  • Rick Perry is saying that since gays can serve in the military why can't there be pray in school? He is saying that peoples's rights aren't equal.

  • Thank you for speaking up against that asshole. Although i would have started it with im not afraid to say im Atheist

  • I absolutely love this! Thank you for speaking up for those whom should and will be heard!!!!! o(^▽^)o hi five! (=´∀`)人(´∀`=)

  • YOU ARE FAB!

  • Is she old enough to be hot?

  • I love all of you lesbians and gays, and I'm gonna let you finish, but everyone's love is equal and shouldnt be discriminated on. Who the hell are they to deny love, huh? I've loved a man, and woman, who cares???? Ahem, and this video is the most adorable of all time!

  • @Lena10E You are brilliant. We need more people in the world like you.

  • The problem with ALL of this is the fact people are trying to tell other people what they should and should not do. We don't need politicians or you tube video morons telling us what is right or wrong. That's what we have parents for. This whole society is disfunctional due to this.

  • Leviticus 18:22 "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination"....GOD

  • @gcannoncpc “You shall keep my statutes. You shall not let your cattle breed with a different kind. You shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed, nor shall you wear a garment of cloth made of two kinds of material." Leviticus 19:19

The Book of Leviticus is ignored by every Christian that I know of, with the exception of the part about condemning homosexuality. As every Christian who believes that nonsense is so fond of saying, "You can't pick and choose from the Bible."

  • @gcannoncpc So Lesbians are fine, then? :')

  • Well said. Fred Karger 2012!!

  • Thank-you for having two working braincells.

  • Ok little girl, deal with this one. The US Code states..."September 21, 1996, 1 U.S.C. § 7 and 28 U.S.C. § 1738C) it is United States federal law whereby the federal government defines marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman." Hate to tell you, same sex marriage is a federal crime.

  • @Droolbaby The fact that something is currently illegal doesn't mean that it is right that it is illegal. The overwhelming majority of Americans believe Prohibition was wrong, and the result was a second Constitutional amendment ending Prohibition. Also, I never once stated that I was for or against gay marriage. My message is simply that blatant discrimination and scapegoating of a group--regardless of what group--is wrong.

  • @Droolbaby

An unjust law is no law at all.

  • @Droolbaby I hate to tell you. But your wife's a dude... :)

  • @Droolbaby DOMA doesn't make same-sex marriage a crime; it simply means that the Federal government doesn't recognize it as binding, nor does it force the states to provide full faith and credit to the same-sex marriages of other states. Simple as that.

  • It is folish to accept someone's sin as part of a normal behavior. to think that other's sins don't affect you. How do you help some one by accepting their bad behavior. according to your logic why not just accept terroists and let them live in the usa..i mean why would u have anything to fear..they hate u but you accept them so its ok.Your playing with fire using that work so loosly lady.

  • @sofioagainstevlobama Your logic is flawed. The difference is homosexuality doesn't directly affect you. What they do behind closed doors does not hurt you so mind your own business. Have you forgotten "Judge not lest ye be judged yourself"?

  • I'm voting for her!

  • Acceptance did not make America strong. Standing firm in our beliefs even when the rest of the world did not agree with us is what made America strong

  • Awesome video! We need more people like you in the world and less people like Prick Perry.

  • Well said young lady. Well said.

I may not share your religious beliefs, but I definitely share your opinion here.

  • Thank you so much for your message. I was strongly offended by Rick Perry's ad, using God as a political platform and homosexuals serving our country in the armed forces as a punching bag. (His ad is also ignorant, because children CAN pray in school, it's only school-official led prayer banned in Engle v. Vitale.) I'm glad to know that there are tolerant Americans who are willing to stand up to Rick Perry's homophobic, anti-separation of church and state attacks on equality.

  • can all people regardless of their sexuality not put it in everyones faces while in the military? wtf happen to code of conduct for all service members.

  • Wow! I think this is the best presidential candidate ive seen!

  • thank you for that! i am a bit of a militant atheist and can get to involved of my disaproval of religion sometimes and forget about the nice reasonable people like you. thank you.

  • Very well done! Thanks for posting this.

  • I think everything you've said is true. And to people who say that what she says isn't Christian.... Christianity is not about following the Bible to the letter. It's about believing that there is something more to life than what we have here, and striving to make the world a better place for others. It's about taking the words the Bible speaks, and interpreting them in a way that helps people become better. The real message is, that ostracizing people for superficial things is not the answer.

