That N logo was so ugly, like a gum wrapper. All it did was draw attention to how bad NBC's graphics were at the time. No wonder nobody watched at the time
I doubt less people were watching NBC because of a logo. Their track record with shows then was seriously waining..but perhaps settling on that style of "N" during that period was testament to how much the executives cared about NBC's image (squat).
The networks these days are trying to compete with cable, but they're doing it the wrong way. They should lose the reality and talent shows, and concentrate on entertaining us again. There aren't even cartoons on in the mornings anymore. Remember waking up at 5:45am and watching a test pattern for 15 minutes until Bullwinkle and Rocky came on? Now we have juicer and dicer/slicer infomercials.
It was... The Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman were on ABC. Only Bionic Woman was moved to NBC. The show was bought by NBC so it could boost ratings.
What do ya mean, NBC was the bomb back then since NBC was the network that had brought us CHiPs, THE ROCKFORD FILES, HR PUF'N'STUFF, DIFFERENT STROKES, etc.
Yes, it looks to be a NASCAR Sportsman's race, definately not Grand National (2day's 'Cup'). That would be really cool to see, especially if there are some drivers in it before they went 'big time'.
The first promo sounds like it was V/O'd by Fred Collins; the second and fourth, Howard Reig; the third ("SportsWorld"), Les Marshak; and the last, by Bill Wendell. I.I.N.M., only Marshak wasn't an NBC staffer - unless he was there briefly in the late 1970's.

With shows like this, it's no wonder NBC was in 3rd place, Dan Haggerty Goest to the Circus, hehehehehehe

@peteo100 He's not even at the circus; he's just standing in front of a greenscreen.

The rule for TV shows in the 70's was that EVERY variety show HAD to have a cameo by CHARO!
It was THE RULE!

@biggiejeffrey Oh, I'm afraid you're right! That was the only time you ever saw her on TV.

Dear Lord... if these were the best clips the promo dept. could find in the network's shows, no wonder why NBC was way behind.

I remember NBC having much more and better promos than this, especially promos for CHiPS and THE ROCKFORD FILES plus many more.

Yep, it's Collins in the first one, 'wm'- and Reig, Marshak, and Wendell...all correct!

I'm amazed this tape still works 30 years later.
Wish someone still had some of that old NBC NASCAR footage from way back when on SportsWorld. Talk about rare.

this is when the networks had common sense on how to promote the shows- DURING THE COMMERCIAL BREAKS, NOT DURING THE SHOW LIKE IT'S DONE TODAY!!!

Yes. Paul Page usually did play-by-play for tape-delayed NASCAR races in the late 70's and early 80's for NBC.
