im sorry.. i dont know HOW you screwed this test up.. but at this point, the only hard drive with an actual SPINNING DISK, that can keep up *REALLY* with an SSD, are the HYBRID hard drives, that have a SSD IN THEM..
Can I install an SSD and an HDD in my tower and save my games like Amnesia, Minecraft, BF3, COD on the HDD and whenever I feel like playing one run it on the SSD?
SSD's do not do well when ghosted. I've seen this on many occasions. I took a freshly imaged PC and ghosted it to the SSD and the performance was horrible. I then rebuilt the computer using the same SSD doing a full windows install and the performance was much better than the HD.
@stonent Perhaps when you install Windows on an SSD rather than ghosting it, Windows becomes aware of the fact and tries to optimize its performance for SSDs - filesystem and OS alike. A bit hard to rearrange the entire system like that when it's been running for a while on a different drive underneath it...
you do know that if you use ssd for the first time it is slow but once it does the test agine it is much faster the test is not showing the trueth about the speed of ssd
This test do not show basic advantage of SSD drive, because it's made on fresh OS. Please make it after high fragmentation, then you will see huge difference......
So, what are we saying here; 7200rpm is faster but less battery time? SSD is .80 sec slower but is faster than most 5400 rpm drives by far, but do we get better battery life? I ask because I have a 1215N and want to put a SSD in it along with 4 gigs ram Primary goals here are to speed up PC overall (boot up, shutdown, programs). 2nd goal is better battery life, I can squeeze like 7.5 hrs if I go easy on it. Will the SSD help me get over the 8 hr mark?
The 7200 RPM's Windows Score isn't a valid measurement, because win7 cuts off non-SSDs at a certain score, regardless of performance, and ONLY SSDs can get above it.
@SenorCajones I'm terribly sorry, about the lack of capitalising my first person personal pronouns, I was too busy contemplating the ability to make a witty comment (which to my dismay remained thoroughly unsuccessful). Also, your use of the 'z' in capitalising is incorrect English grammar and is in fact an 'Americanism' of the English language. Next time you feel like picking on someone who you feel is vulnerable, don't pick an A-Level English student.
@SenorCajones Another thing? Your point is entirely invalid, as the idea of 'only little girls' not 'capitalising their first person personal pronouns' assumes that any small child of the male gender has the ability of typing with perfect grammar and punctuation. Furthermore, I don't think it is appropriate to refer to 'retards' in a derogatory manner. This can be classed as a hate crime and is certainly a criminal offense punishable by law. Thank you and good night.
@ilfautrire1000 And the one person who comments on the dislikes can't speak English to save his life. So whatever you wrote can't be understood, actually.
@qwtf4life How can I tell wether the ssd is good or not ? :P I am buying a mac and considering just adding a SSD 512GB.. how can I tell if it is a good one? since the SSD itself costs 1700$... I don't want to waste 1700 bucks on a bad ssd :P
comparisons don't need assembly video, first real boot does not show SSD comparison as you really need to install a few things and change settings to get the most out of an SSD, and numbers in comparison are awful to try and understand. To top it off you have a singer that is half Beiber half Weird Al with horrible lyrics that made me mute my sound.
@chingu27091 if you watch just the price... well... you maybe didn't try the SSD. I have a Corsair Force GT 120, the price is a little expensive... 140 €, but all the sistem is much more reactive and faster than before.
@DEABlade I have a 500Gb 7200 RPM drive which is about 4 times the size of the Corsair Force GT 120. I would need at least 480Gb of storage which if I was to get the Corsair Force GT 480 would cost me around £700.00. I paid £70 for my WD Scorpio Black 500Gb.
@chingu27091 depends what you use... i have 2 WD Green power 1 TB raid 1 mode for storage, 1 x WD Velociraptor 150 GB for games and Corsair Force GT 120 SSD for programs, OS, etc. depends all about the applications that you use. The games for now don't need an SSD but if you use programs like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc. it's really usefull. Now i can't come back without SSD.
