to clarify guys g is the unknown number in the proportion you cross multiply 40*3=120 so 120=2g then you find g to find it you divide 120 by 2 the answer is 60 so 60=g

the way id do it is you ad 3 and 2 together than divide 5 by 40 which is 20 that means 20 is equal to 1. so 40 is equal to 2 and so on...

divide the 180 total students between the total digits of the ratio and then multiply it by the total radio of boys/girls

to find boys

180/(2+7)=20

20x2(boys)=40

to find girls

180/(2+7)=20

20x7(girls)140

there is a much easier way:

share £40 in the ratio 2:3?

add 2 and 3 to find the total number or parts: 5

divide 40 by 5 to find the value of each part: 8

multiply each term in the ratio by 8: 2 x 8=16, 3x8= 24

so £40 divided in the ratio2 : 3 gives shares of £16 and £24.

Hi you can solve it in this way

each kilogram of apple costs:A

each kilogram of grape costs:g

She spend for 3 kg of apples and 2 kg of grapes 1300

3 A + 2 G = 1300 ---- (1)

& from the given you know that : grapes cost 150 more per kilogram than apple

g = A+150 -(2)

Now you have two equation and you can solve them by substitution

5A=1000

A = 200

g=A+150 equation (2)

g=200+150 = 350

kilogram of Apple cost 200

Kilogram of grapes cost 350

That was awful, way too complex for something that is very simple:

Share £24 between two people in the ratio of 5:3

Combine, Divide, Times

Combine the ratio number 5:3 (8)

Divide it by the total (24 / 8= 3)

Times the answer by the ratio numbers needed (5x8= 40, 5x3=15)
