I met this horse that was going to be taken away to the Slaughter house. She was skin and bone. but she could have been a gorgeous little Black filly. She was in pain you could see. Al she wanted to to was lie down and lay her head on your lap and want attention. When you pat her you could feel the bones and all the rough hair from not being groomed in over 4 years. She was sitting in a muddy paddock all this time. It's so sad to see something so beautiful go to waste
umm well i think you have a really good point. but the beginning where the owner abuses it because it went lame is not a very usual reason. you might want to think of a different reason like, the owner ran out of money, or the owner decided she/he didnt have time for the horse and didnt want it anymore.
people who do this to poor horses arnt really horsemen's or horse womens. My horse was lame for 2 years because a student was irresponsible with him he pulled his leg and neck muscles i stayed with him still doing soft training untill he got better. when i finally fully bought him his owner said he isnt a good dressage horse, he'd never canter. and look at us now. we won 14 first place ribbions 2 champions 2 reserves. throphies for most improved. every day i love him more, and its been 6 years
i have a lame horse he is 20 years old he was niglected to and i rescued him he has put on a good 50 lbs since i got him and he needs a good 30 more i still ride him and he does love it i jus cant ride him to long
We had a beautiful horse at our barn named Zodiack. He got very very badly lame he was lame for about 10 months. And I was just starting to ride him before he got lame. We had the vet out. But we had to sell him. He couldn't jump :( When my trainer told me I was heart broken. She said she had gone to a great home with a little girl that loved him. Turned out she was a snotty rich girl and ended up killing Zodiack because he reared one time!!! My Zodiack baby I love you. I wish we never sold u!

I found out about a riding skool company that went 2 shows and such, well the ponies hooves were in such a bad condition it made me want 2 cry. contacted the RSPCA and they never returned my call. but i keep trying to get in contact with the owners and possibly get the ponies taken off them! I am so adopting one if I am successful!
it is not just the cost of euthnasia it is cost of disposal, one guy put a cow down and didn't bury it enough on his property and it got dug up and animals ate it and died and he was charged fines for the death of protected species. you have to bury them deep. or have a slaughter house render them for you what for burning? but of course the slaughter houses have been shut down. so much for that. I rather give my horse away then starve it, wait, I did do that I gave my horse away to a nice lady.

People dont seem to understand the bond between a horse and rider. If they were really a 'team', and the horse got hurt, the rider would be doing everything he/she can to make him better. When one of our horses (NO matter what barn i was in or who owned it) we always faught to make our horses better. just because some people only care about money and winning, which is less than you think, dont mean everyone is like that. try spending time in an actual horse community and see for yourself
I'm glad I moved my horse. Little did I know that he wasn't getting turned out and wasn't getting fed and he was being drugged by the owner of the stable I was at, but now we're at a stable where I see them feeding him, I see him eat his flakes of green hay and he's out for 5 or so hours in a green pasture.

Excellent video. Some people don't realize that neglect is abuse. Horses just like people need their basic needs met whether they are competing or not. Ridden or not. They need quality feed, hoof care, teeth floated, shelter, grooming, regular vet checks to assure the horse is healthy, routine vaccinations, monthly worming, and exercise would be nice too. If the horse is too lame and will never recover or it would be cost prohibitive to treat then euthansia is much kinder than neglecting.
I get really pisst of when a horse gets lame and because of that gets neglected!! Because the lameness is often the riders fault! I have got lame horses because of accidents in the riding but I take it to the veterinarian and does everything it takes to get it well even if it takes month or years! I have heard about a horse that became lame because of the rider and the rider put it down because she didn´t wanted to wait... And the horse would have been completely healthy after a year of rest...

sadly this is getting more and more common, the reason? the prices for feed are higher and slaughter houses are being shut down i'd rather see a horse slaughtered than slowly starve to death.