  • @itssupercelia I strongly disagree. In my opinion, pining for another world and thinking this life is just some cosmic waiting room before an eternal life begins makes us place much less importance on the one life we KNOW we get and allows people to not take seriously the decisions we make here and now.

Why make things better in this world if you think an eternal life of paradise comes after you die?

Its gambling on the empty promise of a second chance.

  • Wasn't a long time ago gays where called a sexual mental disorder. I don't hate gays but i do fear that in society that one groups has to oppress the other. Disgruntled people of both sides love to fight instead of hugging each other.

Humans love to hate and destroy.

  • @SuperMisterowl It is impossible for all humans to agree on everything. We each have different perspectives, thought processes and opinions. This is a result of each of us being born with slightly varying genetic makeup.

As an intelligent social species capable of complex communication we have the ability (and responsibility) to discuss these different ideas and evaluate which best contribute to a healthy, happy society.

arbitrary hugs are not a magic cure all for conflict.

  • Actually discrimination made this country strong, as it was basically built by slaves. And homosexuality has been generally unaccepted in this country until very recent years. So I would submit that your claim "acceptance made America strong" is false. Nice try though.

  • I live in the UK where there are laws to protect minorities from a tyranny of the majority. Don't you guys in the US have similar laws? What's he going to do next - bring back slavery, which his bible also advocates and justifies? What's the good of a constitution if it doesn't protect people's basic rights to freedom and the pursuit of happiness?

  • @gedediah That is an excellent point! In the Barnette case Justice Jackson stated that:

“The very purpose of a Bill of Rights was to withdraw certain subjects from the vicissitudes of political controversy, to place them beyond the reach of majorities and officials and to establish them as legal principles to be applied by the courts.

(continued on the next comment because of character restrictions)

  • @Lena10E (cont.) "One’s right to life, liberty, and property, to free speech, a free press, freedom of worship and assembly, and other fundamental rights may not be submitted to vote; they depend on the outcome of no elections.”

Thus it is unlikely that someone like Perry could change the laws to do such things. However, social hostilities are entirely separate from the laws of the land, so even if the laws are discriminatory the people sometimes are.

  • @Lena10E Ugh, typos are unfortunate. Change "are" to "aren't" in that last sentence, please. :)

  • Modern day Hippie.

  • @z7TravisGT500 If being a modern-day hippie means loving the people around you, then I'm perfectly happy to be called one.

  • I don't even know you and i already love you, this touched me :3

  • thank you for your service

  • as a Christian, I agree with Jesus and all of his ways, so why am I as a Christian being told to believe in things that are not of Christ, and if i dont believe, then i am a bad person?..I dont believe in the Gay life style or same sex Marriage. it offends me as a Christian to be told i must believe that its ok,as a Christian we only believe and say what the Bible tells us, its not coming from our way of thinking, its God. Now, if this Offends you, it is not us who offends you, its your own Sin

  • @MrTimhend If that is what you believe, you have every right to believe it! My personal view is just that believing something is wrong doesn't mean we should limit the civil rights of or spread hate about the people who don't believe the same way.

  • @Lena10E I am not spreading or speaking hate here, My Christian belief is my own and i stand firm on it, The comments that i have recieved has been almost all Hate towards me because of my thoughts and belief, i gave my opinion about what i believe in and i am being persecuted for it, Does that not sound familiar ? ..Our Lord was hung on the cross for doing that very same thing, all he did was told the truth about how he believed, but truth was not in them that persecuted him, think about that.

  • @MrTimhend I in no way intended to imply that you specifically spread hate: there are just a lot of people who do, and Christians in general get a bad reputation because it it sometimes. I don't have the right to apologize for anyone who you feel may have been attacking you, but I do apologize if I personally came across as hostile. I certainly did not intend to be.

  • @Lena10E Your apologies accepted, and thank you. You are right about Christians getting a bad reputation, the cause, is not from our belief, but because of it,..A true Christian will not hate the person, just the Sin..it's the Sin that Hates the truth and the Christian....in 2 Timothy 3:12-13(NIV) 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

  • thanks for the video, i love it. the heart sign at the end gave me the goosebumps.

  • I happily commend the views you've expressed here and applaud your tolerance of others

    but

you do realise that by deciding for yourself that its wrong to hate gays is directly contrary to what god specifically commands in the bible, right? Judging by your stance in the video I'm willing to bet there are many other parts of "god's word" you disagree with.

so why are you a christian? I honestly would like to know.

