite time.
SuperMattley 1 year ago

@chaffonline
Agreed, so much - Was my first ever concert - I was 19, and thought all concerts were this magical....they wernt. Still the best concert I ever went to, and Bowie was the absolute highlight for me :-) Just didnt realise how massive this was at the time.

Mick Ronson with Bowie, just great.
I'm from Hull and once there was a memorial stage built in his honour in Hull, dont know if it is sill there but there should have been a fucking great 20 foot bronze statute of him in the town centre in the act of strumming that Les Paul Black Beauty. The late great Mick Ronson

Queen show their phenomenal talent. Amazing performances by John on bass, Roger on drums and Brian on guitar.

Anyone kno what that black thing Mick Ronson was using during the beginning riff?
CourierSeraphim 1 year ago
@CourierSeraphim it's called an e-bow, it's kind of a big magnets that interacts with the pick-ups in a way. Google will give you a much better description than me

i can't believe Mick died only a couple of years after this.
SuperOxideDimutase 1 year ago

Long live Freddie Mercury and Mick Ronson.

the BEST interpretation of heroes ever. it sounds like the guitars weep because of freddie's death.
