this game was a bit of a hassle,it took half of my ammo killing the spiderbot, and half my health fighting werner, but getting to kileak/kim is hard since the leels get harder
I wonder what it would look like if they remade this game. Would it be absolutely sick or as scary??? I think it would be awesome but they would need someone who really cared about preserving the classic feel of the game and try to capture a lot of the old ideas and structural aspects of the game while adding more to it at the same time. I don't think this game was mediocre really at all. I do agree it was a bit simple but it just needs a little work and BAM!!!!! EPIC!!!!!!
This game was and still is garbage. This game was made only to help cram the ps1's library with flashy 3d visuals. There were many better fps games on the ps1 than this crap.
The story was a little interesting but the game was poorly designed. And no "Oh only a true old-school gamer could appreciate this" crap please, I LOVE doom, I enjoy Ultima, I like old games, but I never cared much for this game in particular. Thank you very much for posting these videos, I thought most of the video animations I did see were nice so it's good to see this without playing through my copy of the game (I own it as a lark of sorts.)
"Coda, can't you see the truth? Your lifeform began long after the comet that destroyed my civilization. I am Kileak. I was the beginning. And I am the end."
isn´t that the sound in the end? I never really understood the story really. What was doctor Kim up to and the ending, did kim invent a new lifeform or?...really Im lost :(
From what I could gather, Kileak was the first lifeform on the planet, a true progenitor of all life. Kim found his DNA in the excavation pit and then used it to create the monsters in the game and was planning on using an ICBM to spread the DNA all over the planet. He goes mad and it's up to the IPKF's Polar Tactical Operations White Lightning team to stop him after they receive Fukuzawa's distress signal. At least, I THINK that's what's happening here.
haha, I just had to run through the game again just to see if I could find out something new, I never realised that carlos was actually saved after 5:th level boss. But I wonder, its not like Kim was infected with kileak and went mad? I mean, he do transform pretty badly. and last, the spaceship thing. is it good or bad? and who´s spaceship was that? it blasts a ray on a planet (which one?) and suddenly life appears so it cannot be earth...
Modern video games suck ass. Even the new Final Fantasies. I'm convinced PS1 was the last bastion of good gaming. Now, gamers care more about 'graphic processors', 'megaherz', 'blu-ray' and all this other inane bullshit than they do good video game storylines or replay value. Why should they care about replay value with Gamestops making games disposable when they've aged only three months? They lower the value down to $1.00 after two years so you can't even trade them in!
Success is the worst thing that could have ever happened to the video game industry. I hate the new generation of gaming. There's no PASSION any more!
@Majinblaze you do realise tehre was a sega vs nintendo console war, then a sony vs sega vs nintendo console war? the only thing different now is teh prevelance of the internet means you have to deal with people who have different opinions than you.
@BillyCauseyjr ...LOL.. you think me a NOOB!? I am WELL aware of the industry's past, and in no way am I denying or belittling it. I'm merely pointing out exactly what others here are- it's FAR too focused on "THE NEW TECH, ZOMFG!" and NOT focussed ENOUGH on "is this fun, different, and/or refreshing?" The "industry" part needs to just die, and the "game" part needs to live again. By this I mean that they need to flaunt their prowess less, and start producing more GAMES and less genericrap...
@Majinblaze ... you really need to get out more... there are tons of releases that go under the radar of most media outlets that are absolutly amazing. (the upcoming Sengoku basara is one, so simple yet so fun.)
lol, you STILL misunderstand? I don't RELY on the industry's media outlets. And as far as "getting out more" I think being a soldier and a college student simultaneously is enough. XD
"Now, gamers care more about 'graphic processors', 'megaherz', 'blu-ray' "
you are so fuc... wait for it, king RIGHT dude, only old school console like Genesis and PS1 spawned true classic, like sonic, crash bandicoot, resident evil, and so many mroe I surely have forgotten
@sickfixxreturns you must only pay attention to the releases magazines praise.... go play mass effect, dragon age, fallout 3, or oblivion (oblivion never ends.... infinate replay value)
@BillyCauseyjr Those aren't real RPG's. Those are exactly the kind of games I'm talking about. No personality or heart or soul. The storylines to those are anorexic. And rpg's are supposed to be about STORY, period.
@sickfixxreturns ... they aren't real RPGs.... you people blame genres for keeping creativity out of modern games but when i throw up an example of one that tried you blast for not fitting into a genre... I wash my hands of you poor contradictory souls.
@sickfixxreturns Dressing up a shooter doesn't make it an rpg. The games you mentioned are so nonlinear that they lack any personality at all. Endless exploration ruins an rpg. What's the point if there's no enemy to focus on, or a goal to chase? I could care less about creativity with battle systems and gameplay (I even hated the junction system in FF8). I just want an rpg with a damn good epic story. This is why I hate the games you mentioned so much, because the turnbased traditional
@sickfixxreturns So I'm not alone in that thinking, though its probably PS2 were gamin should have stopped. Considering that Sprite based animation has become prohibitive if not restricted.
@sickfixxreturns Another generic "older is better" argument. Its complete bullshit. Left 4 Dead 2 has a crap story line, but I keep playing it all day because its fun to play online. Same with Bad Company 2. A game doesn't just have to be all about a story line to be fun now. But granted, most RPGs now do suck. I <3 my FF6
As for modern stories sucking, two trump cards off the top of my head: Bioshock 1 and 2 and Uncharted. Amazing story lines. Though... System Shock 2 wins hands down.
@sickfixxreturns Nah, back in PSX days it was all about how many "bits" your console had, cd disk drives versus cartridges, load times, and yes people still cared about graphics. With the exception of RPGs and survival horror games, the average video game had little to no story -- today, almost every game tries to have a decent narrative. As far as replay value goes, most modern games have online multiplayer that you can play for years and years beyond the release date, sometimes decades.
This was the 1st game I owned for p.s..lol

FINALLY! someone making sense! lol
My buddy and i say that the industry just needs to die. Not the business, mind you, just the whole "console wars" and "fanboyism" etc, etc..
It needs to go back to being people making fun little projects, and stop being companies trying to impress and/or outdo eachother...
We want GAMES..with powerups and cheat codes, not movies with QTEs and a 90/10 cinematic/gameplay ratio!

@sickfixxreturns It might not have the same feel, or the same style, but this generation isn't into hell as much as you think.
Blazblue, Lost Planet 2, Monster Hunter, STILL the MGS series, there's a lot of new games such as Assassin's Creed that's also great...
Ok, last 2 may be mainstream, but for this gen you have to dig deeper into the lesser mainstream for the better stuff it seems.
I still love my PS1, and even Mega Drive, though.
