@theusedx909 you know why? because being black, brown, gay, bisexual, or anything that is not the typical white otherwise called "normal" you are called "the other" white is the superior race, which is not right, that is why he's doing this, trying to let people like you know that you make us as the "other" feel like we are bellow the whites. and slam poetry is a safe zone, anybody can do slam poetry & be accepted, you can do a slam poem on typical whites, but i doubt anybody would like that.

there is no hardship associated with being white. as a white person in american society, one is preferred by every institution under the sun.

when irish and italian families dropped their accents and turned into white people, they exchanged their culture for american power, for that preferential treatment. the culture of white people is a culture of power.

a white person could make a poem about the culture that they are a part of, but not about how hard it is to be white.

I don't think he is in support of that idea at all by this poem. I wouldnt begin to judge someone so harshly based off of 4 minutes of their thoughts. I think the poem is explaining that black is nothing but a "social construct", which is stated. The imagery that James Ray and the rest of the world associate with "black" are nothing more than labels, stereotypes, and misconceptions of an entire race.

I assume from his "poem" that he doesn't like the way black people are being compartmentalized, yet at the beginning he says something like "this is for my black people". Slightly contradictory.

From what I've seen from these poetry slams, it seems it is just idiots ranting about something they know others will agree with. Is it the louder you shout and the longer words you use the more likely you are to win?

it has nothing to do with being compartmentalized. there is nothing wrong with a shout out to people who have to face the same day to day life obstacles and share the same day to day experiences as he does.
