Second quencking your metal will cause it to case harden making the weld and surrounding base metal very brittle. @70GTODAN i never learnd to weld at school, i tried it myself and always worked out fine.
I tend to use a fairly high voltage to really melt the 2 objects together, and when having 2 flat pieces to weld i sand a little V shape to put my weld into so the weld is flat so u dont have to grind off the excess metal. And water bucket? lol the metal cracks when u do that.
I am glad I found this video! Before, my welded components were always hot and hard to get apart if I needed to move them. Two thumbs up! To think I wasted all that time and practice on apprenticeships and all that money on high dollar equipment when for less than 300 bucks and four minutes on youtube, I coulda learned everything I needed!

Wow cold welds with almost no penetration, quenching in cold water which will make the already weak weld brittle and using a stick mask instead of a AD hood.
Sean, ditch the mask, crank up the voltage and use water for drinking
i'm not a pro welder of any kind, but this is definitely NOT a good tut on how to weld. its a good video of how a welder works, but now how it should be used. As far as quenching in water after the weld, you shouldn't do that because it weakens the weld. I have however heard of quenching in used motor oil but only if you're done working on the part.
1- Get a real welder.. 2- Learn how to weld.. 3- The shitty helmet HAS TO GO! (Get a FULL FACE Auto-darkening one).. 4-DO-NOT!! repeat- DO-NOT quench in water after weld is complete(This will fuck it up)....
I just noticed the lack of shielding gas... and that's not flux core..god damn it. also quenching after welding will cause martensite which means the heat affected zone and the weld are gonna be really brittle. This guy is a SPOTTY WELDER
The scary thing is that anyone can get a welder like his at home depot and weld a trailer or hitch like this guy (or worse) and then drive on the highway with it.
And never use water to cool off what you just welded. That makes for a brittle weld on top of this already crappy weld. The good thing about this weld is that you wouldnt make it out of your driveway with a trailer behind you still LOL. Also I dont think weaving is necessary on a piece like that especially with the pieces flat and butted together that way. With the proper settings and speed you could make a nice, deep penetrating straight weld with no weaving needed.
I really hope you arent serious about this video and if you arent then you need to make it a little more obvious that it is a joke. This advice absolutely should NOT be taken religiously.

(Or just read the chart that comes with the welder that tells you what wire speed and amperage to set it on) You can always fill in a hole if you make one...

now you always want to make sure you leave just a little bit of a stick out so your sure to stick your contact tip to the base metal and screw up the tip and create a bird's nest near the drive rolls...make sure the voltage is down real low so that you don't get any penetration...now you put the welder near the metal, say a little prayer, pull the trigger, and hope for the best...after you've put down what looks like bird crap be sure to stick it in water to make sure your crappy weld is brittle

2. "You wouldn't think that it would be hot..." Of course not, put a rubber clamp on plywood. Be sure to set the voltage to 2.
3. Roll up your sleeves and unbutton your shirt so you don't burn your flannel. Something about the sun?

I LOVE THIS VIDEO, I WAS UNHAPPY BEFORE BECAUSE I FELT I WAS LEARNING VERY SLOWLY AND HAD A LONG WAY TO GO BUT NOW I AM QUITE PLEASED WITH MYSELF AND MY UGLY BUT UNBREAKABLE WELDS. THIS VIDEO MADE ME SEE THAT I AM AT LEAST HALFWAY TO BEING A GREAT WELDER. THANKS SEAN.

Just like me, this guy tought you could just buy a mig welder and start making strong and pretty welds. That is a big misconception, it takes tons of practice and knowledge.

now you always want to make sure you leave just a little bit of a stick out so your sure to stick your contact tip to the base metal and screw up the tip and create a bird's nest near the drive rolls...make sure the voltage is down real low so that you don't get any penetration...now you put the welder near the metal, say a little prayer, pull the trigger, and hope for the best...after you've put down what looks like bird crap be sure to stick it in water to make sure your crappy weld is brittle
