  • Tonight while we are home with our loved ones, there are thousands of Federal Marshals out there protecting YOUR FREEDOM. We forget about them and their contribution to preservation of Constitutional Rights, probably because they are always in the background. Tonight these LOYAL-LAW-ENFORCEMENT-Agents are away from their families. Remember them in Your Prayers, give thanks for Their Dedication. I'm able to talk to you right now because of Them~Bless You Third Wheel~TacuSkan

  • @ImpeccableDiligence The only threat to my freedom is the government so stick your bullshit propaganda up your puckered ass.

  • I believe this was from the tour where Bob went for a walk in a bad part of town and the people that lived there called the cops on HIM! Said cops asked for ID and asked what he was doing. Walking, he said. You got a job? Yeah, Im a singer. Where you stayin? Back at the motel up the way. Well, the two young cops walked Bob into the lobby where some roadies were chillin. Any of you guys know this man? They cracked up laughing. Legend has it that one of the roadies said "No one knows this man!

  • @irishace11 Thank you SO MUCH for sharing The History behind and anchored specifically in this VIDEO. Just goes to show you, and I think Both Bob and Willie would agree with me on it ~ NO (WO)/MAN IS AN ISLAND ... Blessings ~~~

  • the 2 legendary wow awesome i slute to both of you rock n country music .

  • All I can say is I like them all and could in no way choose one as the BEST songwriter. I have so many BOB records, cds and more in my iPod, but i don't go to Bob concerts anymore; and at age 63, I don't go to concerts in big arenas anymore.

  • I see Marty on Willie's right... one great picker.

  • @Jornaquin

Thanks for the full quote and I love Townes' response.

  • This beautiful song written by Townes Van Zandt has been recorded by many.

Steve Earle said, Townes is the best songwriter ever; and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table and say this. (not an exact quote)

I have loved Bob Dylan's music for nearly 50 years; I have even obscure albums.

But I have not enjoyed Bob in 3 live performances over the past 20 years.

  • Comment removed

  • @DOMERAISER Steve Earle took that comment back - not that I would remotely consider him any kind of official judge of writing talent.

  • @Firefox123455 Yes, Willie is great on this song, but I never denigrate someone singing their own song. It's Townes' song, and how he sang it is great. And I'm sure Willie and Bob and Merle and Steve would all agree with me.

  • BOB is GOD

  • Bob Dylan wishes he wrote this song! :-)

  • @rojolane Really, did you speak with him?

  • Fuckin' Bob. No one makes a song his own like this guy.

  • Merle who?

  • This is magnificent! None better!

  • Willie is great and Bob is magic; together they are timeless, no matter how old they are.

  • is it just me or does Bob look like townes did in about the same time frame? I think this took place in the early 90's and it is uncanny how much they looked alike at least to my memory. I do not know how to find a picture of townes that I could date.

  • excellent duo

  • Sorry love .love bob is is not good

  • Dearly love this song

  • I NEVER like Bob live, but this is rare quality.

  • @Ardalla555 Seen Bob live last night in Dublin.......He was in top form...Brilliant gig.

  • @Ardalla555 you'll be alright, yes indeed!!

  • A W S O M E - there is nothing else that can be said .

  • Song written by Texan Townes Van Zandt...I bet he would have enjoyed hearing Bob Dylan sing his song.

  • @777rks i highly doubt that

  • "The dust that Pancho bit down South, ended up in Lefty's mouth." God DAMN! what a poet Van Zandt was!

I'd give my soul to write like that.

  • @archer1949 breath as hard as kerosene...that line has always stuck with me.

  • i can't stand dylan--but in this tune he did great

  • is that marty stewart on the far side of willie, playing a mandolin?

  • @fozmanOU869 nope it's jonas arcieneaux- I believe.

  • Thank You Willie...Thank You Bob!!!!!

  • Willie is one of the best!

  • bob sounds like adam sandler

  • @rickard1177 he is!

