  • smart people in USA?

  • One more thing: how is a church different from a corporation?

  • @yasijenny churches pretend to have moral standards and try to hide the fact that they are only after money by pretending to serve God.

  • @yasijenny they aren't taxed like corporations

  • Well, I am afraid of the churches. They are like corporations only with an often fake magic halo that allows them the have an awful lot of influence on people. The books don't scare me, but the way churches gather and spend money, the power and influence they have over people, controlling as they do all life's sacraments, churches are very manipulative.

  • the message she is trying to say is that she doesn't mind what religion u follow, or how u follow it, but it scares her that there r fake people who use religion for bad things. it's a great song. holly is aweosme!

  • Translation?

  • @Kido0o0o0o إنها تريد أن تقول إنها تحترم دين الشعب، لكنها تخشى من الناس الذين يختارون لاستخدام الدين لأمور سيئة.

  • great !

  • great job! i love you holly .... and roy!

  • Wow, Holly Near...haven't heard of her in 25 years. Great job!

  • @paulbark where does it say you can interpret it anyway you want? lol are you sure you're not creating your own god by doing this? and yes only a fool would take those words literally, but the bigger fol would try and defend it an interpret it differently... may i ask, how the hell can you possibly interpret that and stoning etc etc in a humane way?? does rape become a backrub or spoil her with flowers after your interpretation? i so how did you get that from something clearly so violent? hahaha

  • @joshuagoboom Jewish law is designed to be interpreted. No Jewish scholars say to take the word of Torah literally. None. Do you even know what Talmud is? If you did, you would know what I mean. The more you post, the more your ignorance of Jewish law is made obvious. You can't conceive of a non-fundamentalist religion. You have a simple, childish understanding of religion. Thinking people, thinking rabbinical scholars have interpreted, and will continue to interpret scripture.

  • @paulbark childish.. lol that's after your sucks to be you comment?? really? haha

there's a difference between what you believe to be moral and what your religion tells you what moral is. jews interpret their holy book to how it suits them.. not because your holy book tells you to interpret your gods word, but because not even you people are stupid enough to act on "his" commands. you try and justify your interpretation by saying "but jews interpret the torah therefore whatever sick commands...

  • @joshuagoboom ...it tells us we should just ignore it because jews don't act on them".

your holy book is very clear on it's commands and how life works and how it started. now, tell me mr. interpreter, please explain how you would interpret Deuteronomy 22:28-29??

  • @joshuagoboom Not my interpretation. Talmudic law states that in cases of seduction and rape, the girl as well as the father has the right to refuse the marriage. Twice I've asked you if you've heard of the Talmud. Your refusal to reply is further proof of your ignorance. If you knew the Talmudic law on this matter, you wouldn't be asking the question! Because of your ignorance of Talmud, you state something is clear, when clearly it is not!! Keep the stupid comments coming!!!

  • @paulbark no. talmud was written by jews who disagreed with their holy books moral ethics so they created one themselves. they tried to twist their holy books words because of how cruel and stupid your holy book is. your holy book is clear on it's commands but you people try and change it. i dont blame you. but saying "but to justify and say but jews don't even follow that shit. we made up our own rules and basing it as an interpretation of our holy book so it's cool", is a retarded defense.

  • @joshuagoboom @joshuagoboom even with all the interpretation you come up with to make your torah sound moral it still isn't.

"the girl as well as the father has the right to refuse the marriage" the fact that you don't see anything wrong with this statement shows how stupid you are. why would a girl be offering to marry her rapist in the first place?

  • @joshuagoboom The point is to obligate the rapist to provide for her for rest of her life, if that's what either the victim or her father wants. Maybe it's a very poor family, and the rapist is a wealthy man. Since either the girl or her father can decide not to do that, what's the harm? Would would you do? Let the rapist go scott free? At least Jewish law makes the rapist pay a fine and possibly have to take care of the victim for the rest of her life.

  • @paulbark 50 silver and he "must" be married. learn to realize that it doesn't state anything about what the woman wants. cause in your good holy book women are properties thus her opinion about doesnt matter.

you're again interpreting your gods words. & it's you're not doing tht good at it either. how the hell can you possibly think that a rapist would "take care" of a woman he savagely raped? your morallity is amazing.

  • @joshuagoboom You ignore Talmudic law. Only someone who has no understanding of Jewish law would do that. Your insistence on looking at literal scripture and ignoring the Talmud speaks volumes about you and your lack of knowledge. You wear the t-shirt, "Stupid, and proud of it." I've told you about Talmud, and you still don't get it. You don't want to get it. You want to remain ignorant. So, you are stupid and proud of it. Again, sucks to be you! Try using some brain cells one day.

  • @paulbark i'vesaid it before.. talmud was written by jews who could not accept the cruel shit in your holy book so they decided in to interpret it in their best interests. how can you say that these people's words are more powerful than your god when your god tells you that he's tabove all?

second, even with your rationalizing and interpretation of your gods commands, it's still cruel. maybe not to you. should we get into Leviticus paul?

