Christmas has pagan roots, there is no question. But like you said, peoples hearts can be open to the Gospel of Christ during this season.

Chrismas is what you make of if. No Christian that I know would promote the excessive commercialization of Christmas. But if your emphasis is on the birth of a Savior, and your primary activity is praising God, then Christmas can be a blessed time.

It is a wonderful time for tasteful church programs and music.

So what is the harm?

I personally do not celebrat it, but that is my point. Why would someone preach the law, making it a stumbling block to those only learning, and yet break it by celebrating pagan gods? I have no issue with you celebrating xmas, nor keeping the sabbath. However, Jesus said woe to those who cause stumbling blocks. We are all at different levels, and need to be careful.

If you will read Poplock009's post is seems that not all SDAs are on the same page on this prohibition.

My point is that there are a lot of people, like youself, on You Tube that that speak against ANY celebration of Christmas, whatsoever. And that is fine.

But, I know a lot of SDAs and have spoken to a lot over the years. I have not found a single SDA that does not celebrate Christmas, or Easter.

i'm an SDA and i celebrate christmas and easter but not like how the world celebrates it wat i mean is that when christmas time comes around i don't give gifts, or put up a christmas tree because those things have nothing to do with christmas it is about the birth of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ and let's no forget easter, easter has nothing to do with an easter bunny it has to do with when jesus was resurrected but ppl tend to get carried away

Christmas, Easter, Valentines, Halloween, etc. All holidays are meant to counterfiet God's Holy days, just as Sunday is meant to counterfiet the Sabbath. They are pagan. When we place His name on pagan days we break commandment 3, when we celebrate those pagan gods in His name we break number 1, and when we decorate our homes for the holidays we break #2. It is spiritual adultery. "Ye worship me in vain. My name is on ur lips, heart is far from me. For you teach commands and traditions of men.

Also, to offend in one is to be guilty of all. So if we keep the sabbath, but break the others we are still guilty. Jeremiah ten speaks of the christmas tree. Don't be dismayed at signs in the sky like heathen, and deck trees with silver and gold, for it is vain. Xmas was a winter solstice, where they burned live sacrifices, children, etc. to the sun in the sky, so it would return for the crops. The tree, mistletoe, etc. were all signs of the pagan gods. You can look it up in any encyclopedia.

Good evening Trina. I think you should preach to your own choir. Put "SDA Christmas" in a You Tube Search. I think the horse is already out of the coral on this one. I watched everthing from "Jingle Bells" to interpretive dance pieces in SDA churches celebrating Christmas.

Songs, buildings and sinners are all instruments of the devil that have been turned into vessels for the worship of Christ. I see nothing wrong with reverantly celebrating the birth and resurrection of Christ.

Are you serious? Christ was NOT born December 25th. Not even close! However, many pagan gods were. Everytime you say Merry xmas you say "I Joy in the destruction of Christ!" Look in the Catholic Encyclopedia 597! My point is you cannot preach keep the commandments while you break every one with that sinister, satanic holiday. How hypocrital! If SDA's think they are saved for keeping one command when they break all the rest they are delusioned!

Then I am told I have to be a vegetarian, not say God or Jesus, but YEWEY or YESHEW, keep the law, keep the feasts, accept all the writings of EGW. Now you are telling me if I sing "Silent Night" or go to an Easter surise service I am condemned as well.

I thought if I believed and worshiped Jesus Christ, I would be saved.

I live in an SDA community in North Carolina. Half of the houses had Christmas decorations. The SDA Church had a wreath on the door and the sign had an invitation to a Christmas program.

My best friend is SDA and came from a very devout community. He says he doesn't know anyone who does NOT celebrate.

I don't know. It might be a geographical thing.

I think Jonathan meant that our Church doesnt try to focus on the commercial aspect of Christmas so much as the reason: Jesus Christ. There is nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas or decorating your house at that time of year once your true reason of celebration is because of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and realising what His birth means to us... She had a head injury as a child that can cause nervous system problems, and hallucinations. I agree with you about obedience. For if we love Him we keep His commandments. I just think we need to be careful preaching only SDA's keep it right. For even celebrating xmas is breaking all ten commandments. Yet, do SDA's not celebrate that pagan holiday? How can they do that, and push the Sabbath? To break one breaks all. Just out of honest love here, that's all I'm saying. Not to start any trouble.

With xmas, we understand that, that is the season that people are actually more receptive to Christ and so it is a very good opportunity to do mission. But we don't celebrate xmas as you rightly said, it is pagan

Also no one is saved by the law. We have to be careful not to let peoples thoughts control the outcome. Alot of people say SDA is based on works and soon enough, people will believe it. We are saved by the righteousness of Christ but when you know Christ, there comes a change in the life, a change that includes overcoming sin. But man wants this: I want to do what I want and be saved still. Thats the sinners dream but they don't like conviction

The "User" focuses on the wrong thing, what humans do or do not do. What we should focus on is what God has done and will do for us because he so loved us. We need to grow our love and faith for God by getting to know Him ourselves, not through the word or beliefs of others. If we do, we will so love and so believe in God (not ourselves) that he will be able to do whatever we ask of Him as he promises in John 15. We should be praising God every day.