I do not agree with this video as it shows only a single case but tries to represent thousands. Stop horse abuse. Good intentions, yeah, but the author seems to show a lack of understanding for the issue as a whole, and that is just as bad.
@anime2diva As much as I would like to agree with you people really need to accept that slaughter is a necessary evil in some cases. Like midnigt2 said I'd rather see a horse put out of its misery than be starved to death because someone abandoned it or couldn't afford feed and let it starve or it got injured and wouldn't sell. There are just to many horses out there. Also putting a horse down is expensive and people would rather the horse starve and die then pay to put it down.
actually it does happen, quite a lot, especially with race horses. There are many who make hundreds of thousands of dollars on the circuit and then fail miserably as breeding horses, so they are sold and end up being slaughtered. Regardless of the amount of money pout into a horse, or what it is worth, if it becomes a financial burden, it could be sold for slaughter.
and not just $10,000 horses... horses worth upwards of $100,000. The attitude is if they can't earn their keep anymore, it's better to get what small amount of money you can for them than keep spending it to care for them... terrible as that may be

If I'm sick and miss a ride, my horse will canter up to me the next time he sees me and 'give me kisses' for a few minutes. My horse knows me to be his mom, and he is like my child. The most important thing to a horse is NOT their master. It is a stomach full of food and a warm place to sleep. Of course they are not dumb animals, and they are useful. actually horses are quite intelligent, and many do bond with their owners. those who have a strong bond ( and it is a PARTNERSHIP, not a master/slave relationship) with their person will often do things that other horses would not. My brother's friend raised a horse from a foal, and she would do anything for him. he walked her up the stairs onto our back deck on day.

I'm 61 and have been around horses all my life, and the thing I hate the most is horse races, and the people involved. The horses are far too young and forced to run, and get injured, and destroyed. He was a palimino gelding named Cowboy. When two new horses came to our barn ones name was Cowboy and there was a pally (both geldings) and she hated Cowboy because of his name. (She also hates arabians and ponies because I sometimes call her "my arabian pony" and she thinks they stole her identy.)

Ok now there's a line here, some people cannot possibly care for a lame horse, and some of them make their living off horses, they might not be able to afford a lam horse in their barn. Also it's a lot of work for a lame for I'd rather the horse be sold or given to a good home than not taken care of at home. To starve the horse is wrong but just because someone can't keep or left the horse in the pasture to compete on another horse...isn't abuse. It's just lazy and wrong.

I lease a horse Called Cando, and he got a bad back and couldn't be ridden for a month, so I came out whenever I could and groomed him and gave him treats and love, and even though they let me ride a different horse, I only wanted him to be better. And when he was, he was very happy to get go on rides again. Sometimes if people stick it out, it's just so much more rewarding. Beautiful Video

My friend's mothers horse is lazy, but a good horse the people who owned her before were going to take her to the slaughter house and her mother went right to their door and said ''Im taking your horse'' and they said "Okay, take the lazy peace of * we dont care." So she took her.Really I dont see how anyone could do that! just because theyre lazy doesnt mean that you cant break them of that! she's not neglected, she's looked after fine but i dont ride her anymore..

I get really pisst of when a horse gets lame and because of that gets neglected!! Because the lameness is often the riders fault! I have got lame horses because of accidents in the riding but I take it to the veterinarian and does everything it takes to get it well even if it takes month or years! I have heard about a horse that became lame because of the rider and the rider put it down because she didn´t wanted to wait... And the horse would have been completely healthy after a year of rest...

sadly this is getting more and more common, the reason? the prices for feed are higher and slaughter houses are being shut down i'd rather see a horse slaughtered than slowly starve to death.

There are well around 170,000 horses who are abandoned every year in the United States. The reasons this number is so high (and getting higher) are multiple. Everything from the closing down of slaughter houses to the inability to pay for their feed or board.
I do not agree with this video as it shows only a single case but tries to represent thousands. Stop horse abuse. Good intentions, yeah, but the author seems to show a lack of understanding for the issue as a whole, and that is just as bad.