  • @stiimuli I've read the Bible many times, and I have never seen a passage that said to hate gays. Are there passages that say it is a sin? Yes. But Jesus never once said "hate people that are different from you or who don't follow the tenets of my teachings." I ascribe to the "judge not that ye be not judged" and the "love thy neighbor as thyself" passages.

  • @Lena10E That's very odd because God tells Moses to tell the people at Mt Sinai quite clearly that gays should be put to death and their blood is on their own heads in Leviticus 20:13, right after he tells them that misbehaving children should also be killed...a verse Jesus refers back to and tells listeners to obey.

Are you rejecting god's word and deciding for yourself? If so then you've demonstrated that you are capable of better moral judgement than god and the bible.

    would you agree?

  • @stiimuli My statement was about hate, not killing people. I don't believe in complete Biblical literalism, so I don't support killing gays or misbehaving children

Christianity states that only God can judge who is a true believer, etc., so honestly I feel no compulsion to justify my fervent belief in love to others. I'm pretty sure God won't condemn me for loving my fellow human beings. And if he does, then that will be between Him and me, not anyone else.

  • @Lena10E Christianity states a great many things including the verses i've mentioned. You say you are not a literalist and disregard some parts of the bible while adhering to others.

By what method are you detirmining which commandments he wants you to follow and which he does not? Are they not all god's eternal, unchanging law? (as affirmed by Jesus' own statement)

I'm trying to understand your belief.

  • @stiimuli My beliefs are nuanced, but I believe in relying upon personal prayer to God in order to know how I should act as an individual. However, the overarching point of this video is that regardless of what I believe, I don't believe in enforcing that belief on other people who don't ascribe to the exact same views.

  • @Lena10E Could you please describe what response you get when praying to god about how to behave?

Do you get a response? Is it an audible voice? What information does god give you? Does god only provide this information to those who pray? If so, why? If not, then why does god not inform me how to behave? And how do you detirmine reliably wether any response you recieve is god or your own cognitive evaluation of the world around you?

Sorry for all the questions. I want to understand.

  • @stiimuli My communication with God is a pretty personal part of my life, and one that is normally fairly private. But for the sake of understanding I will try to explain to some degree. I personally just have a strong feeling--some might call it a "gut feeling"--when I pray about a lot of choices. I don't hear an audible voice, and there is no empirical way to prove whether or not such feelings come from God. I think everyone can commune with God in their own way, they just have to

  • @Lena10E discover how he speaks to them. I know this is all rather nebulous, but part of having faith (in my humble opinion) is knowing that it isn't exactly explainable. I'm sure that doesn't really answer your questions very well, but it is an honest effort to share my thoughts and feelings even when doing so is nearly impossible.

  • @Lena10E I appreciate your honesty and thank you for well-thought-out responses =)

and if I didn't say it before, I do like your video and its overall message of tolerance even if I find some concepts a bit puzzling. I wish more christians could be so enlightened.

  • @stiimuli Sure thing! I'm glad we could have a lovely discussion on a topic that often tends to be pretty sensitive.

  • @stiimuli I am curious about where Jesus refers back to this verse. Please share.

Also, do you subscribe to all the admonitions within Leviticus?

    Thank you.

  • @MrEmmettTill Mark 7:9-13. I can find no other logical interpretation other than Jesus telling the Pharisees not to think for themselves but to adhere to Moses' instruction from god to stone to death misbehaving children.

To answer your second question, I do not subscribe to the teachings of any religious texts. My beliefs and actions are informed by careful consideration of available information and evaluation of the consequences of actions. Jesus apparently would not be happy with me.

  • thank you for making this <3

  • You are an amazing woman! May your voice always be apart of our nation!

  • This is great. You sum up exactly the way I wish I could respond to Perry's ad, but you do it much more eloquently than most people could. thank you.

  • You're awesome!

  • One internets to you good woman!

  • I thank God that there are young people like you in this country. Seeing your response and those of many other young people, both gay and straight, reminds me that the Rick Perrys of this world will not have dominion over us. People are turning away from religion precisely because the Rick Perrys of the world make it seem like such a hateful thing.

Your video was very well put. You are a hero of this old-timer.

