Simple - you add a category called "% of students employed as a result of their education here within a year". Won't happen though, because the rankings magazines want to SELL paper. Universities don't mind that either, because convincing parents that a pretty cafeteria is more important than employment is very profitable indeed.
I agree that the rankings are off. I am attending a Tier One national university, and I was accepted by many other top universities, but these rankings are based off of fame and prestige, not about the actual quality of the school. I hope that one day this attitude of college elitism will come to an end.
College ranking is 100% BS, imo. Parents never realise how discouraging it is to constantly pressure their kids to get into "the school", as if it's the only one. It's all about what environment is the best for the student - after all, they're the ones who are actually going to be attending, right?
@BaconStein I agree. I was pressured to get into a university that I did not get accepted to, but I was accepted to universities which ranked higher than that school. I think that we as a country should just be glad that kids are going to colllege as opposed to worrying about what people from society think about that college.
@schoedan Well, rankings do matter when it comes to the job field (supposedly - that or of you know someone who can get you a position). I was pretty miffed when I typed up that comment for obvious reasons. :P I still agree that it's kind of BS and society shouldn't judge, but it does play some roll. I think kids shouldn't be overpressured about it though. The transition from highschool to college can be hectic enough as it is, no matter where you go.
College rankings are irrelevant.