@anime2diva As much as I would like to agree with you people really need to accept that slaughter is a necessary evil in some cases. Like midnigt2 said I'd rather see a horse put out of its misery than be starved to death because someone abandoned it or couldn't afford feed and let it starve or it got injured and wouldn't sell. There are just to many horses out there. Also putting a horse down is expensive and people would rather the horse starve and die then pay to put it down.

actually it does happen, quite a lot, especially with race horses. There are many who make hundreds of thousands of dollars on the circuit and then fail miserably as breeding horses, so they are sold and end up being slaughtered. Regardless of the amount of money pout into a horse, or what it is worth, if it becomes a financial burden, it could be sold for slaughter.

and not just $10,000 horses... horses worth upwards of $100,000. The attitude is if they can't earn their keep anymore, it's better to get what small amount of money you can for them than keep spending it to care for them... terrible as that may be

And those people see themselves as good people. Cause they still pay for the horse. They don't get attention, no love, nothing special. Yes most of them get enough food, a shelter. They don't starve. But they aren't happy as well. I see it every day at a friend on mine. She is taking good care of her 2 horses, but the other people at that place... So they come to see their horses, once a month, when they have to pay their rent.

@yoniew Horses ARE that intelligent. Based off of your spelling and grammar, more intelligent than you. If I'm sick and miss a ride, my horse will canter up to me the next time he sees me and 'give me kisses' for a few minutes. My horse knows me to be his mom, and he is like my child. I know that I'm not the only one who experiences this.

You get ha horse, grow up, sell it and they are forgetting about you tooo. @yoniew yoniew is correct. People grow to love their horse so much that they imagine all types of wild fantasies. The truth is that horses have very little measurable intelligence. The most important thing to a horse is NOT their master. It is a stomach full of food and a warm place to sleep. Of course they are not dumb animals, and they are useful. Please though, keep Hollywood out of it. It is just a horse.

actually horses are quite intelligent, and many do bond with their owners. those who have a strong bond ( and it is a PARTNERSHIP, not a master/slave relationship) with their person will often do things that other horses would not. My brother's friend raised a horse from a foal, and she would do anything for him. he walked her up the stairs onto our back deck on day.

I'm 61 and have been around horses all my life, and the thing I hate the most is horse races, and the people involved. The horses are far too young and forced to run, and get injured, and destroyed. If you forced young children to run around a track carrying a weight on their back while being beat with whips, people would go to jail.

Yes maybe not every horse feels this but this video encourages people to NOT abuse horses.
Ofcourse horses don't depend that much on humans but when one gets to know a human and begins to grow a friendship,love and trust.

@crazyformisty123 Oh gosh, I am so glad my horse is not the only one! When I forst got her I would make coments about another horse I rode and fell in love with at camp. He was a palimino gelding named Cowboy. When two new horses came to our barn ones name was Cowboy and there was a pally (both geldings) and she hated Cowboy because of his name. (She also hates arabians and ponies because I sometimes call her "my arabian pony" and she thinks they stole her identy.)

Ok now there's a line here, some people cannot possibly care for a lame horse, and some of them make their living off horses, they might not be able to afford a lam horse in their barn. Also it's a lot of work for a lame for I'd rather the horse be sold or given to a good home than not taken care of at home. To starve the horse is wrong but just because someone can't keep or left the horse in the pasture to compete on another horse...isn't abuse. It's just lazy and wrong.

I lease a horse Called Cando, and he got a bad back and couldn't be ridden for a month, so I came out whenever I could and groomed him and gave him treats and love, and even though they let me ride a different horse, I only wanted him to be better. And when he was, he was very happy to get go on rides again. Sometimes if people stick it out, it's just so much more rewarding. Beautiful Video

My friend's mothers horse is lazy, but a good horse the people who owned her before were going to take her to the slaughter house and her mother went right to their door and said ''Im taking your horse'' and they said "Okay, take the lazy peace of * we dont care." So she took her.Really I dont see how anyone could do that! just because theyre lazy doesnt mean that you cant break them of that! Now she is getting bred and so are the other two girls and her mom said that I could have one for free.

my shetland della was a bad neglet case, she was just seen as a boord mare a way to make money, but the drought came they couldnt aford to feed her and wouldnt give her up, so she hung on to feed her foal wasteing away skin and bone,
she was mis-handled scread of peaple, never ruged or feet trimed,
tody shes being re-educated, and turned into a gorjuz riding pony with a huge heart, who will try her hardest at anything i put infront of her, i dont belive shes the pony who arrived 10 months ago
