I was happy to find this rare performance by Don and Phil. But, please ALSO listen to the record. Someone had commented that Don was a perfectionist and he certainly was as the original recording was 32 takes. Six of Nashville's greatest guitarists including Chet Atkins, Hal Bradley, Jerry Bradley, et al, were there. Buddy Harman was on drums. "Walk Right Back" was also done on this session. I strongly suggest listening to both original recordings and study the guitar arrangements.
If anyone missed listening to this song of the Everly Brothers on the second night, this performance in youtube is as good as the first night, if not better. So it is the consolation.
Who cares what night or if they even sang it at all. Whether they burp, belch or hiccup anything that comes out of the Everly Brother's mouths is a gift and if you can't enjoy or appreciate it you deserve to be deaf!
I love this song... I went through two 45's & had to buy a third.. which is still in pretty good condition after all these years!
So, many people want to classify them as country... (nothing against country) but these guys started out as "rockers" and they can "rock" with the best of them, if not better and with a sound that no one can duplicate! Many have tried.. some have come close.. there have been a "few" great covers of their songs, but they OWN that sound... whether rock, pop or country!
@norskygirl You should hear them now> I saw a video from last year and Don (at 75) is still singing as well as ever. . OMG, God really loved this world to create Phil and Don especially Don. Good to me to be a friend of theirs.
I was happy to send you this, I love it when young people discover how wonderful the Everlys are, I first heard them in the 1950s and I've never stopped listening since then.
I hope you will still be listening in the year 2059. :-)
I thought it looked like one of the band members had a different design in his jacket on some of these, suggesting that there were two different recordings.
There were two reunion concerts, on 22nd and 23rd of September 1983, and I think that parts of both were used in the DVD, I was at the second concert and I well remember a woman sitting near me complaining that they didn't sing her favorite song (Temptation) her friend had told her that they did sing it the night before.
Phil gives Don a "look" at 2:19 when Don's voice creaks a little. I like this one and it, too, isn't on my Reunion dvd. Lovia, Megasuggs for putting this one on here too.
These reunion concert songs have been left out of the DVD, that is why I have upoaded them, they are from a recording that I made of the concert, when it was first shown on TV in 1983.
I don't think they were very happy with Temptation as they didn't sing it on the second night and the version on the CD has been heavily edited.
Sorry, they didn't, I was sitting next to a woman who was most upset because it was her favorite song, her friend went on the first night and told her that they sang it, but she was dissapointed because they didn't sing it on the second night, I think the CD version is from the rehersal, it is also highly edited with female voices added on the high parts. Like I said, I was there, so I know for certain that they didn't sing it on the second night.
I'm still trying to figure out how to transfer "Rock and Roll Odyssey" to a DVD to save it, since old tapes will fade and self destruct eventually. It's copy protected unfortunately.
Watching them sing "Temptation" makes me appreciate how ambition this concert was. Also, Phil in singing harmony had to to make any change to a song work. They are good.
It was shown by the BBC at Christmas 1983, I had just bought my first video recorder, it also includes, message to mary, maybe tomorrow and I wonder if I care as much.

Always brilliant and one of my favorites of their "new" stuff. Their work in the 80s was superior to their teen years.

One song they did not often performed LIVE. Just like ERbony Eyes. I am so happy I was there BOTH nights :>)

They also did this on the 2nd night as well. if you listen to the dvd (1st night) and then the l.p. cd. or cassette (2nd night) they are different.