  • @joshuagoboom Yes, you've stupidly said Talumd was written, and I've corrected you to say that Talmud originated as oral law. But, given your insistence on remaining ignorant, you repeat the same stupidity. Keep it coming! You make me laugh.

  • @joshuagoboom No, I'm not interpreting God's word. I'm citing Talmudic law. You think all Jewish law is in the Torah, and no matter how much I tell you otherwise, you stupidly refuse to believe otherwise. I've met some idiots in my life, but you take the cake! Thanks for the laughs, though!!

Given there are more Conservative women Jewish rabbis coming out of rabbinical school now than there are males, that defeats your stupid statement that Judaism treats women as property. You are a fool!

  • @paulbark lol don't have any argument to take down mine so you result to calling names hahaha

no conservative women jewish rabbis only shows that your holy book is false and the god described in it is not real. women are properties, it's okay to sell daughters and female slaves can be used for sex. these are rules that your god created and not even you jews can obey it. you instead create your own laws and try to pass it as judiasm. talmuc shos the failure of your religion. nice try

  • @joshuagoboom You misread what I wrote. I said there are MORE female Jewish Conservative rabbis entering the rabbinate than there are men. The "laws" you stated simply reflect your misunderstanding of Jewish laws.

I don't know much about Christian law. I don't pretend to. I know a little about Jewish law, but I don't pretend to be an expert.. However, what little I know is infinitely more than what you know. The more you try to speak to Jewish law, the more you show your lack of knowledge.

  • @paulbark misnderstanding? no.. i understand that jews today have changed their views and are now accepting female rabbis. what you keep ignoring is what your god says about women. the fact that you choose to ignore what your god says and instead follow what "jews" who ignore what your god says only shows the failure in your so called omnipotent god. your god demands for women to worship their husband and women are not to speak in churches/temples. your actions conflicts with your religion.

  • @joshuagoboom The Talmud is not something put in place by "Jews today." Reinterpretation of Jewish law is in the nature of Jewish law. Failure to do so would be a violation of Jewish law. By the way, it's not "my" God. There is but one God. All who believe in one God believe in the same God.

  • @paulbark yes but that doesn't mean that god is real.

and i never said talmud was something that was made recently. nor would it matter. because talmud will still be a symbol of how much of a failure your religion is. a so called omnipotent god who couldn't stop his slaves from misintepreting his cruel commands?

  • @paulbark No, some who belive in a deity do not cotton to that god of Abraham. Hindus, for example, have a pantheon.

So, yeah, it is YOUR god.

  • @joshuagoboom Again, you open your mouth and make a stupid statement. You don't even realize that Talmud was oral law! You demand a fundamentalist view of religion. That would be like reading a poem and taking every word literally. You can do that, but you'll miss the point entirely. When it comes to Judaism, you don't understand what you're talking about.

  • @joshuagoboom The only correct statement is that Jews interpret their holy book. We don't take it literally. That's true. It's not a matter of how it suits us, though. I'd love to eat pork, or shrimp, but that's not allowed. Your ignorance of Judaism spews out of you every post you make. Just keep the stupid coming. It's entertaining!

  • @joshuagoboom Anyone who wants to kill can find justification for that action in scripture. A Muslim who kills in the name of Islam is as mislead as a Christian who kills doctors who perform abortions, justifying it based on scripture.

You'll give Christianity a pass, but not Islam. The fact is, it's not religion that kills. It's what people do in the name of religion. I ain't afraid of religion. I'm afraid of what people do in the name of religion.

  • @paulbark yes and they kill because their religion tells them to do so. you can nitpick anytime you want but realize that when you refuse your gods command that only makes you an anti god. and that's not a bad thing my friend. you have questioned your gds moral values and i applaud you for that. now why can't you then question the god described in the same scripture you reject??

  • I AM A MUSLIM AND IAM AFRAID OF ALLAH

  • Man this is catchy and so so true!

  • Love it!

  • Wonderful *****

  • sweet song!

  • I have to thank you for helping me discover this song....

People always ask me (when debating) why I hate religion...I tell them its not religion I hate, its what religious people do...and this song is a great example of it...next time I debate I'm gonna start with this song... :) (If permission is given)

  • Roy, I am a longtime fan of yours. Usually I say, "Thank you, youtube, but now, I say, 'Thank you, facebook'. Never heard of Holly, but this song should be a folk classic along the lines of 'Blowin' in the Wind'. Keep it up.

  • 5-1-11 One less fear gone. Osama Bin Laden is now at rest with his demons. Just had to add this to your wonderful song Holly. Looking forward to hearing you in person now that your sabbatical is near finished. We need more folk singers!

  • Holly wrote this song in 2000, before 9/11. How appropriate today, with all the fearmongering about Muslims. Holly Near was before her time! Don't fear religion. Fear what people do in the name of religion. Great, great observation. And Roy....you do this great song honor. Thank you for posting.

  • @paulbark Where can I find the lyric?