@DEABlade I have a macbook pro so I am kind of confined to how many hard drives I can put into my machine. I would use a data doubler but then I would have to use an external superdrive or something similar. As I am always "on the go" it's a bit pointless lugging around an extra item which weighs quite a lot as far as super drives go. I could also have RAID/0 config but again I would have to carry around an external caddy which again weighs quite a lot but thanks anyway.
@chingu27091 You made a spelling mistake. You wrote; "HDDs are way cheaper than SSDs. SSDs may be lighter and faster but HDDs are generally just more *convenient."
Auto Correcting Result; "HDDs are way cheaper than SSDs. SSDs may be lighter and faster but HDDs are generally just more *for the jobless."
@RedoneTech2 I understand completely why he's using two identical laptops. But what does he do with them after? You're probably right....maybe he gave one to a relative.
Boot test is not good. I had 7200rpm laptop hard drive, was taking 2minutes if not more to boot fully, which means launch all the laptop constructor apps that YOU NEED, this is for all laptops... The SSD takes about 30sec. Simply 4x times faster!
Booting windows off regular HD is faster that SSD?! (to login screen) Those windows are corrupted... Now go and do same tests with linux... veeery curious!
@thePavuk Yes that may be it... I wonder how much would optimizations on file-system level benefit on SSD. I heard that log based FS are far better for SSDs than current EXT4 on linux (or even NTFS)
I got my Torqx2 and read performance on SATA2 (3Gbps) is around 270MB...
@SuperCommentingGuy Umm... well you should, it's not supposed to be like that. Try backing up your stuff and reinstalling Windows. Also, Ubuntu's good at being a quick booter.
@SuperCommentingGuy u should reinstall windows, had that problem too I could open up an application like 15 min after pressing the power button, it now boots in 1 minute
with an SSD you cannot just plop it in the pc and go. you must setup some bios options and enable certain functions within the OS (usually windows). I forget what it is exactly but I read about it that SSDs require more elbow grease to get setup correctly than a standard harddrive. otherwise the performance is the same as HDD
I've never heard of your SSD manufacturer; if you put cheap stuff in (not to mention it’s an emerging technology you will be hosed in the end. Trust me, if you get a good SSD (Seagate, WD, Crucial, etc.) your machine will scream compared to a HDD, so much so I've second guessed myself on the machine I just purchased & may return it to put SSD in and do external storage to make up the difference. Sorry but your boot up times are slower on the SSD. Everyone I know starts when power is pressed.
So do I draw the conclusion that it's not worth spending the money on the SSD? I have an i5 version of this laptop and was about to spend £200 for a 128gb RealSSD from Crucial. Not sure now?
The alternative is the 500gb Momentus hybrid from Seagate. Opinions anyone?
@cozmo15 SSD is not worth it just for the price, when they drop down then it would be a good option... done some tests like this on the video myself and not a HUGE difference like the one you may expect considering the difference in pricing, also that post about "Laptop bottlenecking SSD" is just a kid, and as you may know, kids believe whatever they read on Facebook or their friends tell them...
@cozmo15 I hear the hybrid drives have a lot of kinks. Just something to look into. As long as the default hard drive on whatever laptop you're looking at is 7,200 rpm and not 5,400, you'll probably never notice a difference.
Great benchmark, I own acer aspire 5740g-434g50mn (core i5 version) and I OWN THAT SSD!!! I got it here, in Greece for *ONLY* 112€ !!! Great , fantastic , superb !!

@SuperCommentingGuy Try this ,maybe it will help:
start->run: msconfig (startup tab) Taking care of 'trash apps' that bother you on start-up and slow down the boot process

I once installed an SSD drive on my PS3 and the loadings and game installations are only millisecond faster. Not worth it to be honest.

maybe your PC is not good at all (winzoz?), because on my test (macbook vs macbook pro) the difference is substantial