I also think it is pretty cool that you are so involved with NACURH,

  • @MrEmmettTill Thank you! It is great to see that people of earlier generations are accepting of their fellow being as well, because sometimes I hear my peers complain that only young people do so.

Also, are you familiar with NACURH? It is a great organization, but pretty specific to the Student Affairs field.

  • @Lena10E :-) The younger generation ALWAYS suspects that earlier generations are not as accepting of their fellow beings. I was delighted to find those in my parents' generation who were not judgmental. But I do think that with your generation, being gay will not be as big a deal as earlier. In fact this type of hatred by Perry, etc. may contribute to be their undoing in the election.

I did not participate in NACURH, but had a sister who was big into residence halls stuff & MACURH & NACURH.

  • @MrEmmettTill That's excellent! Residence Life is really a pretty small, tight-knit community. It's always fun to hear about people who enjoy/are involved in it, and even better when their families members actually understand it. I know my family doesn't understand NACURH at all, which is hilarious.

  • Thank you! Your video was brilliant. The faith I lost in this country after watching Perry's stupid ad has just been restored because of you!

    LENA10E for President, 2012

  • I am an atheist, and I got your back!!!!!

  • You brought me a tear.Everyone seems to be expressing outrage, you found a way to express love - thanks!

  • brava!!

  • In a democracy, majority rules. This is a democracy. Their are 3% gays. Their are 97% straight people, Sorry, you lose, you don't get to control everyone else.

  • @Trayton60 Yes, gays are a minority. So are a lot of groups in this country, whether they be ethnic groups, religious groups, or political groups (among many others). That doesn't mean that they don't have the same right to freedom and equality as the majority. They're American citizens and--much more importantly--human beings, too.

  • @Trayton60 Care to provide some backing for those numbers you post there? Oh, that's right, you can't because you pulled them out of your ass, I forgot.

  • thank you.

for being the last sane person on the planet.

if more people were like this (intelligent, accepting, loving, willing to question things, and willing to step up and say/do something), we'd be so much better off.

  • Finally. For the first time in my life, i've found a Christian I would endorse for President, and it's you :) Fantastic video, fantastic logic, and fantastic slogan, I might add. "Acceptance made America strong, it can make her strong again."

  • @ParadoxicalSymphony That's very kind of you! I have no particular desire to be president (what sane person would?!), but maybe that just comments on our modern political processes.

  • @Lena10E --- Why does God worry about gays when he's too busy giving little kids cancer? No Christian can gimme an answer to that question.

  • @Hunkola That's a really poignant question, and I'm not self-absorbed enough to pretend I know God's intentions or why he does what he does. My own personal beliefs in this area are far too lengthy to post in this forum, but I do think God cares for and loves all people, even though this world does have a lot of pain, affliction, and suffering.

  • @Lena10E --- God doesnt seem very loving if he inflicts so much misery upon the Earth and gives cancer to little kids ---- maybe you need to re-evaluate your beliefs? Dont be an ignorant fool like this douche Rick Perry --- use the brain Nature gave you!

  • @Hunkola Like I said, the theology behind it is a little complicated and takes while to explain. It just so happens that Religious Studies (the academic type, not the studying-to-join-the-ministry type) is one of my majors, so I've studied numerous religions in-depth. What's more, I've analytically questioned and evaluated every aspect of my faith in my journey to find what I truly believe, so I feel comfortable saying I use my brain pretty well and am not ignorant.

  • @ParadoxicalSymphony

Took the words right out of my mouth. And Lena? Message right back atcha. ♥ :-) Rock on, girl!

  • @ParadoxicalSymphony I couldn't agree more. (for the record I'm not a Christian, but believe we should all be who we are with no repercussions for it).

  • @ParadoxicalSymphony Gays are not specials, they r humans and make mistakes, they want to promote homosexuality in schools and that is wrong and everybody who support that is very naive or pervert

  • Comment removed

  • Here is something all of you need to realize as so-called "Christians"... Even though you say Jesus said it wrong to be homosexual, he actually meant the ACT of having homosexual sex was wrong. Similar in the way that adultery is also not right. And I can assure you, pre-marital sex, which is adultery in the Bible, is much more prevalent than homosexual sex. So talk all you want about how wrong it is, the majority of "Christians" practice something directly in violation of the 10 Commandments.

  • Stronger is better

  • As the Great Sean Hannity has pointed out, women who wear their hair short are probably practitiioners of lesbianistic actions and cannot be trusted to offer valid opinions on political matters. This, of course, is yet more PROOF that women should never have been welcomed to the table of politics or the arena of ideas.

