When I was there, our tour guide told us that we couldn't take video or photography in that inner part of the shrine. Kinda surprised that nobody stopped you when you walked in with the camera on.
@UltidarkTiabloES Well actually its not inside the shrine that you cannot take pictures, its other part "inside" inside the shrine, like that part that you walk up the stairs to and bring an offering and/or pray. But the area with the big tree and that wooden things that you can write wishes on is where you can take pictures. haha sorry if that doesn't make sence.
@iloveyou8770 Oh, yeah, that's what I mean. It's just weird that Jason was able to walk up into the praying area with his camera obviously recording and nobody said anything to him.
i love this place. was here about 12 years ago and nothings changed. beautiful place. so relaxing and nice to get away from the bustle of the city. thanks for posting.
Of course, all shrines are packed with people on New Year's Eve and Day! Hatsumode seems kinda important. Not too many people strongly believe, but, you know, "It doesn't hurt to not exclude the possibility of there being superior forces in the universe." :-)
the place Jason went, which is in front of the main building, is free to go and see. If you want to make a wish, they usually throw 5~100yen coin to the box in front before they pray (shinto shrines accept any people with any religions lol :) When you want to make a really big wish or make a donation to shrine, if you pay 10000~ yen (need application), then you can enter the main building and they will prepare special ceremory.

nope - it's free. I haven't ever been to a shrine that has charged admission. other places, like castles, do sometimes charge a fee to enter.