  • If Dylan sang the song -- its good - case closed - he has never sang badly - he is America's voice

  • @EricDavidFloyd That's correct. Case closed.

  • this is great. Bob Dylan for President!

  • Bob just singz it like it is , ifn ya dont like it gtf...greatest purveyor of the ballad trad. ya had the priviledge to hear in what is our short lifes

  • Bob just singz it like it is , ifn ya dont like it gtf

  • What a treat for the fans there, two very talented singer/songwriters on stage in front of them,,,wish I was sitting there too

  • Thanks for posting this. These guys got it right.

  • Wonderful Townes Van Zandt ! Thanks Bob, thanks Willie !!!

  • Such a great song and not even Mr. Van Zandt's best.

  • ...two masters, performing the song of yet a third master (presumably right around the time TVZ died, it looks to be?); a musical moment worth preservation...

  • doesn't get any better; willie oan trigger and boab playin sum kinda well set up Martin

  • This is great on many levels - #1 Awesome song by a supernatural songwriter. #2 Excellent performance. #3 I love the class Bob has in singing a TVZ song after what Steve Earle said one time (Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the world, and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that) ` which is true of course...

  • @The1savior ....I'm an old man .

    ...I have loved Bob D's song's forever .

    ...Long before I heard Willie N .

...This is one of Willies' best .

...This is one Bob should not have done .

  • @cuteoldguy This is a TOWNES VAN ZANDT song written by TOWNES VAN ZANDT. It's his and no one else's. He just let others sing it. Thank you very much Townes.

  • NO NO NO !!!

  • Go Willie!!

  • @The1savior Thank you for intelligently expressing your opinion....

  • Two legends on one video, how good can life get! Willie may you live forever!

  • When was this done?

  • For Townes! For Waylon!

  • FANTASTIC, 2 awsome singers together, -

  • Bob and Willie are swagged the fuck out!

  • bob & willie will ALWAYS be great!!!!!!!

  • Ahhh this is tooo much so very good tow of the greatest guys love them oh my god this is fabulous and a treat to hear & watch god bless them always

  • killer bee; rest easy TVZ, your work is in good hands

  • terrific...........absolutely so

  • True, Bob Dylan is a great songwriter, but remember this was written by Townes Van Zandt, who was another great songwriter! Dylan recognized TVZ's genius. Both are gifts to American music.

  • That's great. No one like Bob. Loved him for forty years, since I was sixteen. I'll bet even he's lost count on how many great songs, he himself has written.

  • Bob ist der beste Songwrither aller Zeiten.

  • Bob ist der beste songwrither aller zeiten

  • My thought is that Townes is pretty knocked out with Dylan singing his song.

  • Dylan sounds so good with Nelson.

  • To in any way denigrate Bob Dylan is akin to blasphemy, the man is our greatest national treasure. Step back from your filthy language long enough to contemplate what the music industry would have been without Bob Dylan's influence over the past FIFTY years. Add to that his talents as not only a musician, a composer and a singer, he paints, he writes books, he acts, he is a man who has used the talents the Almighty has afforded him... and we are all the beneficiaries of his gifting!!!

  • Masters of their trade I have kinda flirted with country music some I like some is a bit samey. This is wonderful I just can't understand you haters all they are doing is bringing beauty and poetry to us all

  • LEFTY FUCKING ZIMMERMAN!

SOMEBODY THROW A BEER BOTTLE AT THAT FUCKER!

    ONE AT WILLIE TOO, THANKS!

    ROFL!

  • No one can impersonate Bob Dylan's epic- ness.

  • Beautiful. Happy birthday the other week, Bobby!

  • Maybe Merle, or maybe Bob, or maybe not, or maybe both..this is just wonderful, no matter who's singing with Willie..

  • brilliant! ... BRILLIANT!! ... B+R+I+L+L+I+A+N+T !!! - God bless them both and everyone who truly loves them, now and always! Amen!

  • Dylan, is brilliant. He always experiments with vocal melodyies and sounds so good here with Willie.

