You people need to get the facts straight before commenting about how somebody died. Del Shannon committed suicide. Rob Grill died from a head injury after suffering a stroke.
I had the distinct pleasure to meet Rob Grill right around this time. So, it was cool to be able to see this and see him as I remembered meeting him. I was in radio at the time and emceed a concert he was giving when he was trying to promote his new re-release of Temptation Eyes. Must have been right around 1981 or 1982. He was a really nice guy and I was so sad to hear of his passing a few weeks ago.
Del died some time ago from a self inflected gunshot . Rob died in July from a fall. It really doesn't matter how they passed away as much as the fact that two great artists are no longer in this world. They both left us with great music to remember them by. Godspeed Rob.
And now, Rob has joined Christian in heaven. So very sad. Rob Grill had that special voice...one of a kind. Such a sweet man he was. Love you Rob...I'll miss you forever.
@clearlyme2u Joan London sucked Rob Grills big dick before and after this interview according to her autobigraphy.Joan said that she always wondered why Rob Grills penis tasted like Del Shannons butthole?
Thanks for sharing this video- great interview! Yes, the interview took place in 1982. Because that's when Rob had a new version of the Grass Roots. The group released the album "Powers Of The Night" in 1982- and "Let's Live For Today" was released in 1967 (which was 15 years before this interview). Ron
Rob Grill looked really good at that time. Even he was looking good with the long hair and the mustaches back in the 70ies. amazing. good lookin lad...
The irony is that the Grass Roots recorded the hit "The Runaway" in 1973, nothing to do with Del Shannon's "Runaway." Funny they did not mention that fact.
To me Del, looked rather thin in this interview, In his concert in 1982, he looked really great. He just looks a little old in this interview. Maybe it's the lighting or something. I actually think he looked better in around 1985 0r 86. Something about his eyes looks old here. I always thought he was so handsome. In his 1986 appearance on Letterman he looked really good.
A week before he killed himself he called a friend of mine who is an agent saying things were happening for him, he had a new album coming out and he wanted to go out on tour. Seven days later he put a gun to his head! Why why why Del?

This stupid Bitch knows NOTHING about Del Or Rob.Tipical stupid airhead coporate Idiot. She was Not even around when Del wrote Searchen or Runaway. She reads from a telepromter.USELESS WOMEN in the Media.
Suffering from depression, Shannon committed suicide on February 8, 1990, with a .22 caliber rifle. If this video was made in 1986, he died 4 years later. -- Really sad.
I agree. Must have been 82. Remember he tells about his son. He was 12 years then and they were showing pictures were Rob had him on a show as a little baby. According to his hairstyle there i suppose it was late 70 or early 71. Plus Let's Live For Today was 67. So yeah, must be 82. Plus I guess his appeareance there had something to do with their latest album "Powers of the Night" which was released in 82.
l met del and talked to him many times when he played the madison wisconsin clubs in the 70's .he would always come over to talk with us at our table between sets .his death was very tragic . long live del shannon memory and great songs.
This is fantastic! As much as I love seeing them perform, this lets us get to know a little about these guys and lets us see their personalities. Del Shannon was a favorite to listen to, but the Grass Roots and Rob Grill are still my favorites and always will be. Does anyone out there have any clips from those dozens of times the Grass Roots played on American Bandstand?
Did john london have plastic surgery? wasnt david hartmann the guy who goes beserk on the set and knocks over lamps if someone says there is a spot on your tie?
His name is Christian. Never found any info on him. I remember when he was born, I was so jealous of his wife (They divorced, but he remarried, I missed my chance again. lol)
So when did he get married to his first wife? Do u remember? He must have been very young. so during their heydays he was already married? How boring for all the female fans :p. It is so sad that one who was not followin his stories during that time ( I wasnt even born yet) cant get any information on him nowadays. I think there is only that book by Marty Angelo which contains few stories on his time with the roots. but apart frm that young fans like me are left in the dark.
I'm gonna guess around '82, only because Rob's holding together the Grass Roots together for 14 years must've meant this interview took place in the early 80s.
Then Del said something about Drop Down and Get Me. I have that album on my iTunes, and it's dated as 1982. So circa 1982 is my assumption. But don't quote me. :]
I miss Rob Grill.

The Grass Roots song was "The RUNWAY, refering to the place where an airplane lands, not 'runaway". FYI

@fumetti
The Grass Roots song was called "The RUNWAY",,not runaway...It refered to an airport runway.

1982 is a pretty good guess, since Rob joined the Grass Roots by about 1968 to round up the last and most famous Grass Roots line-up....
