We had Tuvan Throat singers come to my school and do a demonstration and i tried it and it was very hard to do. He is absolutely incredible. I wish the judges were not so closed minded about talent just being singing or dancing.
I was going to make a comment about Soriah and how awesome his Tuvan Throat singing was... and then I read that most other people agree with me. Good to know. I'm rather furious how close minded the judges on this show are. Annoying as anything.
I've sang with Soriah before; he has taught me throat singing and is deeply committed to the ancient Tuvan traditional style of singing.. he's gone and travelled there, and studied with many Tuvan masters, including Chirgilchin. The resonance in his voice is profound, and I've seen him perform before and he is mind blowing..
However, I can't help but imagine that he would've made a better impact on the audience if he had worn a slightly more "stage appropriate" outfit.

I can't stand how the judges make up their mind about someone based on their outfit. Also, if someone doesn't have the typical "singing/dancing/musical instrument" talent it's harder for them to go far. It's America's Got TALENT, they should have unique talents be their priority.

I've lived in Portland for all of my 17 years. There are some weird people, yes, but for the most part you don't actually realize a person is weird until you speak to them and they mention that they can "pull the lyrics out of an unnamed place" when they sing.

This is a bunch of bull crap! I thought this was a TALENT show, not "skill you can aquire after a few weeks or months of training" show. Reminds me of elementary school where people just sang random crap or poorly played the violin. Granted, that woman with the pink hair was...well, not good. But the rest were darn impressive. Wow, not surprising response given the setting and people involved, but sad. While I don't think Soriah was at his best here, he might have gotten a better response with just a bit of patience.
I've been throat-singing for a long, long time and have been three times to Tuva, and to Mongolia. And I've heard many, many wannabes from around the world. Fact is that Soriah is one of the few non-natives that really can throat-sing at a high level, and to be regarded as a good singer by Tuvans.
totally...this guy can totally throat sing....he's just doing it for a bunch of people who love justin beiber. maybe if they knew anything of the world beyond walmart they'd at least respect his skill.

This is a bunch of bull crap! I thought this was a TALENT show, not "skill you can aquire after a few weeks or months of training" show. Reminds me of elementary school where people just sang random crap or poorly played the violin. Granted, that woman with the pink hair was...well, not good. But the rest were darn impressive. I was appalled by the reaction to the throat singing. They really know nothing about it, do they? Typical reactions from typical people. I boo you, AGT!

Wow, not surprising response given the setting and people involved, but sad. While I don't think Soriah was at his best here, he might have gotten a better response with just a bit of patience.
I've been throat-singing for a long, long time and have been three times to Tuva, and to Mongolia. And I've heard many, many wannabes from around the world. Fact is that Soriah is one of the few non-natives that really can throat-sing at a high level, and to be regarded as a good singer by Tuvans.

Well on the plus side, I'm sure he could get some gigs at yoga/meditation classes or something. All he needs to do his call himself Master Soriah and spin some crap about having been raised in a cave in Siberia and he'd get the desperate housewives type set totally eating it up.