  • @MAlejandraReyes

google I an't afraid holly near lyrics

  • @paulbark Thanks!

  • So truth is a lie? What? Allah is the Devil and be very afraid!

  • Love that song ! ! !

  • This one gave me the chills, I love it!

  • great, nuff said.

  • @RoyZimmerman Hi :), with your permission can I mirror this beautiful song .. ?

  • Well done!

  • I shared this will lots of my friends and they all love it!

  • @bestvalue

"I ain't afraid of your Hitler,"

If only most historians wouldn't agree he was a Christian I wouldn't really mind you writing that all that much.

  • @noirkitten No, I'm the only one who fits that definition. The rest have their own little amalgamation.

And we have free time because we don't watch TV.

  • @noirkitten I don't see how gymnastics makes one clot better, but all righty then. I'll even let you take the first swing.....mind you, I'll probably dodge it, but years of gymnastics AND rodeo made me quick like that. Be warned, there is no such thing as a fair fight.

No, it's not a standard definition. Just one my friends and I came up with. We have free time.

  • @noirkitten I don't wrestle for frat boys. I will go toe-to-toe and fight, but I'm not feeling that aggressive about you, plus I suspect you're a bleeder. Verra messy and smoking weed is funner.

A phattie is at least as big around as your pinkie finger but less than 3 papers. Three papers is a wolf turd.

  • @noirkitten Don't blame others for your poor choices. YOU chose to watch or listen to that crap. NO ONE forced it upon you. Don't play the victim when you did it to yourself.

BTW, if this sort of thing is crucial to you, you're a spoiled child. There are REAL issues that are actually crucial and hippies ain't it. Hunger, poverty, child abuse, human trafficking.....those sorts of things are crucial. Hippies, not so much.

Now smoke a phattie and chill. Enjoy the music.

  • @noirkitten You should smoke a joint. It's not that crucial.

You seem really bitter and angry about hippies and it's sort of sad. They've not done anything to harm you. (Steve Jobs isn't a hippie....too corporate)

Oh, and it's "hippie". "Hippy" refers to someone with wide hips.

  • @noirkitten Oh, so one must be emersed in the media to be a hippie?

Who said you get to define it?

I'm not a tofu hippie. I'm a natural living, grow you own hippie.

  • @noirkitten I don't know how self-riighteous being happy is, but hey, if that's how you see it, okay. I was actually FAR more self-righteous when I was a punk. All that antiestabilshment hoo-ha, don't ya know.

Who's Rubin? I don't drink soft drinks except for a bit of Coke with my whiskey, so I am not familiar with all the pop culture refreshments.

The money IS better, but I'm also an adult. Generally, adults make more money than teens.

  • @noirkitten Didn't work, did it?

As a former punk and current hippie, I can only say that the peace and love was much more entertaining and enjoyable than all the anger and destruction.

  • Love it.

  • song is one of Dan Barker's albums

  • beautiful song! I'd like to play it but i can't figure out the tabs. help, please!

  • And all this whitout Studio and music "industry" .. more pls. I think best is failure and how it is been resolved so that singing continues and it has something new in it.

  • I love this... anyone know if this is on iTunes ?

  • Sounds a little bit lame, just a tinny little bit. But the message is good anyway.

  • two people who rated this video were afraid....

  • God, that was fantastic!

  • I am in love with this song!!

  • Amazon...A member of a group of female warriors in stories told by ancient Greeks.

Well, we may need to add RoyZimmerman to that definition. That is meant as a compliment Roy. We can and do stand together!

  • Really enjoyed this one! :D

  • Wonderful! I definitely have to learn this one.

  • Holly just verbalized (or sang, more accurately) what I've been feeling for over the last decade!

  • Likes this :3

  • What a powerful song.

  • very nice!

  • People Magazine July 13, 1981..."I challenge people but with great care." Holly Near

  • I love it. Well performed and I totally agree with the song.

  • Just purchased lst National Nothing. Was when Holly was part of a theatrical performing group. Not sure of the date of that record but just another part of Holly's contributions over the years. Only one I still need to hear is Margie Adam. Any chance for the future Roy?

  • awesome

  • Great Song

  • Oh wow! She is a powerhouse!! Right on, Roy!

  • Amagawd!! She's Awesome!

  • wow... is that lady single???

  • Catchy, soulful, and meaningful-- I LOVE this song. Great job guys :D And if there's any chance you'd post chords/tab; it'd be greatly appreciated, because I know I for one would love to be able to play it

  • Classic tune

    ¦:¬)

  • Very nice. Nonreligious people need more anthems. How come some of your songs are not available in Germany?

  • @tarni2222 yeah, whyyyyyyyy

record deal with the wrong company?

    not self-publishing?

it's so annoying having to tell the youtube servers that I'm from Trinidad ;)

  • Doing this as an old spiritual is the ultimate irony. Love it.

  • I once heard a Texan gay mens choir singing this on a documentary about them. At least most of them were Christian.

  • Awsome, keep it up man!