According to the Sean Hannity Center for Truth and Freedom, the average Youtube users is a raging liberal who hates American freedoms and the Constitution. VOTE PERRY 2012!

  • @GozerTheGozerian ...I can only hope that this was intended as satire, because otherwise I can't even express how completely absurd and illogical it is. How exactly does hair length determine sexuality?

  • @Lena10E Because such hairstyles emulate proven liberals, lesbians and America-haters, like Ellen, Rosie O'Donnell, and John Kerry.

It was not so long ago that women were forbidden from voting or expressing opinions about politics. In an incredible gesture of generosity, men allowed women a place at the political table. And women abused that privilege, doing their best to turn America into the vaginal, apologetic, liberal disgrace it is now. PERRY 2012!

  • @GozerTheGozerian Again with the satire thing...

  • @Lena10E Oh FFS, it's supposed to make people laugh. Either I've lost my touch, or Rick Perry is so absurd on his own that trolling doesn't work because it's impossible to be more ridiculous than he is.

Congrats, you're one of the 0.0000001% of people on Youtube who didn't take the bait. Peace.

  • @GozerTheGozerian Thank goodness! My first reaction was to think you were being sarcastic, but I wasn't 100% sure. I think you hit the nail on the head in regards to the absurdity thing, because I know a few people who really do earnestly believe that. Even a few people have tried to comment on this video with the conclusion that I'm secretly a lesbian (which is news to me, since I have a boyfriend: I bet he won't be too happy to hear about my apparent secret homosexuality).

  • @GozerTheGozerian If you want to live in a homophobic theocracy that denies women equal rights to men, you could always move to Saudi Arabia. Islam's not that far off Christianity, it came from Judaism just like Christianity did.

    America haters? ... ... ... ... Really? ... ... ... ... ...

  • nope

  • I loved this! Thank you for making this video!

  • I absolutely <3 you!! Well said...

  • OMG thank You for saying this! You have NO IDEA How Great this sounds. best closing ever! "Acceptance made America strong, It can make Her strong again!"

    Thank you!

  • I like the heart at the end. If people just practiced LOVE (rather than religion), we would never have wars, intolerant acts, and so many other horrible things in our world.

  • Perfect response!

  • VERY WELL DONE -- calm, non-attacking; life-affirming.

  • I'm an atheist, and I approve your message!

  • <3

  • Now thats nice.

  • Parody of Rick's anti-gay ad on our channel. You'll love it. Unless you like Rick Perry.

  • You're awesome. I'm not afraid to admit that I am a Christian.I have gay friends, I have atheists in my family, and I believe that pushing religion onto people, like Perry seems to be aiming towards, creates more problems than there currently are.Instead of looking at religion, anti-homosexuality, and who would gain more approval of God-fearing people, look at the economy, look at what resources we can work with to become self-dependent, and work together, instead of making religion the problem.

  • @OklahomaSoonerWolf Religion IS the problem. The majority of wars have always been fought over religious differences. Religion only serves to poison minds and divide people. There is nothing honorable about people who patiently await a day when enough blood will be spilled to reach "horse's bridles" Revelation 14:20

  • The way I see it, there are people that believe what Rick Perry said very firmly. I come from an area where racism is a problem. I do not like the fact that it still exists but people have the right to believe in what they want, that is what America is founded on. When someone uses racism or discriminates against my religion so be it. I shake it off and carry with my life the way I want it. If we try to shot them down or get angry, then they have won, because we are no different.

  • @p80star I agree! That's why I don't believe in angrily attacking people with opposing views. This video was intended to be calm, cool, collected and based in logic and love.

  • Comment removed

  • @p80star

I agree, bigots can believe whatever they want, however it becomes a something else entirely when said bigot wants to be president of a super power with the responsibility of representing 300million americans and the "free world." In my view, Rick Perry deserves every nasty comment he has gotten in response to his ad because it potentially represents all of us. Hopefully after this we can all comfortably write him off and never have to mention him again outside the funny pages.

  • why do we care so much when we are all going to die? Theres a reason, but i think after watching so many rick perry videos i don't care anymore...

  • you go girl!

  • right on sister :)

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!!!! I'm not afraid to admit that I'm a gay christian and a fellow OU student and your video is the coolest thing since sliced bread! We are STRONGER than INTOLERANCE!

