  • I'm sure it's been asked already but what is the monstrous lute looking instrument in the back?

  • @JawigginsH It is called "theorbo", it's a bass lute, commonly used for playing basso continuo.

  • GRANDE!|

  • beautiful.

  • bravo!!!!!!

  • That's a Theorbe if I'm not mistaking

  • wats that giant lute thing in the back???

  • I think they call that an Archlute. I'm not 100% sure...

  • @strodden its a tiorba. archlutes are alike, but have a smaller neck

  • @hardcorefanJacoby it is a tiorba

  • @hardcorefanJacoby It is a lute. As for what kind of lute, that can only be answered by time, place, and even the choice of tuning. Call it a _theorbo_, and most everyone today will understand your meaning.

  • what a soloist...... SHIT!! maybe the best i've heard performing this. how does he get such a fucking thick sound out of the mandolin?!?

  • excelent

  • Great ensemble, wonderful choice of voices. You can hear them all.

  • wow, this is really fantastic! i'm absolutely surprised!

  • Excellent in every regard!

  • that's the longest necked lute i've ever seen!!!!! O_O

  • can you pleaz tell me what te difference is between a lute and a mandolin?

sorry I just beginning to like these(this?) instrument(s)

  • well, i know that mandolins usually have steal strings, and sometimes they're nylon, but the significant difference is the body size. lutes are bigger and have nylon strings. the mandolin did evolve from the lute though. i hope this helped u to differentiate them.

  • Mandolins are played in fifths with the same tuning as a violin. Lutes are tuned in the same way as a guitar, in fourths, possibly with a third somewhere in there. I think lutes aren't always fretted, either.

  • It's called an arch lute, rarely seen and even rarely played, but what a wonderful performance of a beautiful piece of music,

  • this is really damn good!

  • אתה מנגן ממש נפלא, כל הכבוד לך ולאנסמבל הכלי. דרך צלחה

  • What kind of mandolin is it? I thought that I know all kind of classical mandolins! I play on a Neapolitan mandolin ;-)

  • Wonderful playing and nicely balanced sound from the Ensemble. Bravo!

  • AWSOME GEIL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What is the big instrument in the back?

  • That is a theorbo, a type of continuo Lute

  • Do you know how many strings it has and who it is tuned?

  • the theorbo has 14 single srings (usually) tuning G_ A_ B_C D E F G Ad g b e a attention the 2 first strings are lowered an octave, it means that the 3rd. is the highest string there are more types of theorbos you can search at the lute society of america.
