My company is doing Fosse as our concert theme this year. My division is doing the Heavyweight, and my section is the monkey arms thing at 3:22. Holy bejeebus, that hurts the day after! I have to do it at that speed and my shoulder feels like it's about to fall out of the socket!
How does she do that and how is she not famous????
SAW THIS JUST OVER 30 YEARS AGO AND HAVE WANTED TO DO THE ALOOF ET AL IN A DISCO OR CLUB WITH A LITTLE BLACK DRESS AND A LONG PONYTAIL,,WHY THIS MUSIC HAS NEVER BEEN RELEASED ON A 45 I CANT UYEAH NDERSTAND,FOSSE 'S CHOREOGRAPHY,,GENIUS,,AS ALWAYS ;-D YEA-HEA
O love to watch it from time to time since the 90's, when I first saw it in Paris, in a Planet Hollywood restaurant! IT'S FUCKIN' INSAAAANE!! and funny!
Absolutely outstanding! Every dancer is 100% on there game. This is what i call real professional dancing. And should be the aspiration of all those wanting to dance for a living. And the music and costumes are perfection. By the way, were can i pick one of those great little black dresses and the feather headgear?! It would still look great to wear some 40+ years later.
@silvershields Totally agree. For me, he was so great in his ability of making those choreographies look so easy and simple, but they were not! Especially when done with 20+ dancers on scene and coordinated with such up and down tempo on music. Try doing some of the "the aloof" dance moves at home, or even the dance-train sequence at 3:44 and maybe you'll get an idea of how hard it should've been to make it look so awesomely organized.
The beauty of Fosse's direction mixed with his choreography is that you can focus all your attention on one corner of the frame through all three numbers and there is always something going on, always a smaller story. Every detail is considered.
The male dancer with glasses looks just like Gary Owens, the announcer on "Laugh-In", which was a hot show on TV at the same time this movie was originally released. He, like all the other men in this scene, has the thick sideburns which were required for hip young men then.
And I think my favorite part might be the Magical Wizard Rave at the end.

Very 1965. Possibly one of the weirdest years for the human race.

...my main concern is: who is the main female dancer? and why isn't she famous?
svouras 2 years ago 18
Her name is Suzanne Charney. She was a professional dancer and did a lot of TV throughout the 70s and 80s but never really became that famous.
NoodlesSF 2 years ago
@NoodlesSF Suzanne was an original dancer on "Hullabaloo" in 1965. Her co-dancers were Donna McKechnie, Michael Bennett and lada Edmund, Jr.