  • @kj4147 a gay christian? lol how does that work exactly?

  • @chuckwagon1645 The same way it works for any other Christian? Presumably through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who gay Christians have just as much right to worship or accept as their Lord and Savior as anyone who happens to be attracted to people of the opposite gender?

  • @Lena10E No what I'm asking is how can you see your homosexuality as honorable to the christian god? It specifically condemns homosexuality as an abomination. If you continue to express it without trying to "change your ways" then that is essentially the same as sinning and just saying "well jesus will forgive me anyways" and then you do it again. This is a self defeating proposition to think you can express freely being a christian.

  • @chuckwagon1645 First, I'm not gay so I'm going to assume that the use of the second person "you" is supposed to be a general overarching address to gay Christians. I have heard a variety of reasoning regarding the compatibility of homosexuality and Christianity. This forum does not permit a full explanation of them, however. I will simply limit my response to saying that I personally believe that anyone who wants to call themself a Christian has the right to do so.

  • @Lena10E There is no logical pathway to the conclusion that christianity allows homosexuality to be expressed as consistent with the teachings of the bible. Your deluding yourself if you think otherwise. Don't worry I'm not a Christian. It just blows my mind that someone would think christianity is compatible with homosexuality. It's not. It never was.

  • @chuckwagon1645 Again, I've heard a number of logical arguments that reconcile the two, even if I don't necessarily ascribe to said arguments. I am lucky enough to have a number of gay friends who are some of the best Christians I know. In the end, though, I don't think either of our opinions will matter either way, since (according to Christian theology) only God can determine that.

  • @Lena10E Well if you don't wish to discuss it anymore then I won't talk about it. Just curious is all. All opinions matter in some way. Rick Perry's certainly mattered didn't it? Our opinions influence our actions. You should consider watching a show called "The Atheist Experience". They make wonderfully sound logical arguments on there. I beg you to at least hear them out. It changed my whole outlook on beliefs. They even welcome theist callers. I dare you to give it a shot.

  • @chuckwagon1645 Honestly, I'm just not an expert and would hate to misrepresent the views of those I mentioned on the subject. Also, I have finals coming up and don't have the time to form a detailed response: I'm sure you understand. 'Tis the plight of the average college student. But when I do finally have some time, I would be perfectly open to viewing the show. I love hearing and understanding what people think about such matters!

  • @chuckwagon1645 You are right, in one aspect, "There is no logical pathway to the conclusion that christianity allows homosexuality to be expressed as consistent with the teachings of the bible". With the exception that it is consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ, for whom Christianity was named!

  • @missvic659 No it isn't. Jesus just never directly referenced homosexuality. Jesus commanded that people obey the old law. The ONLY parts Jesus changed was the sacrificial part. Everything else was still valid. Christians are too secularized today to actually follow the bible all the way. Thank "god" lol.

  • @chuckwagon1645

a christian who eats at red lobster? lol how does that work exactly?

  • @craigore2011 If the bible explicitly said "thou shalt not eat lobster" and a christian ate it and still believed that it did not conflict with the teachings of her religion then I would say the same thing. Have you even read the bible? Christianity isn't one of those all loving everyone is fine the way they are type of belief system. The bible explicitly points out that homosexuality is a sin and an abomination. Thinking otherwise is called cherry picking the parts you like.

  • @chuckwagon1645 Actually it does. The lobster thing. Crustaceans in general.

  • @kettoshii Oh sweet then I was right!! lol

  • @chuckwagon1645 In the New Testament - Acts - there's a discussion about how much of Jewish Law the gentiles need to adopt to be called Christians. That's why Christians don't have to keep kosher. Throughout the New Testament, the references to homosexuality 1) are part of a "laundry list" of "bad things" from Paul, a (formerly) devout Jew and 2) may be poorly translated from the original Greek.

  • @chuckwagon1645 honestly, I don't think you have ever read the Bible. Rick Perry is saying anyone who says they are a "homosexual" is not a person. Adultery is also a sin (aka Pre-marital sex) and it is one of the most prevalent "sins" in America. And until you have sex, neither is a sin. So the entire USA then is flouting God's teachings and "cherry picking the parts you like"

  • i love you girl!

  • Speaking the truth! <3 ^_^

  • I appreciate how you countered his argument without hate for either side. As a liberal Christian, I find it so frustrating how Perry and some other bigoted Christians attack homosexuality, but then many people who disagree with that bloc end up attacking Christianity as a whole instead, without realizing it.