  • Willie and bob , probably two of the most awkward feckers to ever play a duet with, but this is amazing,it totally works, i betchca townes would be proud of this version

  • Beautiful.

  • What a great version

  • Willie is 10z better than Dylan.

  • Ahhhhh, are my heroes!!!

  • I cryy when he sings

  • Legends singing a legendary Townes Van Zandt song. I love it!

  • Bob and Willie are a marriage made in heaven.

And this is one of the great songs of all time.

It's almost as if Townes wrote this for them (tho we will never forget Emmylou's classic version(s))

And I wish I looked as good in pants as either of those old guys.

  • bob sounds like he just sucked in helium lol!

  • What a gem.....Willie & Bob.......true legends still standing tall!

  • How great is this to get Willie singing here with Bob, I bet they are real good friends.

    Muriel xxx

  • God, this is so great. I could listen to it all day. They really nail this wonderful, soulful song. Thanks Townes, Bob and Willie.

  • perfect rendition of this song, live, crude and heartfelt if you dont like dylan go listen to lady gaga

  • This has to be one of the best renditions of Pancho & Lefty ever.

  • is that marty stuart on mandolin?

  • @pudso1 Yes.

  • @pudso1 Yes, that is Marty.

  • @CalypsoPeg4811

Are you sure that is Marty on mandolin? Doesn't look like him to me - a little too tall and too heavy.

  • lots of arseholes on here leaving poor comments go away and listen to your own shit music leave the masters at work notdarkyet 2011

  • There will never be anybody good as these two guys. There both legends and still going strong after 50 plus years in music. Still doing shows, still totally relevent today. It's just amazing what they have accomplished in their carrers...like I said nobody is better.

  • This was just great. I hope everyone had fun. Just enjoy the music, just enjoy the ride.

  • Great to see these guys are still keeping real music alive.

  • all the people at the Sony say, "We're gonna have it anyway.. Only let it play for a while"

    Out of dumbness, I suppose..

  • all the people at the Sony say, "We're gonna have it anyway.. Only let it play for a few days"

    Out of dumbness, I suppose..

  • Willie Nelson is a Gentlmen. He sings only the much its needs. Bob is a Legend.

    God Bless them.

  • How great is Bob on this, I get chills when he starts his first verse

  • I bet TVZ would thrill over this.

  • Could we stop fixating on Dylan's voice? I think it suits this song quite well. Willie doesn't exactly have a great voice either, but it works for his music.

  • anyone have a take on what this song is saying? I love this tune. i think it is about the human story, maybe. i think that because of the line about the Federales letting him slip away "out of kindness, I suppose." it goes, "they could have had him any day." maybe townes was writing about himself, marvelling at the fact that God had allowed him to live so long with such a self-destructive bent.

    any ideas?

  • @derek4ur Townes said it just came to him - a story about a bandit who was hanged "they let him hang around" and the man who betrayed him. There was an actual legendary bandit called Pancho Villa with a friend whose nickname could be translated to Lefty, but Townes says that he wrote the song without quite realizing the history. That said, its a disservice to take the lyrics literally - its more than just a story and you can take other meanings from it.

  • @derek4ur - A songwriter does himself a disservice when he spells out the meaning of a song. I have looked at this song from many different angles because it is open to different interpretations. That is why this is such a great song.

  • @derek4ur

I think the song is about betrayal. Pancho ends up dead in Mexico, Lefty returns to O-hi-o, and where he got the bread to go, they're ain't nobody knows... Lefty sold his partner out and is left to live with the consequences.

  • Both Willie and Bob are just great...so fuck you all!

  • dylan i mean

  • dyaln suck in this i like him but i could fart better notes willie rules

  • @tacojon100 Perhaps you could fart better notes, but no one would listen. Not Dylan's best moment, but not his worst either. Like Townes, his performances have warts.

  • @psakref

It also smelled better than your post.

  • @paleyoungman I`m glad I`m not the only one who heard it, but you must`ve had good seats if you could actually smell it

  • this is the good stuff.
