@Martinntoxx Hovertech tried to invent the hoverboard from 1991 to 2008. At the end they gave up, because all the theories they tested did not produce satisfying result. The only principle that kinda worked was the lifter, but even that wasn't even able to lift its own generator, let alone any additional load. In 2008 they declared that, as far as they are concerned, the only practical way to make a hoverboard is to use fans (=to make a hovercraft that can be used like a skateboard).

I love Back to the Future trilogy very much. This film is probably my most favorite cause I always loved films about future with all these flying cars, skateboards, superhigh technology, gadgets etc. Plus Back to the Future 2 has the most confusing and intriguing storyline. Michael J.Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson were impressive. The 80's and early 90's were the best. Even low budget films of that era were much better than our modern so-called "blockbusters"!!!

Supposedly there are a couple of "working" hoverboard designs that ionically charge a pocket of air beneath them and repel off it, but it takes such a ridiculous amount of power that it's pretty much impossible to make them portable. Also, they don't look like boards. :(