Thanks for speaking out for the Christians who actually believe in acceptance of all our neighbors. <3

  • @luyingpan Love for you neighbors? Really?

"However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)"

  • @KaelaMackenzie BOOM ROASTED. lol.

  • @luyingpan You find it Frustrating and yet it is a foundation of your religion........K

  • I like this...

  • Love it!

  • Love it!

  • I LOVE THIS!!

  • Heck yes!

  • Heck yes!

  • You rock for this video!!!

  • Lena for president!

  • You rock.

  • If you are intolerant of intolerant people because they are intolerant - it proves you are a hypocrite because you are intolerant.

  • @bjknotts There is definitely a difference between being intolerant of another person and expressing a different viewpoint than another person. This video does the latter, and not the former. It is simply providing a view that happens to run counter to Rick Perry's views: it is not trying to suppress his right to express his view in any way.

  • @Lena10E Couldn't have said it any better. I approve this message as well <3

  • @Lena10E I don't understand my fellow christians...you're not the only people that live in this country. I graduated school in 2009 and i don't think it has dramatically changed, I do recall TEACHERS and FACULTY members are not to push religion on us but can simply teach an overview of religion, its called an education. Therefore for people to be informed. WE DO gather around the flag pole to pray. WE ARE allowed to have religious organizations. LIFE does not revolve around christian believes

  • @hco323 Precisely. Part of my issue with Perry's assertions are that the idea that prayer isn't allowed in school is simply factually incorrect. Individual students can--and do--pray in schools (regardless of religious affiliation). The fact that the Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that faculty members cannot lead prayer or otherwise impose religious views upon students does not infringe on anyone's religious rights. It just prevents an unconstitutional establishment of religion.

  • @Lena10E I hate to be the difficult one, since i think you're one of the best RA's here at OU, but ... there are schools in Wisconsin where wearing a shirt with any form of Christian symbol or bible verse, and refusing to change out of it, can get you suspended. It does happen, unfortunately.

  • @TranceGemini302 That is unfortunate! It is also unconstitutional. If a student challenged that rule/regulation in superior court precedent very clearly dictates that it would be overturned.

  • @Lena10E I'm referencing the general response to his video, not simply yours. I apologize if I have seemed ignorant to your intent. It has just been abysmal to see people who accuse him of intolerance practice that intolerance towards him. This is clearly evident if you look at his facebook or the other video.

Might I note that it is refreshing to speak with someone rational on Youtube. It is such a rare occurrence.

  • @bjknotts It's totally fine, I understand your opinion and think you have every right to express it. I agree that people shouldn't be attacking other people for their views, no matter how repugnant they may find said views. To be honest, I hesitated to ever get a YouTube account (much less post this video, which I never dreamed would get so many views) for the very reason that YouTube has such a poor reputation for rational users.

  • @Lena10E umm...sorry, for intruding on your conversation with someone else but...

Why exactly should we not be "attacking" (discussing rather) views which we find repugnant? As members of a society do we not have a responsibility to discuss and evaluate views, beliefs and behaviors in order to improve that society?

Isnt this precisely what you've done by speaking out publicly against the views of a fellow christian?

I'm seeing oddly contradicting views here.

  • @stiimuli It's totally fine! The main thing is that I see a difference between "attacking" and "differing from." I very much believe that people should express their opinions, whatever they may be and should analyze/evaluate the beliefs expressed by other people in order to ascertain their credibility. However, when people become hostile to one another it just impedes the discussion by making everyone defensive and angry. Basically, I'm pro- on civil discourse, con- on angry attacks.

  • @Lena10E "It's totally fine! The main thing is that I see a difference between "attacking" and "differing from.""

I completely agree with everything you expressed in that paragraph =) I really dislike the vitriol that can arise during important discussions.

  • @bjknotts You're equivocating. Most everyone is intolerant of murderers, for example. No one calls them intolerant for that.

Intolerance in the context you're using it refers to bigotry based on sexual orientation, religion (or lack thereof), skin color, and other things of that nature. People should be intolerant of that.

  • @bjknotts nice try but as it boils down to it being intolerant of intolerance to some extent handles it. If you were tolerant of intolerance that would be a bad things.

  • @bjknotts Tolerating intolerance makes a mockery of the word tolerance.
