If I wanted to block Apollo believers, I would block plenty of them, and I would start with the very delusional ApolloWasReal (who calls me a psycho).

That computer is indeed a digital computer. High speed loops (gyro stabilization) were analogue, but guidance was digital. On the ground were mainframes and radio ranging, in the ship was the AGC (the computer), and also in the ship was a essentially a sextant that was used to align the guidance platform. Embedded systems are different, you can do a lot with very little processing power. You can take a 2 MHz machine and get response to input in under 5 microseconds (easily). No GUI.

In fact the AGC couldn't guide the space ship all by itself, it was not powerful enough to do all the guiding alone.

An analog computer was doing most of the job; only analog computers were efficient enough to guide planes and space ships at that time.

Digital computers only were of secondary help.

Because each pound carried aloft into space cost several thousand dollars in fuel, saving even a few pounds did matter.

I think it's clear there have been a warming in the climate, for some years, but so have there been many times before. But what cause it, if you look at the icecore, it's definitely not CO2. So why do we have these dogs barking about CO2 and global warming, for the reason these statist bark about all the other things ( now these statist assholes have found....fat as very bad, and their solution a tax ? what else ) for political reason, statism.

Ecologist predictors are not always right; I remember when they predicted in the seventies that within twenty years later the black forest (the forest near the border between Germany and France) would largely be devastated.

It did not happen.

If there is really a global warming or not, and if yes, what are its causes, is difficult to say.

But I believe in saving resources and not wasting them.

It's cool watching the footage of the mission control guys with their slide rules and cigarettes. It was all about having a strong mission vision with the nations best and brightest working on it and a nation / congress that had the patience and determination to make it happen. That was the great thing about the guys of that generation. They dreamed big and just DID IT. You don't need an exceptionally powerful computer to go to the Moon or any solar system body. If all it has to do is run a planned program to navigate and handle some onboard systems, that doesn't require large amounts of computational ability.

Recording music/video and graphic arts sure eat up a lot of memory,. though!

Hell, Buzz Aldrin used a sextant to navigate on the Gemini 12 mission. He also used his brain. The most sophisticated computational mechanism of all!

When you think about it yes it was amazing they got to the moon with such primitive technology.

But they didn't need a GUI also keep in mind the NASA of 1969 was far less risk adverse then the NASA of today.

They even took more risks then the Soviets did.

As for why the Soviets lost the moon race it's because they lost Korelev before the N1 could be fixed and they tried to cut corners but omitting a test stand for the N1 first stage and instead opted for all up testing.

Just wondering were you are getting your information. I guess from the scientists etc. . You can't have it both ways - the reason we know its 238000 miles is because Nasa told us it is. U cant quote Nasa as being correct and the next they are not reliable and lying/faking something else. - also the shuttle may be stuck in LEO however regularly clocks up millions of miles per mission.

I remember when this was considered incredible....before Apollo (1960) there were no Digital displays of any type, computers had tubes and were typically interfaced by hand fed punch cards (no keyboards),only large business(banks, accounting firms or the like) could afford them and they were typically the dimensions of small cars. By 1969 Apollo technology relied on Intergrated chips 1/20th the size of pencil erasers...the state of the art moved ahead a thousandfold in 10 short years.

These people invented,tested and through incredible effort actually advanced the state of the art far more then any other time in history...
